Great tuorial, Casey, thanks :) It works for me but I still enounter problems with one of my takes,: taken from wihin my car during heavy rain. The area to be tracked is the back of the truck on the neighbouring lane. When setting up tracking timespan, buttons "track to start" and "track to end" don't work as expected. Instead, the tracking stops after the wiper crosses the footage and the area marked as tracked. I guess it's the breaking of "track area consistency" but is there anything I can do to set up proper period of tracking, not dependant on working wipers on the footage?

It is possible for text to be floating there in the sky : air planes used to write in the sky, but I guess we don’t see as much of those literate planes because of the quality of their school programs

Thanks for the video. Well explained. One question I've not been able to find the answer for is how to track something out of frame. With Mocha I can extend my tracking area to something in the same plane and Mocha tracks out of frame smoothly. Fusion doesn't seem to have a way to do this. Is this possible to do or is there a workaround of some sort. Thanks if you can respond. Cheers,

I'm having a problem using planar tracker. Litterally every clip i use to track it just stops tracking after 3 frames then if i try to stop or delete the node and redo it again it crashes. 100% of the time.

im tryin to use paint and clone something out like how you have the text node but it won't work with a paint node?
hi im learning resolve for my drone company. when i add a merge in the order instructed for a text, the merge apply mode doesnt change anything. i want to use overlay but it doesnt function. when i try to re order the nodes a bit the text changes complety and leaves the tracking area all together.

Hi Casey. I'm trying to track highways signs from inside a car, and replace them with my own signs. Planar tracker works great untill the signs go offscreen. I delete the keyframes that are stattic or wrong but how I can create new keyframes? With the regular tracker you just move your object towards the final position and the keyframes are autimaticlaly generated. But I cannot "move" the planar tracker.

Help! I've carefully followed this tutorial with a mountain/sky image, text, and the same node tree but.....my text isn't visible. The only way I can get the text is to disable the transform node. I'm a bit frustrated. Any tips are appreciated!
Great video! Will this work to pin the lens flare effect? Im trying to pin it over top of the sun in a a slow motion moving clip to give the sun some really cool flares. Ive bin trying and either u cant or im doing something wrong. Ive also tried to just key frame it BUT i am NOT liking how it looks. Please help!!!
I'm doing EVERYTHING YOU SAID and I'm still not getting good tracking. Certain grams have red dots pooping up and it throws my whole thing off when I proceed.

Unrelated question ... Let's say that I have a clip in my timeline that I've had to slice and dice to get rid of oopsies. Second pass through I am working with cliplette#1 and I move dynamically and so on several times during the cliplette. At the end of the cliplette I am now zoomed in and moved and cropped, let's say. Now I come to cliplette#2. I want to copy the attributes that exist at the very end of cliplette#1 to cliplette#2, not the whole enchilada, just at the very end of cliplette#1. Right now I am doing this VERY manually, popping back and forth between the two cliplettes in the inspector and typing them into cliplette#2 after I see what they are in cliplette#1.
Is there a version of "paste attributes" that will do this in an automated way?
Hi Casey, do you know why if I have a clip, and I use the planar tracker but the tracking does not reach the end of the video, because it changes perspective and is lost, those frames that were left untracked, when I return to the tab edition says Media Offline? (Only on the untracked frames)
Ps. The only solution I have found is to duplicate the clip and cut it before where the tracking is lost
hello casey, Why is that everytime I click to create planar transform no node comes out instead a black rectangular box appears, am I missing something???

02:14 when i select planar tracker, then click and drag i only end up with 3 flat yellow nodes that cant be closed or drawn..i only get that red bended line when i click the arrows in the middle circle and its really confusing/weird to try and raw like this?? am i doing something wrong?

I am working in 360 video and want to apply the method you showed with text and a person but when I go into fusion the clip does not show the KartaVR fusion attributes it just shows the full 360 in frame. Do you know way around this so the mediaout in fusion will show what I framed with KartaVR?

Thanks for the tutorial. I have shot some footage on a green screen with a moving camera. I need to have a motion track for the background so it matches the movement in the actual footage I have filmed. I have tried to use the Camera Tracker in fusion for the main clip I filmed, so I could then take the data and pop it on the background which then would match the same movement. Is this possible, and if so how do I do it? I have tried to copy and paste the nodes from Fusion, this did not work, and I tried to copy the first clip and past attributes, that did not work either.
Thanks for this awesome video. But is it possible to do tracking on still shots if we animate those stills. Someone said on a Forum that he could not do tracking on a still but when he added several stills he could do it. For eg video + still shot + still shot + still shot because it gives you enough parallax. Is this possible? I'm not sure how he did it though.
What if a semi passed in front of the mountain tops? Planar tracker would stop tracking. Then if you try to restart it after the semi passes, Resolve will say that you can't re-track unless you have tracking in the first place. But the tracker stopped tracking so there couldn't be initial tracking. Let's say the semi blocked the whole screen for a few frames just to make it fun (and so offsetting isn't an option.)
My issues come when I shoot with a prime lens and the background is out of focus. I end up without much for the planer tracker to latch onto and it goes nuts.

