What has Caitlin Clark done to warrant bad faith interpretation of her comments? That's my issue--anyone who infers negative, is representing their own views and agenda. She has been nothing but kind (off the court, on the court she's a killer) I like your thoughtfulness and evenness. Thank you. Can't wait to the season to hear your takes on actual ball.

No. On this one, race had zero to do with it.

That's the problem with people, when people have an agenda and we don't fit into that agenda, we then become a problem. Great video! I have a lot of male friends of every race whose favorite female player is Clark but who's favorite THREE NBA players of all time are black. A couple put Larry Bird at third. Most of these guys started watching WBB because of Clark's playstyle. She brought them in and as the season went on they were learning about other players. Most stuck with the Fever, but some started liking the Aces or the Lynx with a couple going for the Liberty. All respected the Suns but none favored them, which is why I think its playstyle. People like exciting players or teams.

She did not mince words when she pointed out that people for whom she is a mascot aren’t really fans of hers if her political opinions have caused them to sour on her. My fandom started because she was a Hawkeye AND because she’s actually from Iowa, but she has held my fandom with her excellence on the court and her poise behind the mic.

The best thing about your dialogue is very representative of the disparity within the fan base. The manner in which you research and pull different aspects together reveals that you're asking questions to expand your understanding of a situation and learn more about the world around you. Those who are condemning thoughts, jumping to quick conclusions, or filling in blanks are simply keeping themselves comfortable and safe by keeping out anything they don't understand by characterizing things as whatever is easily available within the scope of their beliefs. Until it becomes the norm to gain understanding through asking questions and listening to all sides, there will continue to be opinions shared representing more the feelings of the author than the subject at hand.

We as Black Americans need to understand that when it comes to sports we don’t corner the market on all of the greatest players. Some of us literally think that there’s no way any White player can be as good or better than a Black players and that just dumb in my opinion and always have been. Calling CC22 the great White hope is the greatest example of this. No other races of people think like this we some of us certainly do and some of the WNBA really do to.

But is it her fault that she benefitted from the birth of NIL deals in college? No. Is it her fault her college does a great job managing media? No. Does she get more money as a white woman than she would as a black woman? For sure. Is that her fault? No! But it feels to me like a lot of it is just jealousy about the money.

You’re also very right on media savvy which far too few mention, the Iowa Women’s Basketball program has trained her VERY well which adds to her appeal. As a white woman, I've very rarely heard any Black woman (or Black person) say they didn't think acknowledging white privilege was important the way you did here, Quita. I'm certain she was trained to do so, and I agree she needs to, fwiw.
I agree with you that she isn't disliked because of her lack of pigment. Anyone denying racial dynamics is avoiding reality, for sure. This country was built by Black and Indigenous people.
What is the MOST crappy about this situation, however, is this is a time to publicly respond to our racist history and systems by building each other up. And while I think CC does this, I don't think the vets do. Aja is downright irresponsible with her rhetoric; hypocritical to name one form of privilege while ignoring the ways she was born privileged. It becomes another example of women being catty and passively tearing each other down, instead of the possibility to see women come together and build each other up- of all skin tones.
I'd prefer to watch them hype each other up than this gossipy rivalry stuff. And if you poke someone in the eye, offer to help them off the floor.

I agree with you Quita about players not being political mascots. They can think whatever they want. However, people become fans not only about the skill but also the person, that's the truth. When an athlete you like agrees on something you don't agree it might get backlash. The key of the backlash was her saying "being white, there is privilege", that was the problem. I think she made a mistake there considering the racial tension in the US. I will continue watching, I just hope she doesn't become Megan Rapinoe

@jinku77 there is privilege tho, so that shouldn't be a political statement. It's a fact. A provable, researched fact. Plenty of people would have been mad if she tried to deny that.

    • @jinku77
      @jinku77 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

@sierrafrost1222 What research has facts that prove there is white privilege? It is nonesense. And yeah, a lot of people would be mad if she didn't acknowledge it, guess they are still mad, those people are never happy, it is never enough inclusion and recognition, so that's why I think she made a big mistake. Time will tell if she will regret it or not

I think other players in the WNBA think they are just as good or better than Caitlin Clark and that means that they should get more love form the media too. I personally agree with that. It has nothing to do about race. On the other hand, I agree with people who are turned off by the constant complaining by a lot of the WNBA players about complaining about not getting paid enough when the don't enough fans to pay for their salaries with the NBA subsidizing their league. That is only going to make these players less popular. It's really best to not say much publicly about social issues and politics. Something like the idea of "white privilege" because many people thinks it's a racist and ignorant concept that shouldn't accepted, and there a lot of people that do believe in it and believe people who don't accept it are racist, so there is no winning situation. Either situation you wind up being made out to support racism and in someone's doghouse. So really athletes should just stick to talking about sports and stay humble. If you really want the league to be more popular, controversial activism is not the way. It will get the league cooked.

No athlete has increased their sports revenue like CC other than Tiger Woods. Not to mention her foundation gave 5 million to charities. Not to mention she is the first player in WNBA history to try and get bonuses for players based on attendance. Not to mention she got the league chartered flights. Not to mention she got endorsements for a few of her teammates ( she declined TJ Maxx and gave it to Allyah Boston). She also got Mitchell, wheeler and Hull in commercials. Yeah..she is athlete of the year and I didn’t mention 62 records broken.

Separating Truth from Fiction indeed, since Kelsey Mitchell and Plum both shot higher percentages from 3s then CC over their entire College Careers. Here's another FACT, Pete Maravich set the scoring Record in 3 years and without the help of the 3 point shot, something CC thrives on in spite of the fact she did NOT perform at a higher level doing it compared to Kelsey Mitchell and Plum in College. So the Firestorms happen when we award everything to the Losers as opposed to those that have actually WON or actually did it BETTER. Like at least somebody from the New York Liberty or at the very least, the undisputed WNBA MVP, Wilson.

CC was responsible for 25% of the WNBAs revenue. So unless 3 point shot% and winning a college championship or WNBA championship is more important…there it is. Aja Wilson has 3 MVPs and two titles…yet never did that to the league bottom line. Cash flow is king.

why continue to pretend that what she said is harmless?? she told the white girls that whatever goal they reach is only because of the color of their skin and she told the black girls that no matter how hard they try they will always be behind some mediocre white girl, I am Italian and I have no interest in your politics, but I felt dragged in being an ex-fan now. she implied that her fans are racist and that what she achieved is only due to privilege, well then why doesn't she give the roty back to angel who honestly did better and has many more fans than cc?? and maybe she should have refused the recognition of the time that should have gone to aja. anyway life goes on and angel has a new fan
