If you could PLEASE do me a huge favor and actually watch the full Caitlin Clark section (which is 30 minutes) before commenting. I tried my best to layout my thoughts and I want to hear what you have to say about it after hearing the whole thing. Also, if you wouldn't mind please hit that like button and subscribe to the channel.
You did a great job on this topic. I'll watch the rest tomorrow. You are my favorite person to listen to on the W because you are authentic and fearless.
Sorry but somehow it's not about race when we supported MJ and LeBron and multiple black athletes but when we support Caitlin just have the balls to take a stance quita riding the fence makes you a coward
I agree that Megyn Kelly is out of her mind with her rant. Candace Owens called her out on this lol. I really think both Candace Owens and you had the best takes on this. Like everyone leave Caitlin Clark alone and let her work on her game.
This is why you are arguably the best WBB channel. I’ve never felt like you put politics of the off the court stuff ahead of the game. Keep being you Quita. You’re pretty amazing.
I was happy for her when I saw the YT post about the award. I then saw all the anger. I read the entire article. I was not angry with Caitlin. I did not agree with everything but was not angry. I am a 56 year old white woman and I work in a career which spans multiple states and communicate with people with differing opinions and political leanings most days. I do not live in an echo chamber. Caitlin has not (to my knowledge) criticized people who may not share her view. In other words, I do not see or hear her belittling people who have different views than hers. And so, I applaud her for being strong and I enjoy watching her play basketball. I am shocked how quickly some people turned on her and with such loud negativity. She had been criticized for staying quiet. Well, she spoke. Like what she said or not, she is an excellent basketball player. Lastly, who knows how the Times gathered the information for the article. It seems to me she was asked several questions in the race area and Caitlin answered. If Caitlin had not answered, what would the narrative about her been if the article stated “ when asked if race is an issue, Caitlin declined to answer”. She could not win, regardless.
You continue to be one of the very, very few unbiased WNBA talking heads we have on any social media platform. You give your opinions, while also stating the facts. Everything isn't extreme one way or another. So I just wanted to thank you for being that if I haven't already. We see you and it's very much appreciated!
As a black woman if you don’t call out the unjust you are just as guilty as those that are being unjust! But I will continue to watch but I am disappointed!
There's a cottage industry of youtubers and podcasters who use and abuse Caitlin Clark's name, pro and con. Months ago I skimmed a bunch of them, found that most are inarticulate, use deceptive headlines, and advertise far more than they deliver. It was tiresome, boring for the most part, but I did the homework and moved on. For the most part, these sites and pages are brain-deadening, a waste of time. There are very few basketball sites that are intelligent, useful, factual, and thought provoking. Your is one of them, Quita. Stay true, and thank you.
Yep, there’s a feature on here that gives you the option “do not recommend this channel” I believe that’s how it’s worded, I use it on the talking heads you mentioned.
I'm a 64 year old Mexican who was born and raised in Chihuahua, the largest state of Mexico, very close to the US border, and have lived my whole life in Mexico with other 140 million more Mexicans. In all of the Northern and Southeast of Mexico racism is not an issue at all nor it is a political issue. There are thousands of Northern Mexico native american continent Mexicans and we get along just fine. I had never watched BB until CC was all over the news. I was a Megyn Kelly fan since the movie BOMBSHELL came out (where Charlize Theron did a great job playing MK and she was nominated for an Oscar) also because she is an experienced reporter and lawyer and because I learned a lot of US politics. She started to interview people who knows about BB and she spoke very well about CC until the Time magazine best athlete of the year and interview with Caitlin Clark and became one of the worst haters of CC because she "bent the knee" and to me there was nothing wrong with what CC said because of what the lady of this video said. I was expecting she said something about MK and her wrong behavior Toward CC to try and understand why. I think MK is very wrong about the whole CC issue. Was she jealous that she's never been most powerful woman of anything? Is she trying to decrease her number of fans (which is unlikely to happen) what is she trying to do? It is clear that she hates and discriminates against Hispanics who migrate to USA from all over Latinamerica and all over the world who cross the Mexican border to the USA by the thousands evry day legally and illegally, not just Mexicans. Mexico is the 12th largest economy of the world right now, there are jobs for everyone, even for those immigrants who decide to stay in Mexico, above all professionals in all things, like doctors and so, but also for everybody else. MK behavior looks childish. I cancel my subscription with her (which she couldn't care less) and subscribed to this channel because I very much like the way she addressed the CC issue in a much professional way and also for the things that she covers. Good for her. Thousands of Mexicans will remain fans of CC for her game. The "woke" thing is something that doesn't exist here. Thank you, I like your comment.
