This video makes a lot more sense once you learn that Stu never had a record player until the pandemic lol
It's pretty cool that he brought those books though
Everybody is buying all of these super obscure records and Stu is just over here like “I got a cool shirt and some scary books."
Ay, at least he’s not a scummy colorblind kid in mun
Sp00ky books
He did talk about fragile tho which is an amazing album
a fragile shirt from yes is pretty rare
That I haven’t read lol
they went to a shop that specializes in music and Stu decided to get books
I love that Stu didn't even get any records lol, he's so funny
KaoruKat it had to be set who the unique one was. That’s the way he sells himself to the audience, I believe.
And he fucks with Fragile! Great prog rock album.
@@TheBrowniemusic its the truth and i dislike to believe it
Brown Emm I don’t think that’s how he sells himself I think that’s just how he is. You can find super old interviews and clips him before he got any fame and he acts exactly the same.
@@podtherod9304 what you said 👍👍
Love this for many reasons, but one is that Cavs (the drummer) is talking about mastering the double kick. Fast forward 2 years and they just released a thrash metal album where he absolutely nails it! So excited to see them live TODAY in Asheville, NC!!
Just bought this rrcord todsy. He killed it.
im seeing them in 10 days!!!!
Aye, I was at that show!
Came here to write this EXACT comment, almost verbatim. Fast forward two years and we have the best thrash metal album certainly of 2019, featuring some kiiiiiiiller double bass. Amazing.
fast forward 5 years and hes doing shit like Flamethrower wtf
2:59
"everything is all related I think"
"yeah definitely"
gizzverse confirmed
can we pronounce it "jizzverse"?
@@gracemilstein8839 No
It's funny to see that they have quite different tastes and that each of their influences (metal, african music, flute, 60's british rock, jazz...) kinda mix up and result in their music. I feel like every member is really involved in the creation of every song and bring his own touch.
nice Floating Coffin avatar my dude
you got some turds on yer nose dude.
yeah, pretty much as it is with most of bands :)
Thee Oh Fucking Sees
I feel like a lot of bands crutch on one or two members for songwriting/drive in the band and it's something special when thats not true.
Everyone else: "I got some obscure 60s music."
Stu: "Book about Satan. Seems like fun."
Consural silly atheisr
and that really sums up the sound of the band too lol. all of these influences, including the scifi, lovecraft, and satanic stories, contribute haha
King gizzard needs to make a king gizzardy style metal album
Well are you in luck
Does thrash work?
Pls make a wish for a second metal record
WELL THEN
You absolute madman
i met stu at splendour in the grass this year and he was wearing that yes shirt yew
when I met him he was wearing the very same shirt he's wearing in this video
wig out
Dude same here, so tight
Stu's picks make so much sense
6:39
Good news, he figured out how to work a double-kick drum everyone!
Michael got a crush on Cate Le Bon
6:40 Its awsome seeing Cavs talking about aspiering to master the doubble kick drum and now beeing able to deliver some absolute amazing double kick drum solos.
You might like a band called The Doublejumps if you like KGLW!
thought the same now after having petrodragonic apocalypse
Stu likes progressive metal, Yes and into HP Lovecraft and horror fiction.
I would turn for him.
Who me?
What the duck does that mean?
looks like you already have bud
welcome to bisexuality my dude
Honestly Stu showing off the books was probably the most interesting part cause I feel like you can clearly see his influences in his song writing through those book choices and it’s awesome to see when artists pull from different medias for inspiration
Looking at the breadth of their songs' subject matter and the depth of the lyrics it's clear that Stu is really well read. KG is such a fun "intellectual" band that doesn't take themselves too seriously and it's so refreshing
So Stu's appreciation of HP Lovecraft makes me think MOTU was mostly his brainchild
a lot of King Gizz is mostly Stu's brainchild.
Fave Gizz album tbh
Ummmm.... obviously
The last part of the album also has a bit of an Isaac Asimov vibe too.
The boys: *pulls out literally any album ever released*
Me: Oh of course they like this record, it's in their sound
This is a good message for young bands...... keep an open mind , listen to everything and read .... it is all inter related and relevant.... Stu's girlfriend has the best taste.....
“Tryna get that double kick down”
Infest The Rats’ Nest: I guess that worked out
lmao yeah that comment from Cavs aged beautifully.
Now even more with petro
@@hovnousek1962 his work on petro is unreal
Well Cavs came through with the double kick in the end.
Love hearing cavs talk about having trouble getting the double-kick groove down, then fast-forward to now with him absolutely fucking _tearing_ away on PDA
Dude I came here to comment the same exact thing
"i assure you i was there before all the hipsters" - every hipster ever
GrungeRockGod that was the joke
JACK You suck, McBain!
