LET THE LITTLE GIRL LIMBO (Barry Mann / Cynthia Weil) Doris Day (with Jack Nitsche & His Orch.) - 1963 The party really swung that night But I didn't know a soul And them someone said let's have fun Bring out that Limbo pole They pushed right by me onto the floor And I felt so left out Till I felt someone take my hand And heard that someone shout Let the little girl Limbo Let the little girl Limbo Let the little girl Limbo Oh, you know she can go so low And as they all let me through He said you know what to do Little girl you can Limbo I believe in you First I Limbo'd high (Too high, you gotta go lower) Then I began to try (Nice try, but you gotta go lower) Then I went so low (So low, no one ever went lower) (Oh, that girl can go) Watch me now! Hey, Limbo time! Come on ev'rybody, let's Limbo Little lower now, Limbo time I go to lots of parties now And I always feel so proud 'Cause he's with me and I can see Now I'm in with the crowd And when that Limbo music begins We both smile with delight 'Cause ev'rybody begins to shout The way he did that night Let the little girl Limbo Let the little girl Limbo Let the little girl Limbo Oh, you know she can go so low And as they all let me through He said you know what to do Little girl you can Limbo I believe in you First I Limbo'd high (Too high, you gotta go lower) Then I began to try (Nice try, but we know you go lower) Then I went so low (So low, no one ever gone lower) (Oh, that girl can go) Watch me now! (No one goes that low) Lower, lower now (She puts on a show) Look out, Chubby, here I come (Oh, that girl can go) (No one goes that low) Whatever happened to..........FADE
After hearing the playback at Columbia, they decided that it was too slow. So they had staff arranger Robert Mersey redo it with Doris using the same arrangement you hear here with a faster pace. That one was the one to be released. It is great and can be found here on YT. However, Doris' "handlers" thought it was too risque for her because of her image and Columbia decided not to release it. It would have been a huge hit for her at that time. Barry Mann and his wife Cynthia Weil owned the airwaves as writers for a very long time and their recent mega hit with Eydie Gorme, also on Columbia, was proof of that. But it just wasn't to be. This arrangement you hear here is with the awesome Jack Nitzsche(sp?). He was the arranger for Phil Spector and their wall of sound back then. Doris' son, Terry Melcher, brought songs like this to Columbia from the Brill Building writers and had Patti Page and Frankie Laine and others record them giving them big hits in the 1960's. I hope you enjoy this background info. Doris Day could sing anything!!!
Very well done. Doris Day at her finest and you captured it perfectly. TY!
Watching her film clips is always fun and fascinating, but "Pillow Talk" has always been and will always be my favorite.
Just heard this for first time last week. Very like Billy Bland Let the little girl dance.

@Dayniac4324 Thank you, Toni ... it really is a fun song ... hugs ... manfread
Web says it is an unreleased 1963 song, was this from a Doris Day movie? I could see Annette Funicello singing this in one of her beach movies
it was a single, not from any of her films
It was never released as a single, even though she did this version. and one with a different orchestra, that is on Spotify
Movie at 1:58 ???
Very pretty girl!
Limbo dance is here ...
