FRFR is cool, but for touring I was always in a situations where we were backlining and/or sharing cabs with bands and no one else uses an FRFR lol

This is where you have an IR signal going to FOH and an amp sim signal going into the power amp of the backline.

What would you recommend as alternative?
I’ve owned a pair of these Headrush 112’s with my modelers for years. Now I use them with my Kemper and it really allows all the little tweaks to be heard clearly and yes, at 2000 watts each they get very loud. Plus with two you get stereo output. Huge fan

Ray... I’m currently running my HX stomp into the 108 in the bedroom and I love it...it’s working out great... I can get bedroom volume levels or blow the windows out...cool stuff...rock on my man!!!!
Make sure the contour button on the back is in flat response mode, or it'll add extra bass in your low end. . I run two headrush 108 FRFR speakers with my Axe fx3. Sounds killer, plenty loud for live band practice.
You can always throw a PEQ or a GEQ block in front of your output, and dial in/out or up/down any frequencies you desire.
FR systems are literally a blank canvas, but they do need a mid bump and a cut in the sub 400-600Hz area to give that guitar cab feel. Plus a bit of "air", e.g. reverb or "room".
I recently got the small version of that FRFR headrush, just to run my pod go at home, I'm new to this modeling stuff, but shit it sounds pretty dam amazing.
I just bought a headrush, my first entry into modeling. It's fun having all the amps and pedals right in front of you.
I used a frfr for awhile for the bass for stage volume I liked the idea of it but it never sounded right for it. Went back to using a bass cab with a power amp and that worked. Just recently got a Mesa walkabout combo which is very lite and loud for a combo. You could also take the head apart and use what ever cab you want. It has came in handy many times. Our guitar players in the band now just use single speaker combos into the return and it works super well
Great review. I snagged this over a tube-amp, and I'll be using my Neural plugins through it. I'm not playing incredibly loud, so this seems like a nice balance when it comes to size/sound-quality while letting me leverage Neural stuff. Cheers

Late question. Do you find that in terms of loudness and “cut”, it holds up to something like a 6505 with a 412 in a band mix?

I use the 8” version of that with my Pod Go and it’s great. Backpack with Pod Go and cables, guitar in one hand and that monitor in the other…gig easy! It sounds great and FOH sound tech always loves me 🙂

Festivals where I know I won’t have great monitors from the event production company. I dont have time to get the house to set up my monitor levels as part of an 8 piece band with 10 minute turnovers. Gives me 100% control over my monitoring.
I just wish it had the volume and power controls on the front where you could reach them when it’s laying down like a wedge.
These are great speakers. I bought a couple these for my Quad Cortex. With some EQ and bass traps on wall corners, these sound prenominal. Initially I struggled with the boominess but bass traps in my home studio did the trick for me. Cheers !!
Question. You said you would run it from your Helix to a power amp/cab and also to your headrush FRFR. Does that mean u need to have 2 signal chains? One signal path with CAB sims off into the power amp/cab and one signal path with CAB sims on into Headrush FRFR?
I use my headrush112 when i want to run lean. I still have my Orange cabs, and powerstage 200 for when I want to sound closer to a real thing. It depends on how my back is feeling. I like both ways of monitoring.
Recently got one and im super happy with it.
Wow I was really impressed with how the bass sounded like a good thump! My little Yamaha Thr10 with three inch speakers sounds great but does not get loud or have much bass at all! Thinking of trying this speaker out!

This Headrush unit is literally a rebranded wedge monitor marketed for guitarists for a bit more money. The exact same unit exists with a different branding and marketed as a vocal monitor wedge.
To this date, its the most affordable in its category.
@@JV8901 go look at the Alto TS312. Same exact product but with a mic preamp. And it's branded as a PA speaker/monitor. People who have tried both say they juat sound exactly the same.

