    BumpsNotes on XERB1090
The death of Dale Earnhardt resulting from a crash on the final lap of the race deprived a family of its patriarch and the sport of the most eminent stock car luminary of his time (Earnhardt Series). Earnhardt’s legacy might reside in how his death reshaped the sport.
At the time of Dale’s death NASCAR was dealing with the aftermath of three driver fatalities in 2000-Adam Petty, Kenny Irwin Jr. and Tony Roper, ahead of the Daytona 500.
The 2001 Daytona 500 marked the inaugural year of NASCAR’s six-year, $2.8 billion television agreement with Fox and NBC.
BumpsNotes attempts to present a respectful view of the event without having to lean on the wreck itself of which most of you have viewed many times.
The story is compiled in five reasonably short videos and we hope you enjoy the presentation and editing taken from the NASCAR televised video article “The Day”

“Richard, if they don’t do something to these cars, it’s gonna end up killing somebody” man that makes me cry every time i hear it, he was truly a legend and he’s the best there is, was & ever will be! We miss you Dale😢

It's odd that Dale said that, since he was so anti-safety (he'd been bashing the HANS device for a long time, calling it a "noose".) He didn't even use a full face helmet.

@@Zoomer30 unfortunately this is true. He was old school. Cant fault him for it. Did it cost him his life? More than likely. Still one of the worst days in sports imo

I just happened to see something in my recommended today and been watching videos on it all day. I'm not even a nascar fan but in one day I've come to realize what a horrible tragedy and great loss this was! Such a tragedy!

Those were Richard’s words, not sure if they have audio of that conversation. Dale knew the cars were dangerous being in packs and that they were getting faster. Also, he had seen 3 deaths the year before. 2 in the Cup Series alone.

3:24 Dale Sr eyes closed, one can wonder what was he thinking? Maybe praying or maybe feeling that his day has come and repenting. I'm still not over this loss of my hero. Now, to get a Puertorican fan of NASCAR all choked up, that means, Dale was special to me and I never met him. 😢

It’s crazy to think that if you take out the last half lap of this race, this could’ve been seen as the best speedweeks and one of the best Daytona 500s of all time. It really was a great race, except that last lap

My Mom has been a fan of NASCAR Since 1988 and she choosed Dale Earnhardt as her favorite driver since 1988 - 2001!
Now, She still loves NASCAR but she barely watch it because she didn't have time to watch them because she was either busy or she was doing business! After Dale Earnhardt's Death, she changed her favorite driver to Jeff Gordon (2001 - 2003) then changed it to Kasey Kahne! (2004 - 2019) Her favorite driver now is Kevin Harvick and she still remembers Dale Earnhardt everyday!
    R.I.P Dale Earnhardt (1959 - 2001)

Would Dale have lived had he been in the Big One? Maybe, but then again a freak contact with the wall at the wrong angle in that crash could also have killed him. I know that's really negative, but "coulda, woulda, shoulda" is a very complex game to play. It is unbelieveably cruel at times, but in this World if it's your time, it's your time. Fate isn't a debate: it's a fact. That's the only explanation for why, as an example, some young children suffer and die of terrible illnesses.

"We've got to stress this is a sport." And now those corporations have made it a bullshit sport that lost it's roots and now you have to be rich to get into nascar whereas Dale was a nobody when he started. That's why fan numbers have dropped off over the years and also because of all the bs rules and regulations fans did not want. Sad to see them destroy the fan base the old drivers brought to the sport.

    The Intimidator
At 5:16, they made the call,
Cause of death? Drove into wall.
    Earnhardt collided with Ken Schrader,
Then he died two seconds later
    Junior was screaming and saddening.
Not me though, I was the only one laughing
    I stood in the crowd with a smile on my face;
Pretty sure a NASCAR fan was gonna spray me with mace.
Everyone else was filled with grief.
Then they remembered that they only had eight teeth.
I didn't want to write this poem because I knew it was mean.
Then I thought, "Well Earnhardt, you should've raced clean."