Yeah. Right. Because we're all 20-years-old. There was a first wave of interest in that stuff in the 90s, so...I feel that statement. But I'm no hipster because I don't fucking care what the next guy listens to.
And how much did you pay for your rock and roll t-shirt
That proves you were there
That you heard of them first?
-John McCrea
i laughed so loud the cat ran away...then i realized i am old...recall this stuff in the late 70's...stuff we put on to see who was really cool at the late part of an all night party. check out Mahmoud Ahmed. then drift into
Fela Kuti. and slide into Ali Farka Touré. it pleased me greatly to see the resurgence of this music in the 90s' and perhaps even now?
5 albums in one year. These guys are kings.
They’re doing it again in 2022

Eric's moustache is warm and welcoming

Can definitely hear The Kinks in Pipe-Eye!
immediately thought the same.
I swear that King Gizz is the best thing to come out of Australia in a long time also the girl my friend bones she cool as well
Do they still bone?
no
Courtney Barnett is pretty good too ;)
check out The Chats as well
Hiatus Kaiyote for neo soul-funk-jazzy-hipster fusion, love them!
king scissored and the jizzard blizzard
Juice _ best comment
DEAD
I feel like each member takes turn trying to grow that same thin little mustache. Cavs is rockin' it in this video this time
Now Thee Oh Sees!
Meh
Johan Escobar "Meh", boy you got a Floating Coffin pic
Really?
DO THEE OH SEES! GET DWYER IN THERE
lol no
Dude, Ultimate Spinach. Mind Flowers is a psychedelic masterpiece.
You ain't lyin. Also ballad of the hip death goddess.
one of my all-time favourite songs
Great album but the band were such copycats.
Lmclean89 i can hear foxy lady by Jimi Hendrix on the track they previewed
Love Behold and see, it's my favorite vinyl!
This whole Amoeba jig is just like music school for addicts!! I have learned so much about artists I have never heard of. It's great!!
eric is a national treasure and should be protected at all costs
You didn’t protect him enough!
Sadly that comment didn't age well :(
F
Well I have some sad news
I would love to see this, but with directors at a DVD/video store.
check out the criterion collection series with directors and actors choosing criterion films
Colin Lee I will totally check that out!
We've had quite a few directors on the show over the years and many do talk about movies: th-cam.com/play/PLjtg-TKQBIhv-v7CG7zm5LH0l-C6l16_n.html
Colin Lee's recommendation is great too. The Criterion Collection closet DVD picks series is awesome: th-cam.com/video/3ubQAunfwdo/w-d-xo.html
+amoeba you guys should get more director / actor / screenwriter
9:08 is literally the Mind Fuzz cover art
Mezling yeaa! wow that cover is a straigth up similarity! still cool they had THIS as inspiration tho
mixed with chameleon world
The IIYMF cover is from an old game though
The art for that album is actually ripped straight from an old Commodore 64 game called Fortress
King Carrot and the Parrot Ferret
Yes! Finally! My favourite band at the moment, maybe of all time.
This surprised the hell out of me that they mentioned Yes and my favorite Kinks album back to back! Awesome!
I think face to face is my favorite kinks album, kinks kintroversy might be second
At 1:47 tezeta is literally the genre that guy plays. Favorite song off of Brunswick
Stu talking about TOOL and YES just explained so many things about their music influences.
Ameaba, thank you very much.
You're welcome. Thanks for watching!
So interesting to know that Stu is into metal, first time I heard The Lord of Lightning I could feel some heavy metal vocal influences
Crush on all of them
The editing in this video is great. It's definately got better.
Awesome! Thanks!
Ambrose : fiSTfUL oF LoVE
Eric : *visible discomfort*
I was looking for this comment! Haha
Love how Lucas is wearing Parquet Courts merch.
Almost 2 years to the day... Cavs mastered the double-kick
"I don't believe in God, so I don't fear Satan." Greatest quote ever!
If Stu doesn’t believe in God then who was in the rythm???
The Devil
:o !!!!!
+Florian Geyer he then sped up
Stu doesn't believe in God because he knows God and how much of a pricky liar he is
It was the r a t t l e s n a k e s
omgg he wore that yes tshirt on stage at primavera sound barcelona
Fragile! I love Yes so much.
stu's picks especially just make so much sense given the band's themes and lyrics lmao, and their forays into metal
Idk what I expected the members of King Gizzard to look like before seeing this, but this looks about right
"Everything's all related, I think"
-Stu Mackenzie
Prove that the Gizzverse is real
GIZZVERSE CONFIRMED
6:56 ...and he did, he controlled the double kick drum on Infest the rats nest :v
And fucking KILLED IT
wow, I'm on love with this band and their taste
Heard of em only a year ago, they come through Denver pretty frequently...finally,gave them a chance a month ago.Great Group!!!🤘😎👍
Cavs definitely mastered that double kick at their new song "Planet B", good job!