Starting at frame :52 you add your text (got it) then you type in your text then at :53 a Mearge3 box shows up. well, that is not showing up at all for me. I don't see any text. do I have something hidden? Thank you!
Not sure what happened it's working. the Merge1 showed up for now. this was my 8th new project tying to get it right.
I must have re-watched it over ten times to try and see where the Merge thing gets added. It suddenly just magically appears.

Hi Casey. Thanks for the video! I'm looking to use the planar track to track a mask. I've tried the node structure that you show in this video but it doesn't seem to get the results. In short, I've got a clip where the camera is swimming through the port of a sunken ship and I want the text to appear on the inside of the ship and float along with one of the features of the ship on the inside. I'm trying to mask out the text according to the size of the port but the planar tracker doesn't seem to be changing the mask at all when I've attached it. Any tips on how I would go about doing this? Any help would be fantastic!
It's hard to diagnose without seeing the video or the node tree. I'm thinking you're wanting your text to match the move of an object inside the ship but you're wanting the mask to match the move of the port. If this is accurate, you'd want to track the object and attach the text to that. Then, separately, you'd track the port and attach the mask to that one.
I''ve been with DR for 3 wonderfull years now but Fusion is still a place of frustration for me. e.g. PlanarTransform-Nodes are working well with Text+Nodes but not with images.Why is that? Yes, one can cornerpin the image but ist seems to me it loses "clarity" esp. when effects like glow or edge detect are applied. Damn Fusion is always like one step forward and two back.
Is this how someone would add, say for example, a set of trees assets from like blender to their scene to enhance it? Or would that be a different technique?

Casey. I have bought your course in the past, and thought I could use this planar tracker to do what I am looking for. But in your example here it has me baffled. Basically, I have a scene from the point of view of one drone that I am following another drone. I want to be able to zoom in on that other drone and keep it in the center of the scene, maybe zooming in and out as it flies. But of course, it isn't perfect. So is there away to stabilize the drone I am following so that it is always in the center of the video?
You want to switch the operation mode from "track" to "stabilize"
U insert text and sudeenly it works, I insert the text in the same way and it doesn't

Just drag media into the node flow. From media pool or a finder/explorer window
What is the difference between the planar tracker and the regular tracker?
Regular tracker only tracks x and y (plus rotation if you have 2 or more.) Plus it only tracks 1 point. This is great if you're trying to track, say, an errant light to paint it out. But if you're wanting to track an area (or perspective), like the tops of some mountains, planar tracker is your boy.
@@HikingWithCooper ok thanks. I have used the regular tracker for pointers to indicate a location in a scene and they work ok for my needs. But I will keep this in mind for next time.

The first time I tried planar tracker, it would track and then stop midway. Even after I tried multiple times, it still stopped mid track. I got turned off by it and requested a refund for Resolve studio
More than likely what was being tracked went off screen or was covered. You can restart a track when it goes awry using a different point / area and then offset that.

davinci resolve fusion just makes things over complicated . Nuke is so easy to understand
this is another case of BAD TERMINOLOGY screwing up everyone's understanding of the tool even before we even try it.
"planar tracker" might as well be a trademark of MOCHA and so everyone coming to this from mocha will be wondering if it's the same thing and if not, what about this is "planar"?
what is planar about this tool? is it indeed trying to track things on a single plane... or not? or is this just a 2d track and that's what they mean by planar?

This is the most pointless "tutorial" I've ever seen. Skip steps, nothing is correct and nothing works. This is the same for all other tracking videos you've made.

I did this with some text and everything seemed to work fine but I hid my text instead of the merge when following along at 1:14 . When I un-hid it after following all the rest of the tutorial it was still invisible. I'll have to try it again another time I guess.

i did the same setup as you, but all that happened is the media i want to paste onto my tracker is stuck in the middle of my video. any ideas?
Add a Transform node before the planar transform?

I did all the steps in this and I can't get the tracking to work, an error always comes up and says "Track Failed: Invalid current time, the current time must be within the render range. I had clicked set for the reference time, does anyone else experience this and know how to fix it?
