For the two plus weeks I have owned this lens "bought it during Nikon's sale month", I am extremely pleased. It's small, light and insanely sharp with fast AF and great contrast.
The AF is just as fast as my fantastic Sigma 500mm f4 sports, the only thing is the f/6.3 aperture, which is just fine for most wildlife sports photography. If you need to shoot in early morning light or near dusk, then an f/4/f/2.8 lens is the way to go, and that will cost you an arm, leg, and a kidney.
In regards to subject isolation, an f/5.6 or f/6.3 will do the job just fine as long as you do your homework in regards to your subject and it's surroundings. It's all part of preparation, and knowing your gear, it's strengths and weaknesses.
