Given the aggression, the power and the anger, you can really tell they were still in a period of grieving at this point. Also, the way James sings "dreams" in the first chorus sounded very Justice/Black Album era.
I was amazed to know that they played this one in a live concert as powerfully as we hear them playing on the disc. This version is so alive that I wish I could jump into the crowds in this concert.
Lars drum kit sounded the best from 86-93 or so. That snare was so good. Has the depth, crack and everything. I believe it was a Ludwig? Not too sure. But compare it to even a 2019 version of Puppets, the snare sample doesn’t even have the same vibe
No it is Tama. Lars plays Tama for his whole carreer since they offered him partnership when Metallica started playing gigs even before Kill em All was recorded. He is talking about it in his Guitar center video. :)
Lol, people think Seattle 89 is their peak, if the sound that is happening hear was captured in the quality of Seattle 89, it would make it seem so weak, the tempo, u can still hear how hard they r playing ( as in literally hitting hard) and James voice….. every single line growled n yelled, every note perfectly fryed vowels, even in Seattle 89 he was starting to do that clean woahhh howling crap he does now days.
Cortez Mack well I mean it’s only 1 year before they released the album so he was definitely in the process of stepping into that voice phase during this concert. This is My absolute favourite era of James🤘🏻
It does. He sang Puppets a bit more like the album in '88-89, then he started transitioning to the Black Album sound on the second half of the Damaged Justice tour.
I'm tired of hearing Cliff is better than Jason, or Jason is better than Rob. Cliff was great for his making of Anesthesia and distortion in most of bass riffs. Jason was full of energy and probably the best backup singer and band could ask for. Rob is a great technical bassist that I believe every band needs. There.
Ssstashkin 1 I prefer this one a bit because it's "unprofessional"... But that's what makes it a raw and aggressive. Seatless version is better when it comes to their instrument skills... And in Seattle they had a little "To Live is to Die" intro before puppets.
The thing with those harmonies is that you have to be dead on in terms of timing and tuning for them to sound right. Both of those things, specially the tuning, are pretty difficult to get right live, even for them.
It's because the lead guitar is played 2 frets higher than the rhythm in that part and I guess they still couldn't get the tuning right live for that part to sound good
whats funny is that im here because i was listening to old live cuts from anthrax when they played at the odeon in '87 so got curious about how metallica, slayer and kinda megadeth sounded in the same year so far so good, now i gotta hear slayer and megadeth in this year, lol
James sounds amazing here.
Everybody*
Sounds and looks!
Its not about how good you play or how you hit every single note. Its about the rage.
fuck yeah bro
At 4:38 watch James appear out of never never land
Ted Larson XD
And your surname XD
Mistakes and all this is the best version of this song I’ve ever heard or seen. James is fkn beast on this!!!!!!!!!
This version is the heaviest.good distortion
this and the 86 version are the best
In most live versions of Master of Puppets Hetfield deliberately changes 'How I'm killing you' to 'How I'm f**king you'
James even got all the high notes. Damn.
Given the aggression, the power and the anger, you can really tell they were still in a period of grieving at this point. Also, the way James sings "dreams" in the first chorus sounded very Justice/Black Album era.
Human Spider well seeing how this concert takes place a year before Justice was released, I’d say that’s pretty accurate.
I was amazed to know that they played this one in a live concert as powerfully as we hear them playing on the disc. This version is so alive that I wish I could jump into the crowds in this concert.
I think this version is my favourite!
Very heavy here... much much more heavy
Absolutely awesome guitarsound. Love that edgy rawness.