Playing for a long time the Headrush 112 with my Kemper in rehearsal and its gerat! A lot of power!
I had a Laney LFR FRFR cab for my Fractal FM3, on paper it sounded like a good way to go. But it didn't sound very good, too boomy, sounded like a blanket over the cab, it kept clipping, I spent more time building presets than playing. Finding the right IR for the FRFR was definitely a challenge. Switched over to a real 2x12 cab and a power amp and I spend more time playing than building presets.
Were you referring to the Laney lfr112 or lfr212? I am choosing between this headrush 112 or the lfr112. What would you recommend aside from getting a real cab since my budget is not that deep as of now.
@@jeeeeev It was 112 version. I probably should've spent more time with it, but several times it kept clipping at rehearsal so it was time to move it out. Who knows, maybe mine was defective? A lot of people are happy with the headrush, some say its boomy sounding, I'd say walk in to a shop and test one out, I'm sure guitar center should have some available on floor to try out and let them know you want to plug in your modeler. Are you playing in a full band? Playing shows?
@@TheSpineSplitter1990 I currently own the hr108, tho i love the tones I am getting, my guitar just wont cut within the band during a live performance. We have a very loud drummer and a noisy genre, that is why I am currently on the hunt of a compact yet loud alternative for my 108.
@@jeeeeev I hear you, I also was having the same problem when I was playing in my loud noisy punk band. My drummer is also a hard hitting drummer. I would just give that headrush frfr a shot and in the modeler cut some bass in the eq block. I see some people use two of them since theyre cheap to get a full wide stereo sound. Or check out some of the other P.A speakers guitar center has on display, some of them max out up to 300 plus watts. It just depends on what I.R you use and your eq settings.
I have the same one I use with a pod go. I want another for stereo like you said but I just play mindless chugs and old metal stuff so probably would only play around with stereo. All the different amps and cabs and mic placement gets too much for me though and kinda sucks out my motivation to play. I find myself fiddling all the knobs instead of playing guitar. I thought about trading everything in for a 5150 combo or something so I just have 2 channels and that's it lol.
If you send a stereo signal into the FRFR, can you send a stereo signal back to a P.A. from the speaker itself or will it be mono signal?
I had an EV 12" FRFR and it had the exact same control panel as the Headrush. i wonder who makes these for Headrush?
I dont really understand the issue with: "It sounds like a big DJ/Party speaker - not a guitar cabinet". It is a flat response speaker, so it will just materialize everything the modeller is doing, and part of the modeller is: cab simulation. So if you use good cab sims (some good IRs), shouldnt the FRFR-speaker than sound like a simulated Mesa or whatever?
I have two 112 s. You need that, trust me. It is epic.
I use the Friedman 12” FRFR cab with the helix. It’s sounds pretty damn good man. I’d like two. Haha
I’ve been running my line 6 POD GO into the power section of my solid state fender mustang GTX amp. Would I need an Frfr cab or should I just stick with my combo?
im wondering does the pod go combined with the the mustang sound better than regular mustang?

The best frfr by a long shot is definitely mission Gemini 2 the 2/12 version it’s the most expensive but definitely worth the investment
Has anybody plugged a bass (through a DI like a tech 21) into one of these things? I play both guitar and bass, need something for my hx stomp but it would be nice to have a light amp if I'm playing bass

Look into the Mission Engineering. I have the FRFR Gemini 2-P. Is an unpowered cab, I use a Matrix GT1600 power amp.
I have the same power amp. Was looking into that mission 2-p cab. How does it hang with all the watts of the matrix?

I switched to Tech 21 FRFR cabs. Just more low end oomph to my ears anyway.
The HR FRFR-112 is way too nasally for my taste. Laney LFR-212 is it for me. Option to use FRFR or emulate the 1x12 or 4x12. Moves air like a real cab and looks good.

I've spent the last year gigging with the stage wedges to monitor my guitar. Conclusion:. IT SOUNDS LIKE S**T. So now I'm going to start taking a solid birch 1X12 cab with a Celestion FRFR speaker (I think it's the X200).

From what i take from your opinion is the real thing sounds better. It has its uses but it still sounds not like the real tube amp blowing in your ears.
If you had to crank it to match the other guys, something is wrong. These are 2000W peak, so close to 1000WRMS, so you should NOT have to go anywhere near max volume to play in a rehearsal.
I have the 108 it sounds dark.
So I just got this unit to use with my ISP theta pro DSP floorboard.... It sounds like ASS!😫 Through a tube sock😩 I really had my hopes set on this being my go-to speaker for practice and live performance, but I'm not impressed. If anybody out there thinks our knows what I might be doing wrong, please feel free to let me know.

I think you have the exact wrong approach towards InEars. The smaller the venue, the more limited and sh*tty the monitoring will be - and the more you will benefit from IEMs. You get decent systems for just over 200 bucks (say a Phenyx Pro PTM-10 for example) which is a steal. The thing with wedges and backline cabs is always that that the sound changes dramatically, depending on where you stand. Take a few steps away from the "blasting direction" of your cab and the other instruments on a small stage will make it impossible to hear yourself. With IEMs the sound will just stay the same, no matter where you are on stage. As a guitarist, that's the most important thing pro IEMs - it will make you play better and more precise.
I just had a stupid thought, and I know its my first one ever, but are you considered a hoarder if all the stuff you have is cool? I just picture a mountain of amps and guitars in a basement, not necessarily Ray's could be anyone's could be mine, maybe yours, but thats not mental illness right? That's just making sure you got the right sound...Right? 😆

Feeding a modeller into a guitar amp and then into a guitar cab is not exactly intelligent.
If it doesn't sound like a guitar cabinet, either the speakers frequency range is crap, it is missing key frequencies or the speaker emulation/IR is crap. If I plug my favorite cd through that speaker, is the guitar going to sound like crap? It doesn't make sense to emulate a cabinet with the sound coming from the cabinet you are trying to fake. That is crazy thinking. Let me put my IR through an actual 4x12 with V30s, so it feels more real. If the IR is good and the speaker is in fact flat, meaning not boosting nor cutting/missing certain frequencies, it should sound like a damn 4x12 right in front of you. If that is not the case, the speaker sucks or IR technology is just not close enough yet. I should be able to be able to put on headphones and if blindfolded, imagine I am standing in front of a 4x12. FRFR is just BS marketing from what I can tell.