Quita's commentary was well-spoken. I agree with what she said about Catlin. I am a white conservative girl who loves watching B-ball and Caitlin. Catlin hasn't said or done anything to make me stop supporting her. I will also be supporting Hannah Hidaigo because I love watching her and share similar values that she has expressed. It's normal to be a fan of a player for the way they are on the court and just be extra excited that they have things in common with you.
I'm not trying to be sleep she talking about the big picture of privilege she didn't say one word about her privilege it's the privilege of the United States of being white meaning all men are created equal in the Constitution since it was written in colonial days hello but it's not we are founded on privilege of titlement using Christ as a guideline holy than thou we are better than anybody else complexion that's the Native American Indians the true Americans 200 years of slavery privilege segregation civil rights privilege hello that's what you mean can't check out the same water fountain black white excuse me color sitting the back of the bus privilege can't eat in front of the restaurant privilege that's the part people tend to forget our history I'm a personal color but that's the the gist of our country we should have got past that 2024 we see all these people don't like vipers with no Christianity background which means say something that's positive Martin Luther King Malcolm X Gandhi Mother Teresa to uplift all colors Cheryl sweets the Antichrist AJ Wilson same thing people come out of their mouth to benefit them to knock down those that are shining a major light over everybody else but there's always going to be people the devil that want to strike them back down put them back in their place cuz I was here let it be written let it be so if you don't think that's the truth it's America then you got another thing coming Judas Priest
Hats off to those of us who can rise above the race issues in this country, and they do exist, because of our shared interest. Maybe, just maybe, we can learn about each other's cultures in the process. This old white dude from Kentucky doesn't follow you because you are a black girl from Chicago. I follow you because we have a shared passion towards women's basketball. I follow you because of your awesome insight on the sport. I love your deep dives, you live videos, your weeklies, your polls polls polls polls we do adore. You rock Quita, you do you very well. P.S. I love your family element too. Of course, I have to mention that I love Mr. President as well. APOTI 4ever!
I have some concerns regarding CC's actions. The incident with the poke in the eye appeared intentional and could have had serious consequences for her career. While I genuinely appreciate her efforts to uplift others in the league, it's important to acknowledge that the league had been struggling prior to her arrival. Additionally, I feel that her use of diversity, equity, and inclusion language may come off as insincere in this context. It would be beneficial to have a more open conversation about these issues.
@@ObiahjonesI think it’s okay to have concerns and require more conversations. It’s the people that shut conversation down with catch phrases and manipulative declarations that are not helpful. I wish more people could be respectful towards Caitlin. If she said she didn’t believe the eye poke to be intentional, why not take her word for it? Why don’t we trust her to interpret her own experience? Not being taken seriously is a problem that women and women of colour have a shared experience in. This may be a ground that women can unite on going forward, if we can allow ourselves to not be divided. If someone shares an experience, believe them just as you would expect to be believed yourself.
After listening to the video in its entirety, I must commend you for a job well done. I believe that there is nothing wrong with appreciating a player with whom you relate, but you must also appreciate the game and skills of others, even if you don't view the world precisely as they do.
Would you say you agree with Megyn Kelly’s principle that ‘athletes’ specifically have an ‘obligation’ to keep their contentious political views to themselves and to “shut up and dribble”? Or would you agree with the principle that 1) athletes are ‘permitted’ to say whatever they want and 2) it is viewers who have the ‘obligation’ not to care about what the athlete says and to focus strictly on the game? The contrary principles get at which side has an obligation in the matter.
@@SinisterAristotlethat was Laura Ingraham that said the shut up and dribble comment and the question you are posing is answering itself with Caitlin working on her game. She doesn’t want to do speaking tours or interviews unless she has to. She would rather work on her floaters and consistency on 3s than talking to the media
I’ve been waiting to hear your views and I agree with you 💯. I just want to watch great basketball and not focus on all the controversy. Love your intro, as well! Keep being you!!!
I think there are some in the WNBA who wrongly think the drama is a good thing & brings in more fans. The drama may bring more attention from social media sites, but it just takes away the real focus which should be the basketball play. Real basketball fans who actually watch the games on TV & buy tickets, merch, etc don't care for the drama, they just want to watch great basketball.
Great thoughts as usual. I am Angel Reese fan but happy to see her on Time magazine and well deserved. I appreciated what she said with her own thoughts and mind. You can love both Caitlin and Angel at the same time. Those people that are saying they she is now woke or whatever, were really never her fan and was just using her.
If you’ve followed Caitlin’s career, you know she is a genuine person who has, time and time again, been forced to comment on crazy situations. She’s smart and well spoken - especially when you consider that she is 22 years old. Why is she expected to pay tribute to every WNBA star who came before her? Anyway - I agree with your take on this situation. I think a lot of the backlash comes from people reading all the clickbait headlines.
