  • What's the best speaker for the Quad Cortex, ToneX, Axe Fx, Kemper or Helix? FRFR or Studio monitors? I personally think that studio monitors are best.

Great video with excellent points. I made the switch last year from my single Friedman ASM-12 to a pair of Kali LP6 V2's, as well. Nice to have my stereo effects intact, and my family no longer complaining about the volume. They don't break the bank, either.

Yeah you are right. I run the LP6s v1 for years now. Those are great in a small room. Especially because the bass reflex pipe is in the front. So even if you put these against a wall you will not suffer the same reflections as much as other back plane pipe speakers. Also the dip switches are awesome for the positioning.

I had bought just one Yamaha HS8 just to try and I was very happy with it and my Helix.Great detail and depth.
I don't need stereo just for practice and it is great to edit the sound for a studio and live vibe.
I record through a pair of Genelecs and the spread of sound is smily great.

I agree with your thoughts on FRFR speakers vs studio monitors.I have a pair of Friedman 500W FRFR wedges They are cool and loud (and heavy), and are made for live situations, but they don't have the response of studio monitors. A while back, I purchased a pair of Kali LPC6 studio monitors for work. I am a design engineer in a speaker design company. For the money, Kali Audio product are a great value. For people playing at home with digital platforms, no question, studio monitors are way to go. And I will say the Kali Audio studios monitors sound great!

Thanks for the video. I have a question, since the Friedman FRFR changes the sound so much, have you thought about building a flight case for 2x Kali Audio LP 8 V2 and using them live? I have tested almost all FRFRs on the market and each one sounds different and each changes the tone, and I don't want to mess around with EQing and sending different signals to FRFR and FOH.

Ok you sold me bud. Are you running these XLR L/R out of your Kemper or Quad, directly into the monitors. Not into any interface first. I will use your link as well. Keep up with the killer videos. You are one of the top, top guys on here for sure.

Hello. Thanks for your valuable point of view. I have some studio minitors and 112 amp, if you compare sound from them - if you like more "real" sound - you'll choose real cab instead of the monitors.
And having this I wanted to try frfr with idea that frfr will be kinda same as my 112 but more flexible in case of changing Ir - change the type of sound in frfr.
Playing with my 112 - I turn off cabsim in my processor (cause I already have the real cab so don't need to emulate). After I have watched few of your videos - now I am confused: so I don't need to have frfr if I have studio monitors cause of frfr will sound not better than them? Following this logic - eventually I will still prefer my boss nextone with multifx using fx loop and with torned power amp / cab on my multifx?..
If so - than I don't have to buy anything cause of I'll regret after spending pretty much money for something like Line6 Powercab.
It's great that you highlighted that you are talking specifically about playing at home cause of I am also playing only at home but when you go to frfr videos - most of them will speak about monitoring on live gigs etc
So for home studio monitors with multifx is better than frfr, right?

    • @TONEWARSgearshow
      @TONEWARSgearshow  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

Yes, save your money and just use a good pair of studio monitors for home use. I actually playing my quad cortex through my Kali audio monitors as I'm typing this.

Studio monitors are the best way to play guitar at home, way more bang for buck over any other alternative, even if you’re not mixing audio, just having a stereo sound is an upgrade over an amp or FRFR. I personally think that if you can make noise on stage I would rather play a tube amp over an FRFR. Now the question is, how worth it is it to spend more money on lets say Yamaha’s H8 over these speakers? How much are you actually missing out when you skimp on speaker cost?

I've been waiting nearly 2.5 hours for you to release this video so I can go home. Finally. Now I have a video to watch while I drive home. Traveling at 70mph for an hour is so BORING without something to watch while I drive. And thankfully this video is about Kali's not Mesa which means I wont go into savage road rage while listening to "modern metal tones from Mesa" Golly, I just want to crush small animals when I hear a Mesa. Thanks for the upload, I can finally drive home----Ben
Kali rules, Mesa blows. The Friedman JLE20 is 45,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 times better than any Mesa. Jake E Lee would CRUSH Josh Penuchi in any guitar battle. Jake E Lee is an honorable musician. Jack Peshnuchi is a gear licensing hoar (whore). Plus Jake is more sanitary because he does not have a ragged unsannitary fur bundle attached to his chin. Plus Jake is better at interviews and being an awesome husband. And Jake is a much better chef than Jack Pretushi. Facts are facts.
