      The documentary was fantastic, no doubt about it. But Jason Hehir had to put more of Toni Kukoc, he was a fundamental part of the success of that team, specially in those ECF against the Pacers (that Game 7, omg). In the doc they talk about the importance of Rodman during the period Pippen was not in the team due to the recovery of the surgery, but Kukoc stepped up as well, being a starter.
      I'm european as well and I can see the reasons why he is not so famous in the US, but it is a shame that in a 10 part documentary he just only gets that recognisition.
      (Sorry for my english)

      @@John9Birks I think the reason why is bacause no matter how importance Toni was during many games, all the media will talk about was Jordan. And the fact that he was perceived as 6th man didn't help either. He could and should be the starting line up because he made difference to the games and for the fact that he was such a phenomenal player who would have been a starting line up in other teams. To me, he was the greatest .

      Too bad that after '98 when he had to lead the team, his age and many injuries be it back, hip, foot were already crept up on him. If Jordan never returned, I think give it time, Pippen n Toni would have brought the team to the final too, who knows. Toni being a star in Europe and rightly deserved and recognised there was the best thing, while NBA was all about politics and money, who bring the most money with hugh fan base then deserved HOF. He gave up his lead position and his scoring power to suit the team that designed for MJ was something I admire the most, never once complained, no ego, unselfish player, reserved, and never tried to outshine anyone. Toni got my respect the most, imho.

    I grew up watching Toni Kukoc winning the 3peat with Jugoplastica. He was 19, 20 and 21 y.o at that time. He was also part (and the big attraction I would dare to say) of the great Yugoslavia national team. I have to say this. Maybe the new guy (Luca Doncic) is unbelievably amazing, but Toni was really something else. If he had arrived to the NBA in a similar age like Luka (and perhaps in a different team), NBA would have seen the real Toni. And I think that's what the rest of the world is missing in knowing about Toni. From a great fan of Toni Kukoc from Greece

      Well said! You stole my words! And I was a fan of Greece too, I still remember that final in 1989! Galis nailed it! And i will never forget Aris ofcourse, especially those times when Aris had Galis and Vrankovic! Also I have watched Olympiakos and Panathinaikos matches many times. Was really happy for you guys, i think it was 1996 or so, first time that basketball club from Greece won that euro throphy. Both Jugoplastika and PAO had some great matches vs Maccabi and vs Barcelona. Jugoplastika in its prime time and PAO in its prime time. Greetings from Croatia, my friend!

    It's amazing how he established himself in that Bulls team, and played a major role in the 2nd 3-peat.
    I watched another earlier documentary mainly featuring Vlade and the Croatian Dragon. I think it was titled "Once Brothers".
    I am not sure what these Eastern European kids are made of, but man... the fires of war and the freezing tundra that forged them into the men they are is just overwhelming for an outsider looking into their homeworld.
    In the documentary, it showed the bonds formed (and cracked, and then reformed) throughout their playing careers.
    I have always wondered how it felt for someone being part of a brotherhood to have spent so much time together, playing together, and then have to play against each other... all while war rages on your part of the world, creating tensions between bonds once thought unbreakable...
    Toni Kukoc wasn't the main feature in that documentary, but he had first hand experience at how it all happened.
    To see him muster the strength and professionalism to keep going has always been quite a sight for me.

    • @agnezabarutanski1963
      @agnezabarutanski1963 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The part of the answer for the ex-Yugoslavian basketball powerhouse lies in the fact that Serbs, Slovenes, Croats, Bosnians and Montenegrins are some of the tallest people in the world. We are naturally tall and strong (I'm 6'4'' 240 lbs and two of my three brothers are bigger than me, and that's not even strange here in Croatia and Balkans in general; if you wanna see the extreme case, google Strahinja Jokić, Nikola Jokić's brother, it's hilarious how 7'1'' Nikola respects him as a 'big' brother). The other part is little harder to explain. People just excell in sports here. The people of the Balkans are naturally competitive and sports and competitive culture are nurtured since you learn how to walk. On may say that comes from our warriror background and natural fiestiness that came with centuries of fighting against the superior Turkish and German empires - and against each other, unfortunately, but I'm not sure even that gives the whole picture. Even after the breakup, each nation, now matter how small, has had a significant sport success in most other major individual and team sports, which is even weirder when you consider the relatively poor sports infrastructure and corruption in our countries.
      In some parallel universe, Yugoslavia today would have a national basketball team stacked with NBA stars - Dončić, Jokić, Dragić, Vučević, Bojan and Bogdan Bogdanović, Jusuf Nurkić, Miloš Teodosić - just to mention the most established ones, - and I seriously doubt anyone but USA team could touch them.
