  • The Ford Mondeo is the best to drive out of the large family saloon class. It looks good, too, but can it take the fight to more premium rivals?

    I had a mondeo MK3 estate 2.0L TDDi - a tractor, a bus, a friend. Huge power, huge room, never let me down. 750 000 km done with the car not a single problem with the engine.
    Ford had a slogan - feel the difference!

    we had a 2009 mondeo titanium x 2.0tdci and pxd it for a 2012 passat 1.6 tdi bluemotion tech. Engine aside it was a big mistake, they are better built but that's it. The mondeo is a way way better car. It drives better, more comfortable, nicer place to sit in, more spacious (70mm more shoulder room ) more standard kit, but above all for those of us who don't want an estate, more practical. We got rid of it after 10 months for a 2014 mondeo business edition titanium, lost a lot of money but a lot happier.

    Great cars👍. I have had most Mondeo generations starting from the MKi, Mk3 and now l am driving the MK4 model. All have been great. I will finally go for the MK5 model, but they are too expensive at the moment. It's a shame that the Mondeo will no longer be produced after 2022. I don't know why people seem to be shifting to SUV'S and crossovers e. g the Ford Kuga which has far lesser room inside and less boot space than the Mondeo.

    I have an 2008 2.0 petrol in zetec trim and it's a great car. I average 35.8 mpg combined and it such a smooth drive. It's a car you can cover large distances in comfort. I've added a bit of chrome to it and replaced the standard stereo with the Sony unit found in the ghia and titanium spec cars. I've had the mk1, 2, 3 and now the 4th generation and they've all been great and cheap to maintain

    It's like riding in a hovercraft, the seats are so supportive and comfortable as well as the car, the This is my third, soundproofing is very good, engine, tyre and road noise in my six yr old 150,000 mile diesel are virtually non existant, even all four passengers can end up falling asleep, there's so much boot and cabin space you could get lost. Dont let the tank run low numerous times though dirt can all too easily get through to the expensive £780 injectors, if you start having problems Shell Nitro seems to work wonders. P.S the manual gearboxes are bombproof.

    Ford got this car spot on . I have a 2 litre Tdci on 63 plate . What a dream to drive . Smooth quiet and loads of room inside. Comes with ac cruise control and blue tooth for my mobile . They compare it to a 3 series bmw but I think it’s not a fair comparison, my mondeo is a far bigger car . It might not have the engines of a bmw but it’s still got some poke . Good value .

    Recently bought a 2010 2.0 TDCi Titanium. I thought it was a great car until I quickly discovered why the previous owner got rid of it. Injectors. I was shafted, but I couldn't do that to the new owner. So I got them fixed up along with a new fuel line at gear expense and then move the car on, at a big loss. After my experience, I no longer wanted the car. But the new owner should have no issues.

    Can someone tell me where is the aerial signal/frequency. I don't want to get radiated, getting brain tumor due to this radio antenna. I can see that it doesn't exist as it once was on the previous models such as, Mondeo Mk3. But, where is located the magnetic radio wave?
    Most of cars, almost all of them, have the antenna and aerial signal at the end of them, near the trunk. Mondeo or Focus until recently considered that is "very good" for the customers to have antenna just above the front passengers. Where is the antenna signal when it comes to MK4 (facelift) and MK5? Thank you!

    In an American car review, you wouldn't hear "accelerating from 0-62 in JUST 12 seconds". Even if the 12 second had to be mentioned as a fact, it would be spiced up with a few "sweet" remarks and a good dose of jokes. I understand that the cost of fuel is forcing the Europeans to resort to smaller engines, and this is why I'm not making fun of them. In fact, I'm rather empathetic and feel sorry for them to have to live in a reality where 12 seconds to 62 mph is not just ok, but it is "JUST 12 seconds".

    VW Passat is better...better finish...Mondeo looks more aerodynamic but.....it's a Ford..not quite up to the German build quality. Skoda Superb would be a much better choice if you want a big car.

    • @FinleyESB
      @FinleyESB 10 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      German build quality is not what it once was mate. I've had a couple of bm's and they were easily the most unreliable cars I have ever owned. Infact I sold a E60BMW 530D M sport and bought a Mondeo. Mainly because I have grown out of the whole badge thing but also because it cost me a ridiculous amount of money just to keep running. New turbo, new manifold, new engine due to swirlflaps being swallowed by the engine. Thankfully covered under warranty. £8250 bill for that one.
      It averaged a real 32mpg which is dire for a diesel.
      The mondeo 2.0 tdci is a pretty bullet proof engine which is actually a Peugeot hdi engine and gives 40 to 55 real world mpg. VW tdi engines are not brilliant either unless it's the new common rail engine. But then like for like with the Mondeo you get more with the Ford and it's pointless paying for the badge. As for the Superb. It's a hideous looking thing, and the Mondeo is no looker.

      @andrewgaron3428 9 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      chitpaul singh kallah The supposed "German build quality" is a carefully protected myth a long time now.
      The last truly well engineered made in Germany cars were the excellent MB W124 & W201 (owned both and still running fine). Since then the reliability of all German manufacturers has gone rock bottom.
      Surely you pay a lot of money for nice materials in the interior and good performance from some of the models but they are not made to last as they used to anymore.

    • @chitpaul
      @chitpaul 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Andrew Garon I've had Ford, and 3 German cars, on my 4th German car, never had a problem. No recalls, solid build...maybe just lucky. Vauxhall company car (10 years ago) broke down on me..they didn't return it just gave me Citreon in its place. Would consider Japanese if they made nice looking cars...only one I would consider would be the Mazda CX5...

      That's good to hear.
      A lot has to do as well with how well owners maintain their cars but statistically from the total sales more will work than not otherwise companies would be out of business.
      Japanese cars (not all but most) have to be more reliable for a reason. It is basically their unique selling proposition that differentiates them from the competition so if they want to remain competitive they better carry doing it.
      On the other hand making "nicer" cars would mean increased R&D costs (which currently is allocate elsewhere), more expensive materials etc etc which would move the price of their cars to levels that nobody would buy because customers would prefer a more "prestigious" make (the concept of vertical differentiation).
      Its simple business economics really.
      Compare for example the Honda Accord vs Audi A4 from 2008-on, pretty similarly priced here in Europe. The Accord is not only as good as to drive, refined, solid and powerful but also considerably more reliable. In the UK is rated as a top20 most reliable car vs something like 200th for the Audi. Guess which one sold better thought?
      For some reason here in Europe there is immense bias and badge snobbery and even in the motoring press cars are often not judged for their merits/drawbacks but for the perceived status. This is much less the case in US, Canada, and Australia as far as I know.
      European reviewers seem always happy to make remarks about the reliability of e.g. French cars but have never heard comments about the dreadful record of eg. Audi Apparently the premium materials inside make them forget all about it...
      Sorry for the long reply.

    • @chitpaul
      @chitpaul 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is a great response and very true. Very interesting. A large amount of factors that effect choice are down to what people "think" is better. I know a few people who have or have had Landrover 4x4's freelancers, RR Sport and the big RR. The press used to say the reliability of these magnificent 4x4's was totally hidious. My friends with these vehicles have never so far had any issues...just the regular service items. The press has been know to put them down for many many years.
