In this video I'm going to quickly show you how to use opacity tools in the Fusion page.

Why they don't put a slider called "Opacity"
opasitisation solved, thank you ser. Valuable content once again, thank you. I finally got the paid version then went 4 days without having time to use davinci! OMG... so appreciate your 'on demand' support! Mr Resolve owes you big time sir!
I also like to use a Brightness/Contrast node's Gain slider to do that. You just have to enable the alpha channel of the b/c so it functions as an opacity controller ✨
Great way to do it and probably the quickest way (if counting mouse clicks needed). If you want to spice things up (it will add one extra click though) and walk a bit on the wild side you could also use a regular Transform node, set the Size to 0 and then use the Blend to adjust the opacity:)
Or manipulating the Color Curves node.
Helpful video as always! Yet I prefer to adjust the level of a containing rectangle, which also enables the opacity of a single video to be managed.
You know, you are the kind of teacher that makes a student love the classes!
This was awesome, I never would have thought blend would be "opacity", thank you as always Casy
Thanks for the tutorial. It is simple and has solved my problem.
thanks casey
i love that these videos are so helpful that even just looking at the thumbnail solved one of my issues 😂
Opacitied sounds like a good word, I'll try to use it from now on. When I'm editing I'm only talking to myself anyway.
Thanks for this useful tutorial. Another reason to make the adjustment in the merge rather than in the mask, is that when adjusting the opacity of the mask, you end up with a yellow fringe around the mask, while you don't when doing it the other way.
Being a total n00b, If I'm making a background for a text I'd be inclined to just put a solid color effect (or even an image, if relevant; say, if I want a texture) behind the text, and then adjust/keyframe clip opacity for it under "Composition" - is there a particular reason why I should be going to Fusion and doing something like this to make a text with a background box...?
But the merge only works with multiple nodes plugged in. I need the effect on one node.
Try adding a containing rectangle, and adjusting its "Level" setting.
Thank you so much! Great help! : )
Could you do a tutorial on a light wrap effect for composites layers? The ones I've seen don't do a good job explaining stuff like you do. I've got a clunky version I do, but I'm sure it could be done better.
Hi Casey, can you show how to make a glowing outline photo effect on davinci, like you do for your photos in your thumbnails?
Another important note is that certain "connector" nodes like Tracker have their own opacity controls if you apply a merge node to them it will be ignored.
That was helpful, thanks!
HOLY SHIT! Thank you! I was getting so pissed trying to figure this out! It's infuriating that this setting isn't just it's own node to be dropped in whenever.
Great tutorial! Is there a way to do change the opacity of an object in a 3d plane?
Casey - First, I appreciate the personal response you sent me when I asked about this issue a few weeks back. Second, it took me a bit to figure out your answer (this video helped, by the way) because I've never set up my nodes the way you do in this video. I had been doing it the way you've shown us in your tutorials: mask into background and background into merge node. I had never even thought about putting a merge node BETWEEN my mask and background. It totally rocked my world and made me rethink my life. LOL. Thanks again!
Here is where i'm still confused - how to fade text in using fusion. i feel like far more complex things are much eaiser to do in fusion, but this one simple thing is not, for some reason.
Edit: Hopefully I just figured it out. I think I was not considering background/foreground/mask with a multi-merge. So sounds like if I bring in mulitple text items, as long as I make sure i'm choosing foreground when I connect the text node to the multimerge, I can then select that text in the multimerge, and use blend for each text node as I want.
Hey Casey! I have a problem that might not even be possible to do in DaVinci/Fusion. Basically I am wanting to have an image [PNG] be 1) duplicated, 2) Randomly rotate over the span of the sequence per clone, 3) move from top to bottom kind of like the were raining. I have been attempting this on my own but sadly nothing translates to what I am looking to accomplish. If you know how or have an idea and find a solution and think it might make a good video, that would be awesome! I do motion VFX and hate using Ae to do things -_- so I have moved over to Fusion! Excited to hear back if you end up reading this! 😁
This sounds like a particles thing.
@@CaseyFaris Thanks for the response regarding this! I came across a node in the Reactor plugin called Linear Cloner. It is basically a duplicate node with looping functions. I think I could use it for my needs but I am going to keep digging to see if what I am wanting to accomplish is possible.
Thanks for the video. This is so frustrating. So what if you are just using the merge node (like a container) for the input and out put and it doesn't seem to work for opacity since ther is only one input. I hope I just missed something and will watch your merge node 101 video.
As always, if you need to REALLY fix things in Fusion, you got to go get an advice from Casey Faris. Thanks!
Hello sir I am facing trouble while installing plugins in my resolve 18 can you make a video on how to install plugin in davinci resolve 18
Currently I am using acer aspire 5 for leaning davinci resolve
And I am not able to drag and drop the Lua file for proto V2 plugin
can you please make a tutorial on it
Thank you :D
How do you blur or change the opacity the the edges of the rectangle
Would this work if i wanted to fade a clip to black. Like a transition but mid clip? Or for strobing etc
For this I would adjust the level of a containing rectangle.
So I have to create a "merge" to be able to control opacity?
And instead of "opacity" or "transparency" its called "blend"?
And inside a "merge" node I can only control the opacity of 1 of the 2 nodes it is merging?
Why is no one complaining to Davinci to create a solution that is not absurd?
I'm seriously considering going back to Adobe and pay just not to go through this stupidly obfuscated options for simple things...
is there a way in fusion that i can make the png only visible when light is on it. currently when no light is over the image there is still a black silhouette of it which i want to not be there.
I'd probably use just a mask in this case
@@CaseyFaris its ok i just went to the background and turned the opacity down. yes it still doesn't get it to look how it would look realistic due to what the animation idea is of but its the best im gonna do.
Ive been able to learn UE5 and Blender faster than understanding da vinci's nightmarish node system.
love Fusin, you have to find hacks to do basic shit, the devs just need to add a node key opacity, come on
Nodes are not confusing, everything else in the universe is, but not nodes
I don't understand why they went to all the trouble of building out a Fusion editor and you can't just animate the opacity/blend of an image element. It's like the most basic thing. It's enough that every element needs a transform node just to resize/position it, now EVERY image element needs another node to perform opacity functions? omg just combine them all, that's all most ppl need 90% of the time. Over-engineered

Hillariousu how the most simple things imaginable are so tricky in this piece of pathetic software
