I've been watching this channel for years and would say this might be the most diverse and cool selection(s?) pretty impressive but not pretentious or overbearing, great job well done.
Me: *Expecting to have some shoegaze, rock and post rock recomendations* DIIV: *Actually gives better music recomendations of genres that i like and i love it*
Jared O Lantern so you’re saying not famous = pretentious? I don’t see why people who like less known music have to be called pretentious, it’s just like calling people who like popular music posers
@@spoonnoise8332 Agreed. Actually, I think the word "pretentious" itself should be banned from the conversation when it comes to art, because what is art if not self-expression, e.g. presenting your inner world to the outer one, and to say about Anybodys works of art that its pretentious is pointless, at the very least.
yeah, used to call them "deev", but I learnt about the correct pronunciation when I read a little about the band's history, and yeah, their previous name was Dive
Yup - I liked their debut to an extent, but didnt care for the sophomore at all. However, the instant I heard Taker I was intrigued enough to give the other tracks a chance. At first didnt care for Blankenship but it has really grown on me, and in the end I have the Tri-color LP - no regrets. Most of the songs have that exact shoegaze sound I love, and the songwriting itself is quite good overall, so yeah - on of my faves of the past year as well. I must say, though, the surprise Whirr record that came out about the same time is The shoegaze album of 2019 for me.
Met Rob Pollard backstage at Reading Festival (1995). Didn't know any GBV music then, as I was only 15, but he was such a cool guy. More like a school teacher/your uncle, than a rockstar - down to earth and unpretentious. Bought us beers and chatted to us whilst all these famous people also playing the Friday (Beasties, Courtney Love, Billy Corgan, Beck) were walking around being famous and swooned over.
@@CelticMudkip Agreed - I really wish Broderick might bring that sound back at some point. Walk on Water and Friends are Evil are some of the best doomgaze songs ever.
I would have thought they were listening to shoegaze, dream pop, goth and post punk and I discovered an hip hop fanatic, a jazz head and a 60s 70s psychedelia krautrock lover. That makes them even more great!
Bee Thousand is one of my favourite albums - great pick. Criminally underrated! So many good songs - Smothered in Hugs, Tractor Rape Chain, I am a Scientist, Echos Myron... I could go on
@@Kkidzz hardcore fans yes! I meant by the general public - it's lesser known than Crooked Rain Crooked Rain by Pavement and other such indie albums from the 90s I think.
that was flavorful! at the core of all the dissonance are these melancholic songs, hell yes. a perfect description of jesu, and that holds true for diiv's music in some respect. you get these two different environments but in either instance there's a gloomy song at the heart. it's awesome to know there are hip-hop and bleepy music influences alike, running thru diiv's blood.
Great music taste! love this band! Deceiver was one of my favorite albums of 2019. love what they picked up except Grimes. I'm glad they also picked up Jesu, Bowery Electric and Meat puppets. They are amazing.
Everyone looks like they are going to make Trainspotting 3
TIL there is a Trainspotting 2
@@willcantor5720 It's OK but you didnt miss anything not seeing it earlier
www.imdb.com/title/tt2763304/
Will Cantor it basically doesnt exist tho
@Oliver Eales Yes, it called t2. based on the book porno by Irvine welsh.
Dude in the beanie has really good hip hop taste
He shoulda got E. 1999 Eternal tho
"Hi, we're DIIV. We're here to do that drywall job."
Each member had completely different genres. Such a wide variety between all the members
Woahhhhhh
culTuRE
Such varied taste for a band that writes one song over and over again lol
Love them tho
You should check out their Podcast!!!

Andrew, if you are reading any of the comments, I want to say thanks for turning me on to Your Old Droog! What a great artist!
These are brilliant picks.
you misspelled pretentious.

Many of their picks were innovative artists.
I love this band so much, I really really enjoyed their last project! I play it everyday before work!
Great choices No wonder this band is so good.
Probably everyone: Aaah, so that is how you pronounce DIIV.
yes, yes.. all those years of calling them by there initials, just D-I-I-V y'all
Been making jokes about how it's pronounced "Dave" for too long.
yeah, used to call them "deev", but I learnt about the correct pronunciation when I read a little about the band's history, and yeah, their previous name was Dive
I think the mojority of people knew how to pronounce their name before. :)
I said Div...like Divet...except Div.
Thanks, Zach! Loved Bowery Electric's Lushlife
"deceiver" was one of my absolute favorites! fantastic, darting guitars, hazy and dreamy yet so loud and in your face, but soothing!
"hejira"

Sergej Lovrekovic odličan je al meni je oshin najbolji!
Diiv is the best, so glad to see them on this finally.
Love when these Alternative dudes showing their favorite rap album, even Kevin Shields like hiphop at some point (public enemy)
Shields was also into the House/Acid House/Jungle/DnB scenes as well.
i clicked out of curiosity because i really like DIIV and now i'm on my way to listen to all of these albums
Cole looks like Pasha Antipov from the Dr. Zhivago (1965) film.
DIIV’s bags are a whole different universe of great records.
andrew is one of my favorite guitar players and its really cool to see that hes a cool dude too
Jay looks weird without Silent Bob next to him
He's chilling with Mr Robot though.
Ha ha
You guys are SO wonderful. Please never go away!
Bowery electric are great 👌🏼
Love DIIV. They got me into Guided By Voices.
It's always fun when a band's music sounds exactly as you think it will after you've looked at them

I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS FOREVER
mahargllednif same! So happy it’s here!
Jesu, hell yeah man. Must have been looking for Conqueror album? Early Jesu is best though
Self titled is the best. Some of it is cry-worthy beautiful.
@@CelticMudkip True, their best in my opinion. "Heart Ache" is also poignantly beautiful
@@CelticMudkip Agreed - I really wish Broderick might bring that sound back at some point. Walk on Water and Friends are Evil are some of the best doomgaze songs ever.
@@19RaxR91 friends are evil is one of the best songs period
Conqueror is beautiful
Love Pentangle!
Damn cole looks so different
In a bad way though
Olivier Dubé no yes
Olivier Dubé He’s healthier and, in a way, happier now. What’s so wrong about that?
The Philip Glass! The double time signature

i haven't heard these guys before but they sent me though quite a rabbit hole in spotify

I bought "Young Man" last time I was at Amoeba for those who know...Colin is a great musician!
I thoroughly enjoyed this video. So captivating and informative...awesome selections/awesome band.

I got to say...every pick did it for me. I wish I was on the bus with these guys.
art bros
Thumbs up for Bowery Electric!
I like that the guy who grabs the hip-hop is the only guy who doesn't look like he's into hip-hop. :) Cool picks all around.
He does look like he's into 90s hip hop, tho.
Looks like Diplo
Bowery Electric, nice:)