This is CLEARLY not organic discussion. NOT Clark just saying what she would say. The ''journalist'' was leading the conversation toward the ''black women in the WNBA'' victim narrative. . . There is NO WAY that this can be considered authentic conversation on Clark's part. - The exact phrasing that she used has been used repetitively over the last few years. There is no sensible reason to suddenly be talking about ''black'' WNBA players when receiving an award. In no other league, ever have we seen the stars of the day focus on the race of players in the past, or even into repetive conversations about past players SO MANY times when they are interviewed.
I’m not following you. Conversations are organic when they involve someone responding to a question they are asked. Journalists ask questions about narratives that already exist. (It’s why a coach of a football team where there’s a QB controversy will be asked about their QB philosophy 50 times in a post-season.). You can argue that too much of the narrative around the WNBA involves race, but I don’t see how anything is abnormal about this particular interview.
@analogee6858 I'm identifying the loose use of language. Ex...at what point then would an interview not be organic or normal? If every q & a conversation is such, then there's no use for the adjectives. Clark was speaking in the loaded verbiage of the left, expected for the left media - not in her natural vocabulary or themes.
@@destinypirate I’m curious to know how you know what her “natural vocabulary or themes” are (or what you think that means in general). 97% of Clark’s interviews are about basketball - specifically about a game she just played or is about to play. Another 2% are about her overall growth as an individual player over xx period of time. She uses vocabulary and phrasing appropriate to those subjects (as most people would). If you think either is indicative of how she goes around talking all of the time, I don’t know what to tell you. This article was about her experience in the WNBA, what she did in the league this summer and what she sees going forward. Part of that experience involved racial discussions. She’s naturally going to use a different type of vocab for that. This is not out of keeping with how she sounded on SNL or what being interviewed about Maya Moore. You read this language as left-coded, but really it’s just vocabulary that people (specifically younger people) use when talking about race and racial differences. It’s gotten stigmatized and politicized by right-wing media, but there’s nothing inherently left-wing about it. Even if there were, I think right-wing people keep missing the fact that Clark was raised in Des Moines and went to school in Iowa City. Two blue dots, which are more diverse than the rest of the state. As someone with friends in the area who has spent a fair bit of time there, the idea that Clark was raised in right-wing culture was always kind of laughable.
@@analogee6858 I know because I have followed Clark since HS and I also speak Iowan. Clark in not interested, like Iowans, incendiary vocabulary (or left-coded if you feel the need to invent new descriptors). She, like nearly all Iowans, is easy to say that people would do better not to be racist, selfish, evil etc. Saying such falls within her natural usage. She won't be obsessing over demographics though and, as you noted, preferss to talk about the game of basketball. She is sensible and has picked up what the coastal leftists (like the TIME ''journalists") expet and, like any sensible Iowan, knows to throw the wolves a little rotten meat when passing through their territory. You have no idea about Iowans if you think that we are right or left wing coasties. Foundationally we grow food and provide for our familie and the entire country - more than any other peoples - our politics are grounded in good sense. You can see this exemplified in how Clark speaks and acts, how she weathers the constant attacks (and assaults) and excels through hard work, loyalty, corny humor, and Christian charity. The TIME play is her family strategy to claim more ground in the zeitgeist against the dark motives of all who try to undermine her. If you think that Clark actually is on the leftist democratic division game, you are sadly projecting. When it comes to Clark's humanitarian concerns, these begin and end with children - starting with the Hawkeye (Stead Family) Children's Hospital and extending to the millions of kids who see her as a role model. She understands well that using TIME to increase her footprint will allow her greater outreach to kids and ability to inspire more charity for the hospital.
The WNBA will rise and benefit by the privilege earned as they uniquely differentiate themselves by their mastery of their Basketball skills. To be blessed to play a sport for a living. To be a person who earns privilege by their calling to compete, by their gratitude for owning their ‘purpose’ to entertain. A’ja is currently the MVP, yet she does not move games from a 4000 seat Mystic court to a 20,000 seat court. The Rookie Caitlin has captured universal interest by her pure enthusiasm for Basketball and her tenacious commitment to reaching for her highest entertainment potential. Uniquely, and typical of ‘the Great Ones’, Caitlin is a selfless player… a team player. CC is equal to the highest example of an athlete who is there to maximize her value to the Fever and to the experience the Fan who buys a ticket is enjoying. This TIME Athlete of the Year.
Thank you Quita, Caitlyn created a major shift forward for the WNBA, bringing a national fan base of all ages to the game, Caitlyn has always said that Maya Moore was her inspiration, I also think that Caitlyn will always work for players like Maya to get the recognition they deserve, she has earned Athlete of the Year.
