So tough dealing with a horse jerking around like that, I manage a Agistment centre / riding school and when I've got a breaker or yearling in for training I do positive reinforcement training before getting the farrier for them and if needed combine that training with a thin rope halter for control plus a wide neck skin pinch and that combination of 3 seems to do the trick even with the most flighty ones! Seen too many farrier get hurt from horses jerking around to let one of my client horses hurt my farrier, good farriers are as rare as hens teeth
Wow you earned your fee on this one thank goodness you didn’t get hurt. I don’t think people appreciate the toll being a farrier takes on your body please look after yourself and good luck with your studies ❤
Wow! Indy certainly did give you a hard time, sorry, but I couldn't help but have a little chuckle near the end, you could hear in your voice a bit in the background, you did a fantastic job, love your videos, so interesting and informative, especially the cold shoeing, fascinating, thank you Caleb, and a very merry Christmas to you and your family, take care Caleb.👍💙🐎🎄🧑🎄
I mean….you actually can burn horses if they have a thin enough sole. I had a farrier who would not hotshoe one of my horses because he told me that her soles were too thin, and she would most likely get burned. The way that this horse was jerking his foot away and then dancing back and forth between feet on the ground suggests that you might have burned him. I could totally be wrong but….he does look quite uncomfortable.
Did something happen that caused the horse to be more skittish than he usually is? I hope that your thumb is feeling better. It might take a few months for the bruise to grow out. But you probably already know that. ☺️
I wonder if the weather changed a bit the next day. When my animals act up the worst, it's a weather change and most times the worse they act out of character the bigger the weather change. Left and right, get it. Broke my right hand in elementary school qnd now I use both hands equallybas much for different things. My left hand is stronger even though I write with my right. I use driver's and passenger's side, sometimes it's funny. It actually fits in this situation unless you mount your horse from both sides then your buggered.
Lots of reasons. Usually these horses have to work and aren't just lawn ornaments. Cutting, dressage, eventing, trail riding, hacking, and others can wear the hoof faster than it grows. Even horses that just walk in a circle on a padded arena may need shoes to prevent flare caused by carrying excess weight. Horses with improper conformation or medical conditions may need shoes to correct the issue and extend the life of the animal.
It's not the length...it's the angles. The angle of the hoof, the pastern & the shoulder should all be the same. Different breeds doing different things have different hoof lengths...ex: a stock horse likely has shorter feet than an American Saddlebred show horse. A longer foot isn't necessarily bad. Cut them down too short, you make them sore.
Excellent! I felt like I was in a virtual horseshoeing class:D
Good looking hoof and shoe reset job Caleb&😊
I've been waiting for the wrist scar story 👍
Great job on a very difficult horse!

Great video and commentary as usual Caleb. Glad to see you’re growing in the business application.
Good luck on your certification.
Great job explaining the process
We've always checked to see if shoes could be reset. It just makes sense on so many levels. Nothing wrong w/ that.

We all have our off days, Indy was having one of those days. You handled him really well.

I didn't burn him he has a ton of sole he was just not wanting to behave and doesn't like the smell

Looks nice. Thank you ❤❤❤
Everybody’s entitled to a bad day, even horses
Indy really pulled u around. Can hear u grunting trying to get his hoof back on stand.
That person that asked why ibuprofen ..needs to see this one! 🙂
Very nice!👍👍👍🐴🐴🐴Merry Christmas!🎄🎄🎄
Does Indy have pain somewhere?
Where do the horseshoes come from?
Several companies make them or we make them custom out of bar stock
Why do you go horizontally with the rasp between the shoe and the hoof?
Would you consider posting your videos with the raw sounds as well as with narrations?
Some I could others I have to mute sound because of the conversations lol we would get banned
That would be great when you can. Ty😊
A hay-net to keep their mind a little bit occupied isn’t something you do in the US?

Why aren't you twisting off the excess nail anymore?
It's quicker to bend over and I get a more precise clinch this way
Why can’t horses go barefoot for a while! Out un the pasture?.
