Eddie Van Halen said that Page plays live like a 2 year old with a broken hand. He also said that Randy Rhodes stole from him. I'd say that while Eddie was a world class guitarist, his fragile ego could not realize that there was better guitar players out there. He had to compensate with his mouth. Page is brilliant here. Every single Zeppelin song was different. With AC/DC hear one song and you have heard them all. With Led Zeppelin hear them all to hear them all.

Turns out Eddie got upset with Page because during an interview after their debut album, Page said he was unfamiliar with what was going on in the US so he couldn't comment about EVH. There ya go...fragile ego.

I saw them in 1973 at MSG. They played three nights and I have no idea which night I attended. They filmed all three nights though. You have good taste.

Brother and sister….you have barely scratched the surface of Led Zeppelin….they were very much about the blues…and putting their own stank on it…as well as rock….arguably the greatest blues-based rock band of all time!
Been to hundreds of concerts. Saw Zep in 73 and 75. Nothing topped those shows. Yes, they are the GOATs.

Zeppelin does blues but they always put their own twist on the form. In this case, they use a twist on the usual chord progression and it’s also a very unique and emotional turnaround. This was all played in a take in a studio on Zep III.

Led Zeppelin's last performance together was 1980.
John Bonham was already 27 years gone by the time they did that one off reunion concert with Jason in 2007.

People expanding their Led Zeppelin listenings past the radio tracks DO often seem surprised by the diversity of their discography- Led Zeppelin was never just one thing or one sound, but carried on the traditions of their blues and folk forefathers to create so many different sounds, spanning many genres. I would suggest watching this concert start to finish, it's incredible!

The Gods were with Zep on that night. Incredible and most likely the greatest live rock performance. Plant was on top with his vocal brilliance and strength. JPJ’s can’t be underrated or benign in how well it stays all together and provide the bass side along with this funeral organ vibe throughout. Bravo!! So good!!

I just love this song by Zeppelin. There is just no band like them. This video used to have audience reaction in it that was so fun to watch-not sure why it's been removed.
The audience reaction hasn’t been removed, this is a different video which was filmed on a different night. The other one is better in my opinion.
I think a lot of reactors are getting copyright problems with the original SRTS version that's in the movie. This different edit seems to be getting through.

Always listen to the studio version first. It's the bands musical vision for the song. Then you can appreciate the live version in a different light. The studio version of this song, as good as this live version is, is so much more phenomenal, IMHO.
Yes Zeppelin does blues, and they're one of the best to do it! For another great blues track from them check out Tea For One, it's a lesser known one from their last album but it's great nonetheless.

The roots of Led Zeppelin was The Blues, and they do play it well. This performance from the docu-movie, The Song Remains the Same, one of the best concert performances put on film.
One of the reasons they are my all time favorite band, they have many different types of songs!

Willie Dixon is a guy they borrowed from. Even him and guys like BB King said they were killing it, to my knowledge. They appreciated what they did to the blues.

Pretty much their entire first album is blues rock covers of old blues songs, and they use the lyrics from such songs throughout their career.

I saw this entire movie (The Song Remains the Same) when it came to the theaters and saw them live in 1977 for just $11!. Incredible. So damn glad I was young then and grew up with this music! My 20 year old granddaughter loves them too!
The Song became a cult classic . We used to have midnight shows where it was a party , open bottles etc...

Led Zeppelin started out as a blues and rock band if you listen to LZ! and LZII. One of their most famous songs is When the Levee Breaks and it is a really John Bonham song for his drums and the sound he got for it.
Besides Page was a teen studio musician in the 60s with the blues swirling all over London and Plant's most cherished possession was his Robert Johnson album when he met Page.
The music scene was heavily blues based and the played loved the american blue singers.Like Muddy, Howlin' Wolf, BB King, ect. When British bands went to America they always wanted to go to Stax n Chicago and Sam Phillips place in Nashville.
The young british players in bands almost would bow down say :We're not worthy' to the blues legends that came to play in London.
Jimmy Page was the last of the great 3 guitarists that played for the Yardbirds which was blues based.
Actually Led Zeppelin was the rising of the ashes of the Yardbirds. Interesting story that.
This concert, Queen in Montreal 81 and London Live Aid are 3 I wish I could have attended.

What's so hard to remember about Zeppelin is just how young they were when they got together...and just 5 years later in 1973 at this concert they 25 (Plant and Bonham) 29 (Page) 27 (John Paul Jones) were still very young......a testament to their uniquely talented and unquestionably brilliant power.
70’s baby here, started getting into music about ‘78 , today’s artists are not required to have the same level of talent as musicians from this era. It’s almost two different genres even though it may be considered the same type of music from then to now

Zeppelin was mostly Blues in the early days, but they didn't have a lane.
Thanks for reacting to this. I saw The Mighty Zeppelin at the Oakland Coliseum July 1977. Day On The Green. Incredible concert. It was their last North American concert. They flew to New Orleans after the show and Robert Plant got the dreaded phone call from the UK that his beloved 5 year old son Karac had passed away suddenly of an infection. This band no doubt is the greatest rock band of all time in the world. No one before, during or after has or ever will surpass this band and their music and prowess and studio and live work. The four band members were synced so well during their time together. Master musicians each and every one of them. Plant was an incredible vocalist and Page undoubtedly one of the greatest guitarist of all time. John Paul Jones was a master at Piano/Organ/Synthesizer and Mandolin among other instruments. John Bonham was the greatest drummer of all time.

There's LZ blues throughout their discography. It morphs just like their journey throughout their 10+ years together. This is my favorite LZ number and this performance!!! Page and Plant continued to do SIBLY during their tours together during the 90s - interesting to hear how it changed over 20 years. Great reaction. Thank you☮