You are THE best resource for women's ball & my personal favorite player, CC. I've been a W fan since its inception, but like so many others, I see the clear difference between CC & literally every other player, ever. Her pace, movement patterns, shot selection, & playmaking are all inarguably sui generis...those attributes also all happen to be what most BB fans consider to be exciting. CC would be even more popular with a higher melanin count, in my estimation anyhow...I just hope that next season we can largely move on from the insecurities, the immaturity, the infantilization of women, the partisan hackery, all of it. I cracked up before I finished that sentence because I of course know that ain't happenin'!! Perhaps some of it can be tamped down, perhaps it'll all be even worse next season, especially with the orange guy at the helm; we'll see...but one thing is certain, Quita will be the adult in the room & my favorite/best resource for everything women's ball - I look forward to seeing you on TV in the near future, if that's something you even want, you're a star.
Race doesn't put the Ball in the Basket, race doesn't pass the Ball to Teammates , race doesn't sign autographs,,,Energy, Talent and Good Sportsmanship make a Difference
You're being apologist, Aja, DeJonai, and others have directly derided Clark for not jumping on the race-focus train. You can say they don't hate her, as an unprovable absolute truth (what is love, what is hate? ) but they are hating on her, her brand, her fame, her origin story, her people. If these women were genuiine, they could direct their hate towards their own brand and people who failed to support them. The funniest part about all of this is the ignorance. If A'ja, or any other player had gone to Iowa and did great things and was loyal and charitable like Clark, she would be LOVED like by the Iowans like no other people. Bias, fueld by the inciting Dawn Staley types, instead deprives (black) girls of this chance. . . Don't believe me. Look at Hannah Stulke, a good but not great player, and how Iowan's love and support her. Look at Kachine Alexander, a great but not all-time player from a few years back, who is still loved and engaged with Iowans even though she moved back to her family in the Carolinas. This is all fabricated racial incitement from the coasties and we have never bought into it, never will But also, if people try to bully us they will find that Iowans never back down - just like Clark.
@@EquidusRamalo-ny4wl LOL David Portnoy has never been a voice of reason about anything. He just sells narratives that you find comforting. Step outside your little bubble, kiddo.
Thank you for continuing to be a true voice of reason in all the madness. Its so refeshing to hear an actual nuanced take that isn't buried in extemist political nonsense ❤ 🙏
I'm Asian and just watched Womens ball last March 2023.I lm into mens bball my whole life. NBA, Euroleague, Fiba and my local bball league here. In that short time I learned that Wball fans (Americans) talked bout everything except hoops. Learned that y'all are obsessed with race war, soft & easily offended by everything. Essays on X videos on YT bout race but not hoops.Just focus on the sport ffs.
Nothing CC said was wrong. By the way I'm only able to see you on my feed because of Caitlin Clark. Did she make an impact? Being I don't even follow basketball I would say hell yes
I wish I could double sub & like this vid. This is the best take on all this CC drama I have heard so far. I have been saying the same thing. It's ok to like a player that you relate to. There is nothing wrong with liking CC, AR, AP, or anybody else because they "look" like you. It's not racist unless you hate the people that don't "look" like you. TY for having common sense!
Quita you rock!! Thanks for intelligent commentary on this subject. Let's just get back to playing the great game of basketball. I can support all these talented women ballers. 2025 should be a great year for wnba. Props to everyone. But yes, just my opinion, CC did deserve athlete of the year. That is not a league award.
I just want to watch her play ball and enjoy it like she did in college. She is my sports entertainment, I love everything about her game, I wish people could leave it at that. She doesn’t choose to be anything more than an ambassador for women’s sports, and I’m good with that.
I trust that most people have good intentions. However, the type of language warfare being waged in the public sphere doesn't lead to good connections. Hyperbole, ad hominem, strawman, red herrings, you name it. . . With Clark we've heard "white savior", "never won anything", "have to get on my knees", "privilege", "you need to", "avatar", "step aside", "center", "heteronormative", "bow down", "marketable" are terms all being used to control dialogue and others, not to share meaningful connection.