Oh dude, when Memories of Green came in during the Philip K. Dick section at 9:23, I got INTENSE shivers. Whoever edited this video is a G.
And 6 years later here we are. Got that double kick down!
Ambrose makes me doubt about my sexuality man
The more fluid the sexuality, the more fluids...
its ok, everyone is a little bit gay for ambrose
he is pretty cute, not gonna lie
oh, I wondered if I was the only one
Dolan _ as a woman he makes me feel so straight
Gizzard & BBNG collab is a must
Drummer: “yeah I haven’t gotten great at double kick”
Planet B: yeah let me introduce myself
Infest the Rats' Nest confirms both Michael's love for Philthy drumming and mastering his Double Bass skills
Best rock band in the world right now, no exceptions
And they only got better after this
Arthur by the Kinks is one of the more underrated albums of all time.
So happy to see guided by voices and yes as influences of king gizzard! Fucking love these bands, game of pricks is one of my favorites songs from guided by voices such deep and small song! Listens everyday and shows the influence of lofi in king gizzard! Love your work keep the good work
You might like a band called The Doublejumps if you like KGLW!
dude that ultimate spinach album. also that cate le bon album has one of the most beautiful songs ever writen "are you with me now?"
You might like a band called The Doublejumps if you like KGLW!
I was so hoping he'd pronounce Moog correctly. (Like vogue) That's rare.
Still, it's so cool to see the 'separate ingredients' that combine to be the Gizz we know and love!
I haven't watched this yet and I know it's my fav episode so far
Great video. The Tool influence in their recent records is noticeable.
Yeah, Polygon.. Love it
So Michael was able to master the double bass finally and here we are a year later with Infest the Rat's Nest. Thrash hard, King Gizz
>"All the cool-kid hipsters are listening to it"
>Is categorically in a group of cool-kid hipsters
Solid recommendations for tunes. Guided by Voices sounds dope.
Musos are not hipsters, they are musos, always have been, always will be. Hipsters maybe trying to emulate aspects of musos but its contrived.
Chip yard Just a bit of banter mate, don't worry about it.
Kid hipsters? they're my generation, all in the late 20's.
I think he was just 'avin' a laff
> YOU'RE FUNNY
BadBadnotGood collab when?
hell yes! a beautiful bunch of human beings. they make be feel good to be alive!
about two hours ago someone suggested i give this band a listen. on it. really digging what i'm hearing. about two songs ago i thought: now i know where the children of hawkwind went... stumbled on this and really laughed that he picked motorhead. so old am i, most of my still going to shows friends know motorhead, but not hawkwind. if you don't know hawkwind, check then out.
All my love for this band
I like that Stu presents all of those books he got and my first reaction being. "Yup... that's Stu alright"
You can really tell how good an artist is from the music they choose
*Looks at grimes*
Ambrose is so cute, my heart can't take it
They should release an album
Death grips- what's in my bag
HIGHTONEEE they wouldnt show up haha
a fuckin sword and a nuke
Yummy
some jimi hendrix, of course
the_rugged 😂😂😂
I'm sure we'll be seeing more of these greats with the world catching on. Great video! Thanks Amoeba!
Cavs finally mastered the double bass!!!
Tezeta from the new album is inspired by the song "Tezeta (Nostalgia) by that Ethiopian Jazz Guy. Sorry, im too lazy to look up his name. But its definitely influenced by his music.
Mulatu Astatke
HOLY SHIT A KING GIZZ' SEGMENT YES!!!!!!
What's In Stu's Bag?
*_Eggs._*
pretty sure lucas is wearing a parquet courts shirt. fuck yeah
you already know ya boy edgar wright is gushing over this
Is Edgar Wright a gizzhead, he's already my favorite director but that just makes me love him more
So far one of my favorite episodes, I like everything these guys bought. And I love the band of course :)
This band is fucking killer! I love em!
nice work lucas with the Parquet Courts t-shirt
Saw these guys in Vancouver with my Australian friends who showed me them. One of my favourite gigs I've been too, it was a trip for sure
that h.p. lovecraft cover at 9:08 totally remind me of Im In your mind Fuzz cover!
Always knew there was a reason Stu is my favorite member! I have all of this stuff too!
Very neat! My old man's first concert was Ultimate Spinach. He's from New England and I asked if he'd ever heard of them when I discovered them and saw that they were from New England too. He said that them and Beacon Street Union were Boston's response to the Psych scene in San Fran.
never clicked on a video this fast in my entire life

Shahé I couldnt believe my damn eyes
FUXKIN SAME