This is pure garage days sound
.... who else is headbanging with this cranked ?
David Park FUCK YEEAH
James looks like a fucking badass here
thank you for this
No wonder he blew his voice. 87 is easily my favorite year for them. Close second is 90 right before he actually did blow his voice out completely
That’s the thing, he lost that nasty snarl for good after that
@5:09 just so demonic and badass
OMG I DIDINT KNOW THEY WERE IN GOTHEMBURG 1987. COOL
For Sure He Sound Awesome
Me encanta este gran temazoooooo de 1986
Супер!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree about the vocals. Seattle 89 was played faster and tighter though
Metallica en su maximo nivel
Love❤❤❤
Oh yes, my beloved old casette ✨✨✨
Wow...the Legend.
WOWOWOWOW
most brutal version ever
Sounds like his justice voice or is it just me
Cortez Mack well I mean it’s only 1 year before they released the album so he was definitely in the process of stepping into that voice phase during this concert. This is My absolute favourite era of James🤘🏻

Especially in 2:38
Mind blowing Video
thumbs up if you think Puppets is Metallicas best Album . I think black is very good too , but I think puppets is the best of their early stuff
agreed bro
AJFA )
AJFA
Ride the Lightning motherfuckers!!!! :D
Justice and Master is their two most powerful albums. I'd almost say that's a fact ...
Metallica sounds like and justice for all álbum
2016 this will be a 30 year old song
John Raspperry It's now 31 years old
Ryan Thistle it's now 32
33
34
34½
Hetfield 87'. Nothing else to say
Amazing
THIS is the definitive METALLICA voice.
Jame's voice changed into something disappointingly mellow after this year.
yeah, i’d say his voice was at its very peak during 86-89
the justice era was mellow ?? ☠️

Rob is boring by the way,u should be the bassists for them jackhead
So fast they gain almost 1 minute compared to the disk
2019 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
Sweden 1987...this would have been one of the last shows with Cliff right? I can't see who is on bass.
Jason!
Joe Gionti it’s Jason. Cliff died 1986
James hand is so fast you cant even see it
GOTHENBURG!
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
best concert
i my opinion :D
and people are still saying that seatlle 89' version os MOP was the best :DDDDDDDD.
Ssstashkin 1 I prefer this one a bit because it's "unprofessional"... But that's what makes it a raw and aggressive.
Seatless version is better when it comes to their instrument skills... And in Seattle they had a little "To Live is to Die" intro before puppets.
1989 Whiplash is the best though :D
89 is better imo too.
That´s sad that today is no more true music like in 80´s and 90´s
Grazie Metallica
Faster faster!!!!!!
METALLICA🖤🤘
Fucking fast 🤟
Fuck is this awesome !
🤗
wow
Faster of Puppets
There is Cliff Burton there, isn't he? .....
No,I think Jason Newsted. it seems he play with plectrum.
cliff died 27th sept. 86
Holy shit! Is that Jason Newsted or is that actually Ron Mcgovey?
newsted...
metallica on gatorade
*a l t e r n a t e p i c k i n g*
Hey gidi günler
:)
they sound pretty sloppy during the harmony part
lol why are you salty man was just a comment; not that i'm saying it's bad
The thing with those harmonies is that you have to be dead on in terms of timing and tuning for them to sound right. Both of those things, specially the tuning, are pretty difficult to get right live, even for them.
Thats how it sounds live, always the same and this is perfect!!!! real metallica playing aloooooooooo
simcardo777 Yeah but that makes the performance so fucking RAW... It's so badass
It's because the lead guitar is played 2 frets higher than the rhythm in that part and I guess they still couldn't get the tuning right live for that part to sound good
What is SBD?
SBD is short for soundboard
whats funny is that im here because i was listening to old live cuts from anthrax when they played at the odeon in '87 so got curious about how metallica, slayer and kinda megadeth sounded in the same year
so far so good, now i gotta hear slayer and megadeth in this year, lol
Playing guitar I bet is like setting your fingers on fire
Fuck if only he had that voice now I wonder if vocal chords surgery would help maybe not
That was real metallica, not load and reload.
zoltán mórocz Say all you want but those two albums are underrated.
load and reload ARE AWESOEME metallica albums...
@@ottopalosaari8685 everyone matures:)