There is so Much CRAP out there its unbelievable. Opinions about why someone watches the wnba etc. etc. MY Story. I am a White dude..(Which to me should make NO DIFFERENCE, but to some people it evidently does) Im 63 Years old. I used to watch Iowa Hawkeye basketball 30 Years ago. For whatever reason, Been a straight football fan and quit watching. Fast foward 30 or so years to----------2.5 Years ago my wife came home from work and said there was a final four game on and the Iowa Hawkeyes were in it. I watched. Never heard of Caitlin Clark. I watched and they beat South Carolina. Then watched them lose to LSU. Then started watching the next college season because the games were FUN to watch and Caitlin was fun to watch. (More fun for me than men's BB)Then followed her to the WNBA, watched because I liked it. Caitlin was fun to watch again in the WNBA.... If Caitlin were a black women, I would watch the same and I WOULD be just as proud that she was from my home state of IOWA. PERIOD end of Story. I am not crazy about what Caitlin said, HOWEVER, she has a right to say it and she didn't say she hated anyone, hated america etc. As far as the privileged crap.....Many people are privileged, for many different reasons, OF all races and creeds. After watching The Fever, Personally got a Kelsey Mitchell Shirt. Cause she is awesome and I became a BIG fan...., as Many of the other players I have discovered. So, To hell with all the race crap. Watch Basketball. I don't Watch Quita cause she is Black, Because she is smart, and the best and also REALLY Cares about WBB. I dont agree with everything she says, But Most and will always consider what she says because she KNOWS WBB and I do NOT! Still learning............ Anyway, Thanks for all that you do Quita....Point is, We need to LET THEM PLAY. I am not a fan of the WNBA Politics (Nothing to do with Race or sexuality, Just them being pushy about things and many fans and players seem to hate the right). PS. I am not a big fan of the right either......, But Quita is right, People should be able to think what they want within reason without being judged...... I enjoy the game, Why would I quit watching because of that? Also, Quita I Love that you usually don't bring up this crap, I understand every now and then you have to address the elephant in the room. Not the there isnt racism and discussing it is crap, Just I like what Morgan Freeman says when asked a question about racism.......QUOTE.....""""Stop talking about it. I’m going to stop calling you a white man. And I’m going to ask you to stop calling me a black man. I know you as Mike Wallace. You know me as Morgan Freeman. You’re not going to say, “I know this white guy named Mike Wallace.” Hear what I’m saying?” Peace to all and respect to all opinions
Thank you for sharing truth, Quita. Some people are in denial about their true feelings about people of other races, so they place their feelings about the matter onto everyone else. Baby, we believe there’s enough grace and prosperity for all of us, not just one race of people. My heart really breaks for CC, because all she wants to do is play ball and grow the league for all players. But some people don’t have grace for everyone. And those people, I try to stay far away from.
Thank you thank you thank you for your wise perspective. I love listening to your take on the WNBA and especially this particular video which seems so nuanced and sane.
Quita I loved this episode, what you speak of in regard to the attitude of some WNBA players is refreshing. We are all, on both sides, tired of the racist narrative. Very well done!
The NIL deal is good for the 4 teams selected, but the downside is they are already teams from powerhouse Universities that can choose the best players from around the country, thus the same teams dominate the NCAA each year which means there is no incentive for the bottom-of-the-table teams to be able to truly have an impact.
I'm happy CC said this because we now know who CC's true fans are. My two little girls who love CC and wear her jerseys everywhere ask me what the commission is over the hatred of CC and I try to explain but they're still too young to understand. All they know is they love CC like I do and cannot wait to watch her again. To hell with these losers who weren't fans in the first place.
Hopefully you can explain to your girls the details of the negativity displayed by social media with Clark ranging from the criticisms about her on-court complaining to referees, the semifinal NCAA game in Dallas with the "flagging off" of Raven Johnson from the three point range on defense, her alleged lack of any defensive playing ability, her nonexistent championships in high school or college or wins during the playoffs in her rookie WNBA season, even though three times she had won international competition youth championships, just for starters???
Oh man, I missed another live. I could have listened to you while I was doing my cleaning. Oh well, I'll catch the replay. It's always good seeing you.
Athlete of the year is about impact not who's the best. That being said I like that she took the high road and gave veteran players their props. And NOBODY can say that CC didn't have a huge impact not just on women's basketball but golf and sports in general this year.🎉
All of you are wrong. It’s does not mean about race and or players talent. If a player averages 30 points a game, the fans don’t care if the player has a bad attitudes and negative all the time. Caitlin is talent and has a positive attitude. She’s gentle, generous and kind to people, never say anything negative about anything. She connects with the fans by cheering with the fans, sign autographs, help people at Habitat for Humanity’s, visits to children’s hospital. She won the Athlete of the Year by her performance on the court and off the court. She deserve it! Aja can score many points and complains and play the victim. The fans are tired of listening to all the crap and have no reason to watch her play. The fans don’t have to buy her merchandise either.
The moment A’ja made those comments she lost me. You were born to wealthier parents than Caitlin’s middle class upbringing. Nobody is trying to hear your skin color is a handicap. Tiger and Serena are LIVING PROOF black athletes can dominate a white-led sport and be ACCEPTED and be PAID for it. You’re playing in a black dominated sport and you’re telling bc you’re black you have it bad? Nah get outta here with the bull junk
Yeah, you don’t know what you’re talking about. You are making a judgement about A’ja, who you never knew existed, because you didn’t like her comment. That’s it. You don’t know A’ja’s fans or any fans outside of Caitlin’s. That’s fine, honestly. You don’t know what the Aces do or their fanbase.
