  • When Charles Mullins left the Marine Corps in 2002, after enlisting in 1998, he moved to Florida with the woman who would become his wife. But his prospects after the infantry were not how he wanted to live his life: a few dead-end jobs before getting laid off. He needed a change.
So he enrolled in Tulsa Welding School in Jacksonville with the GI Bill, where he acquired a solid foundation on welding theory and practice. The instructors took the time to walk him through every process and make sure he had a good handle on everything. When he welded right, they showed him how to weld even better.
After graduation when he saw a crew working on the railroad tracks, Mullins knew where he wanted to take his welding career. Mullins got hired on at Railworks, where he has worked as a welder for more than 10 years, doing maintenance for railroads. His welds cover train tracks all over the country.
Mullins currently works as a welding foreman, but he has plans to work his way up to a welding supervisor position. In the meantime, he gets to pay his bills, support his family and have a bit of fun along the way.
Tulsa Welding School was founded in 1949 by two welders who recognized a strong demand for skilled tradesman in their industry. Over 60 years later, Tulsa Welding School (TWS) has evolved into an educational institution that prepares students for various skilled trade careers with a multitude of specialties and applications. Graduates from Tulsa Welding School are trained to have the knowledge, skills and essential attitude to immediately enter their chosen profession.
