The ufc doesn’t have enough talent to feed more divisions. The biggest critique flyweight, heavyweight, and lightheavyweight get is that there's not enough talent and compelling contenders in them. People were even calling middleweight boring for a long time. Imagine cutting that division in half to feed another it'd be awful.

@hittingates flyweight isn't and has never been popular whatsoever, cutting it in half won't make it anymore popular. And lightheavyweight is pretty trash. It's hard carried by Periera and Jiri. Most athletic guys this size are not coming to the ufc for nickles and dimes

Another thing worth mentioning is all the quick turnarounds and short notace fights that the ufc has been trying to pull. Such with deigo vs Brian on short notice, Gilbert and belal being on 3 weeks notace with the ufc probably hoping Gilbert could get rid of belal, but we all saw that Gilbert broke his shoulder from too much training. Also we saw the ufc trying to give Isreal adasanya over trained versions of dricuus du plessis and Robert Whittaker on a 10 week turnaround, and they even tried to get dricuss to fight Isreal adesanya on a quick turnaround after his war with Strickland. Over training is probably a contributor to fighters pulling out these days.

You should athletically peak at the fight day, you can't hold that level year round, you need to ramp it up during fight camp.
But slacking off is definitely not what people should do and honestly I don't think most fighters do.
There definitely are a lot of fighters with eating disorders though and the ballooning of some fighters probably stems from there.

Highly disagree with sparring before a fight, Max said he started sparring again for Justin because the risk of Justin’s power, sparring isn’t to learn how to fight at that level it’s about timing, beings sharp with counters and conditioning the body for a fight. @MrAbcdefgbarney 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

Eh you can spar, but ideally one should really stop hard sparring about 30-45 days before the fight. And stop sparring 3 weeks before the fight. Risk of injury is too high. And if you get injured or aren’t feeling at 100%, it’s bad. These fighters should be doing the majority of their sparring a few weeks after their fights, and before a fight gets announced.
In boxing there was a dude who didn’t spar at all. Anytime he was going to, he’d just take a fight instead. Just an interesting side note

Boxing is a terrible representation of how any other combat sport should act. Besides that I agree on the 3 weeks before a fight but the idea you shouldn’t be hard sparring in camp and “in between fights is when you improve” is silly, timing and being switched on 100% makes a difference going into a fight. This recent streak is the perfect example of all the reasons we have so many canceled Fights:
1: scheduling Issues,Hill was coming of a Brutal KO loss but was expected to fight again in less than 3 full months, Ulberg was expected to fight twice in about 40 days. This causes unexpected injuries.
2: Weight Cutting, especially when it comes to Short notice fights causing health Issues to the fighters.
3: USADA cracking down on steroids more than before causing more fighters to get banned
4: less steroids makes fighters less durable than before however the schedule is as demanding as ever.
5: hard sparring leading up to a fight.
All of these things were an issue in the past individually but usually not all at the same time which causes so many pullouts nowadays compared to the past.
Cutting was not as Common before the late 2010s, Steroids could help fighters get injured less or recover faster and keep up with the Hectic UFC schedule

hard sparring and weight cutting are a factor I think, but also it's overtraining in general. Like yes hard sparring and grappling is gonna lead to more injuries but I think a lot of the injuries we're seeing is from fighters that learned in an environment that pushes training extremely hard, and as fighters get older and have more miles on them they can't recover as fast and that intense training is gonna lead to things popping and breaking down, especially if they're not taking a lot of steroids and such. Compare this kind of training mentality that pushes extremely hard with the Dagestani/russian approach to training that has athletes train every single day, but not necessarily going crazy hard in every session. I think that's why you see less fighters from those camps getting injured or sick before fights, with the exception of doing so due to extreme/bad weight cuts. (Khamzat doesn't count he's not from those camps).

I think there’s something to be said about the negotiating power of the ufc getting into the heads of fighters and leads to them trying to take fights they can’t or shouldn’t really take. Dana will quickly give a fighter the reputation that they don’t want to fight, and there truly are not that many weight classes as said in the video so if a fighter is presented a fight, a certain degree of their decision making is pushed aside. I also feel like it has been happening more as time goes on, nothing to back that up but it feels like a solid observation, and that would coincide with the ufcs and dana’s rise in reputation.

Extreme weight loss makes sense since we could compare athletes from different sports that do not require this process, and they are way healthier. Look at soccer players that hardly ever have to cut weigh or gain it. Zlatan, CR7, Messi, etc (of course the healthiest ones I wouldn't compare Maradona with Chimaev haha).

Tainted supplements is the typical reason/excuse. Legal supplements that you could just buy in the store can occasionally have extracts of illegal substances, apparently. Hard to say when it’s actually true or just a lie to soften the blow from the suspension.

    • @BiggieTrismegistus
      @BiggieTrismegistus 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@thomassavoie04Keep in mind there's a difference between "banned" and "illegal" too. Not all the substances a fighter is prohibited from taking are illegal to sell over-the-counter. Supplements are completely unregulated too so there's nothing stopping the manufacturers from adding all kinds of legal and occasionally illegal substances to their products. They might sell something as a supplement that "naturally supports" a health-related thing and just add a known (and supposedly "unnatural") pharmaceutical that does the same thing.
Honestly most (I'd even say the vast majority) of supplements are complete bullshit anyway. The studies used to show the supplements work are almost comical.

Dana has said like 100 times he would never do a 165/175 which I think is dumb but his company his decision. In regards to the light sparring. In theory its something that would be great. getting these guys to settle down before a fight card would save many cards. BUT YET AGAIN dana does not like to get involved or let the company get involved in the cultures of the teams and how the gyms are ran. It seems like as long as you aren't taking peds. Your team can function however it deems fine and dana has never allowed the company to step in on that.

Vs who has the best system to drop a ton of weight and then put it back on after the weigh in.. some of these guys (boxing too) gain 25-35 pounds after the weigh in!!! If you combine ONE, Bellator/PFL, Cage Warriors etc then cross over to WBC Boxing .. literally every combat sports organisation on the planet combine there profits and multiply it like 6x the UFC makes more. Endeavour to TKO, record gates, PPV selling like crazy... because of the low fighter pay, low costs of production, it just sets the organisation up for insane profit. They've invested 20 million so far for the September PPV. No other organisation is anywhere close to that...