Temi you just made many fans for your new team. Its a shame to see you go but this is how it goes, you are bringing a fan base with you a perfect example of how Caitlin has brought the leage up and created more fans to an expansion team to see temi play on a new team that never saw her play befor this year
Thank you for your comprehensive commentary on the athlete of the year reporting. Great work! IMO Caitlin Clark was commenting that, if she was not white, her fan base might look different.
I love your take and agree. I love the playing , and am learning about other players. They are human beings and play a game i can't lol. The skill and the passion that Caitlin shows , uplifting her teammates and simply enjoying the game of basketball. That is why and what i enjoy too. I so love your "Caitlin is not a political mascot" Nice one
"Privilege" to me means not having experienced the same difficulties or problems others may have for what ever reason. Caitlin is damned if she does, damned if she doesn't. There are those out there who will use her words/lack of words and/or actions/lack of action to push their own narrative and agendas. I have no problem with what she said; she is aware of social inequities. And like you said, we don't know the questions. She has shown herself to be smart, kind, generous and a generational athlete. I hope she continues to speak with her game and tunes out the noise.
that's not what privilege means, we can't all have our own definitions or society fails. Privilege refers to allowances reserved beyond the norm. That's all. If the majority have an allowance, it is not a privilege, but an expectation. This is why the expected experiences for a majority population (such as middle class people in the USA or poor people in China) are not privileges.
Very good analysis Quita. I was wondering how long it would take for Caitlin to say or do something that her fans object to. Fame can be a double-edged sword sometimes.
I wish it was all about basketball but then there's players making political comments during interviews, and then obviously the media asking political questions, and its fine if thats what they want to do, it's cool. If the wcba wants to be political that's fine its cool for them. But then, we also have players asking CC to be more political and when she does say something it's not enough. It's imposible to ask fans and the media to not make it political when you have PLAYERS making it political. Do I have to repeat that to make my point? CC has been nothing but great with her praise to others. I just wanna watch good basketball. Caitlin just wants to play and have fun.
It’s so tiring to hear about CC because she’s white. I’m so sick of hearing about it. I’m a black woman. No one ever says Simone Biles is a popular as she is because she’s black, it’s because she’s the best of the best, an amazing athlete who we love to watch. I’ve been watching Caitlin since she was in NCAA and I can well say, I love and appreciate her as a spectacular talented athlete that has a something what’s the French saying? It doesn’t mean I dislike Angel, Aja or anyone else, because my favorite other player after Caitlin are Kelsey Mitchel and Naphessa Collier. It’s not an either or thing or a race thing. Just watch, and like football, pick your team and support them. It doesn’t add or take away from the other players that Caitlin is more popular than others.
I am so grateful you broke down the words CC22 used when she was interviewed for the award. CC22 is a 3-time scholastic award winner and knows what words mean. I am very sure she was very calculated when she responded to questions the Times asked. I am very aware people played telephone with her responses and used her answers were used for each person's personal gain and you really broke it down even some things I did not see. Thank you for your attention and commentary I watch whenever I see you.
CC FANS did NOT want her to ENDORCE ANY Political side, on the contrary. It was the OTHER side that INSISTED she "Speak Out". Her Fans just wanted her to play basketball.
@@eveyrapp2078 Well they can still watch her play basketball. I am not sure I understand why she can’t speak on anything or endorse anyone. Also, she’s 22! She still has lots to learn & grow. Would they also be upset if she had endorsed Trump? Just an example. Why can’t she speak on her values or beliefs?
I don't need Clark to speak on her political views but when people are spewing racism against fellow WNBA players I think it's important for white WNBA players, especially high profile ones like Clark, to also speak up. Otherwise, it's almost like they're complicit in my opinion. Ever read Pastor Neimoller's poem "First They Came"?
So many things you said I agreed with. Yep, the rookie/veteran dynamic is the real thing with the pressure Caitlin had. But now both A'ja and CC have made direct references to race so those kernels are out there for people to jump on. I like how you point out none of this means that the players were hating on CC for her race. Yes, it would be useful to see the full context of the exchange. "kind of" - yep. That's an interesting way for her to say it. Your commentary is really thoughtful. I like how you bring out the positive and uplifting aspects of all this.
Really enjoy all your content, you’re very levelheaded, fair, and knowledgeable. I’ve been thinking the same things that you spoke about on the Time magazine article. I love Caitlin’s poise and personality, and the way see plays ball. Agree that race plays a part of every players fan base, but isn’t the main reason for Caitlin’s fans. White stars like Brianna Stewart, Sabrina Ionesco, and Kelsey Plum haven’t captured the white fans attention like Caitlin. I enjoy watching all the WNBA teams, the league would be so much better if they got rid of the activism component.
NIL is only for US citizen players. If you are from Canada, France, Ghana, Australia, etc..... they are not allowed to earn anything..... at least last year that was the case. I hope that has changed since there were and are a lot of amazing overseas players making NCAA sports great!!!
Ps. There has been a lot of misrepresentation about what Caitlin Clark said or did not say during her Time Magazine Athlete of the Year interview. Whether or not Caitlin threw the woke crowd a 🦴 or not, the sheer excitement, the pleasure, the thrills and anticipation that came with following Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever this past 2024 WNBA season was so great that it overwhelms anything that Caitlin said, or could have said, or might have said, or wanted to say, or thought she said, or even forgot that she thought about saying. None of that has pushed me one iota away from my support and appreciation for Caitlin Clark - her talent on the court, her coolness off the court whether or not in front of a microphone. I have not changed my opinion about her nor my support of her. I have no plans to do so anytime soon. Not even the late author William Faulkner could have written a run-on sentence like the one that I just wrote. If you made it through that sentence, then you owe yourself a donut.😋 Caitlin's play has provided way too much fun and excitement in 2024 for me to just suddenly up and walk away over her attempting to win over a few lost souls. I can now better understand the meaning of "addiction". I might owe an apology to all of the crack addicts of the world who I have criticized over the years, i.e., when you gotta have it, you gotta have it! Go Caitlin and the 2025 Indiana Fever!!!!
The WNBA deserves bashing. It's toxic. Clark endorsed the toxicity. I'm disappointed because I hoped that she could be a catalyst for change. In the later interview, Clark supported the entire article. That includes the objectionable parts. She specifically mentioned that only one group should be singled out for promotion. She didn't say all players. Why can't all players be given the same treatment? Clark validated the progressive political beliefs. She is now a political mascot. I'm tired of hearing the "you were never a real fan" garbage. It's like saying that the people who stopped buying Bud Light never liked it.
Regarding Unrivaled’s $28 million Series A investment round, assuming they sold 20% - 40% of their cap table (which is the typical range of Series A rounds), this would imply they raised this money on an implied market valuation of $70 million to $140 million. Not to crazy considering they already have multi million tv and advertising deals in place that serve as fairly secure revenue streams.
I don’t know what to make of this NIL stuff yet. It seems like college basketball is just some developmental minor league except it’s worse because the best schools have effectively unlimited cap space in the sense that certain schools can help players garner a theoretically unlimited amount of NIL money (effectively salary) by going to certain schools vs others (this NIL tournament is the perfect example). The competitive disparity between teams is bad enough but might only get worse. I’ve seen accounts of #1 recruit Alyssa Chavez requesting a guaranteed $1 million in NIL money to play in college. This despite accomplishing absolutely nothing at the college level-not really pay for performance, huh. What I can see potentially happening is that the new CBA contract that will come with increased salary caps from the new tv deal might include allowances for players to leave school before reaching 22 years of age. If companies are going to pay $$$ to sponsor players, might as well do it while they play in your league because that increased media exposure from advertisements should in principle transfer to increased media exposure, tv viewership, and attendance for your games (vs college games). I can see the new WNBA CBA allowing players like Juju and Hidalgo to leave earlier than they currently can.
We have to discuss marketing. If every sports channel and media head promoted say Aja instead, then the numbers would shift. They made it hard to even find and watch some games
Sports channels and media are not in the business of marketing. As someone who has worked in news media and in marketing, this narrative frustrates me to no end because it misunderstands how modern media functions. Journalists are no longer the gatekeepers of information - the internet has exploded that system. Journalists nowadays report on what is already popular. Walk into a national newsroom and you’ll see reporters whose whole job is to follow Instagram. You’ll see large screens just scrolling through Twitter alerts. Media follows stories that get clicks. Clark was selling out arenas well before she got the coverage she got in college. A huge part of this is NIL because schools and sponsors are incentivized to market (using marketing and not media) college players in a way that makes stars of athletes that in the past would have simply been popular to those following the sport. If A’ja had been born six years later, we might be having a different discussion, but that’s not on the media. But to give Caitlin her flowers, A’ja wasn’t breaking records in college the way Clark did.
@@matthancock952 what am I riding the fence about? I said what I said in this video…

💯
As a black woman if you don’t call out the unjust you are just as guilty as those that are being unjust! But I will continue to watch but I am disappointed!
Aja, black privilege
There's a cottage industry of youtubers and podcasters who use and abuse Caitlin Clark's name, pro and con. Months ago I skimmed a bunch of them, found that most are inarticulate, use deceptive headlines, and advertise far more than they deliver. It was tiresome, boring for the most part, but I did the homework and moved on. For the most part, these sites and pages are brain-deadening, a waste of time. There are very few basketball sites that are intelligent, useful, factual, and thought provoking. Your is one of them, Quita. Stay true, and thank you.
I think a lot of those podcasters/you tubers generate content via AI, which gives me extra incentive to avoid them.
All for clicks!
Black and white sports too that dude is ridiculous
This is the most intelligent break down of Clark and the article on all of the podcast I have seen. Thanks for keeping it real
Candace Owens basically reiterated this lol.

Yes! Yes! Yes! You are absolutely right. Thank you! Those people were NEVER fans of Caitlin’s talent and skills as a basketball player.
You're coolest old white dude ever.
Always appreciate the support Rick!!
None of us can until there is a level playing field for all and reparations to the lineage of enslaved Africa’s to America!
After listening to the video in its entirety, I must commend you for a job well done. I believe that there is nothing wrong with appreciating a player with whom you relate, but you must also appreciate the game and skills of others, even if you don't view the world precisely as they do.
PREACH!!! Well said 💯💯
Imagine just watching CC the basketball player and moving on with your day. Just imagine that.

What a crazy concept @@QuitaLovesSports
It’s what I do lol, I’ve never found it difficult. People are nuts.
Thanks!
Thank you!!!
Thank you! You are always the voice of reason Quita! 100% agree with you.
Wow! You nailed the CC Time article/interview and the absurd reactions. Great job.
Thanks for the insightful commentary, and thanks for not spewing hatred like other commentators.
Thanks for this WBB Weekly Quita - we appreciate you!
Great breakdown of the TIME magazine situation!
@@analogee6858 Because Clark isn't a racialist, obviously!
Quita you are very smart. The wisdom you showed on this topic was very educational.
This is exactly how I took it. Thank you for a sound mind. So refreshing to hear.
Glad it was helpful!
Nicely explained to many people who treat Caitlin Clark as their avatar.
I love that you took the emotion out of this topic and just dealt in facts. Great job! Keep up the great work!!!
Your insight is on point.
Race doesn't put the Ball in the Basket, race doesn't pass the Ball to Teammates , race doesn't sign autographs,,,Energy, Talent and Good Sportsmanship make a Difference
I love this title so much. You are always a rational voice of reason ❤
😊 thank you
You're being apologist, Aja, DeJonai, and others have directly derided Clark for not jumping on the race-focus train.

Fantastic video, Thank you

Great! Great! Take on the CC situation. This video in its entirety was fire!!!!!
Love, love, love the intro!
Thank you thank you thank you for your wise perspective. I love listening to your take on the WNBA and especially this particular video which seems so nuanced and sane.
Love your breakdown and analysis of the whole CC’s Athlete of the Year discussion
Quita I loved this episode, what you speak of in regard to the attitude of some WNBA players is refreshing. We are all, on both sides, tired of the racist narrative. Very well done!
Excellent job as always Quita!
God I love your break down so glad I ran across you last year
Well said!!!!❤
I agree with everything you said. Kudos!!
@
Lol Gregory. Don't even try.
Oh man, I missed another live. I could have listened to you while I was doing my cleaning. Oh well, I'll catch the replay. It's always good seeing you.
Well-said! I disagree with a lot of things Charles Barkley says. But I like him as a player and commentator.
Athlete of the year is about impact not who's the best. That being said I like that she took the high road and gave veteran players their props. And NOBODY can say that CC didn't have a huge impact not just on women's basketball but golf and sports in general this year.🎉
Great video
@ then Aja should stop complaining
Very good commentary! Well done young lady.
CC is a class act.
Temi you just made many fans for your new team. Its a shame to see you go but this is how it goes, you are bringing a fan base with you a perfect example of how Caitlin has brought the leage up and created more fans to an expansion team to see temi play on a new team that never saw her play befor this year
love the intro 🥰
Quita is going in today. We are going to eat tonight boys!
The only sane commentary
CC is so above the jealousy, haters, etc. people don’t understand how little they are
Thank you for your comprehensive commentary on the athlete of the year reporting.
To be fair, if it was Draymond Green, they might ask if he did it on purpose, but only if it was Draymond 😂.
You are so right!
Whatever Quita says I co-sign. No one does it better than her.
@@SeshatPG82 you have a really good point
Aaaah, did that comment actually Upset someone's Sensitive Disposition,,, Boo hoo hoo ,,,She didn't need to wear the Black Dress either,,❤️
Do you really think that most people who hate because of race will plainly say it?
If you made it through that sentence, then you owe yourself a donut.😋
Caitlin's play has provided way too much fun and excitement in 2024 for me to just suddenly up and walk away over her attempting to win over a few lost souls.
