This wonderful Bishop has been attacked by so-called traditional Catholics viciously. He doesn’t name names, he doesn’t lash out in anger or hurt. He doesn’t use his position or power against them. He brings the Word, wisdom and love. His gentleness is something we should all be imitating.

I live in a house of students (36 people) in Germany. We have quite an active social life together and also many duties we share in caring for the house and garden we live in. This house has been founded by the Church and many of us living here are Christians. As you can imagine, the question of good communication and solving problems collectively is very relevant here. I think I will suggest that we watch this together or that this video will be recommended to watch when arriving here. It sure would make things a lot better. It is also the one principle that the church, Catholic and Protestant, ignors to the point of slaying people. I have been in the Church for over 70 years and have a seminary degree... Please listen to this over and over again. And do it quickly, never letting the sun go down on your anger. This is the most practical and powerful teaching on this subject. Thank you for sharing. I enjoy (and learn) from your sermons. So often when I listen to the readings and the gospel, I think they contradict Christian principals. I was looking at the treat them how you would treat a gentile or tax collectors feeling they would be treated unkind....not thinking of how Jesus treated them. Wow~
I woke up this morning pondering the true meaning of love thy neighbor as you love yourself. Asking Jesus what it really means seconds after my feet hit the floor. Your message was immediate answer to my imploring of our Lord. Thank you Bishop Barron.
That’s a toughie. Having initiated an intervention, the toughest part was adopting a spiritual posture of deep humility. I get the progression and the practice of « talking to » vs « talking about ». What was demanding for me and the few family members involved was a posture of true Christ-infused love, totally free of « I or We are right, you’re wrong ». The second Christ-infused posture that was so demanding involved detachment from the outcome while remaining committed to the other as an other, an other totally free to choose. May I suggest that was missing from my experience was praying, praying before, during and after. Prayer should have been my first step, a dialogue between me and God, holding the other lovingly and with a Christful posture. Lévis
Criticism comes directly from the devil. True Christians are very conscious about fraternal correction and do it in a constructive and loving way. If it doesn’t work, pray and leave it to God.

Ideally Catholics wouldn't go around offering unsolicited criticisms against other Catholics who they've never met or had direct experiences with. In the case of Taylor Marshall (who I initially found to be quite engaging), he appears to believe that his worldly status via his academic achievements and efforts grant him the authority to ostensibly correct any and all flaws he may perceive in the Church. There wouldn't be a problem with that if he were to go about it in the manner described by Bp Barron here, but it should be readily apparent by his very public remonstrations that he does anything but. The good bishop hit the nail on the head when he replied to Marshall's criticisms (on Twitter I think) something to the effect that he (Barron) was under no obligation to grant him a platform. No one forced Marshall to undertake the public activities he engages in. I'd say that the typical TH-cam comments are pretty venial by comparison (not that that absolves anyone from undignified conduct of course!)
Bishop Barron not only is blessed with doing the right thing always (may our gracious God preserve him in this), he can very well prove his SKILL (praise God) in it. One more of the great *'Sunday Sermon'!*
There is a difference between judging a person (as he is good or bad) and judging an act committed by the same person. To evaluate objectively the act is possible and we are urged to do so.

Good comment, but would note Emmaus isn't where we want to go. The two disciples left Jerusalem because they couldn't understand His sacrifice. Jesus walked with them, the wrong way, to explain how that sacrifice fulfilled (Old Covenant) scripture. Once they recognized Jesus after He blessed the bread, they ran back and found the apostles.
Bishop Barron, I will share this wonderful homily on today's Readings. Fraternal correction and the scriptural approach to it is very often ignored. Too much emphasis is placed on the use of social media to settle issues with others rather than using the approach promoted by Jesus Christ. Many of us, are guilty, of promoting the use of social media for this purpose, very often to the detriment of the good and well being of others. I sincerely hope and pray that many of us who identify ourselves as Christians will adopt the Scriptural method that you endorsed in your homily. I am sure that we can all learn and grow spiritually from the message of today's Gospel.
How would this method work in the case of a lay faithful correcting a bishop on the issue of sexual abuse and cover up? The bishops have a long track record of avoiding meetings with faithful when the issue is a serious one such as sexual abuse.
I just learned the concept of subsidiarity last night, how serendipitous that I should hear Bishop Baron use it while sharing his thoughts on today’s Gospel!!! I am blessed. God is great!
Christ never promised us that life would be easy or comfortable. He did give us wisdom to confront life's challenges. Todays Gospel, so profoundly "opened up" for us by Bishop Barron, is a wonderful example of God's teaching us always.

This is the best argument I've heard for the Church to deal with so-called Catholic politicians who continue to act in opposition to the doctrines of the Catholic faith. Are you listening Church? Are you listening Body of Christ? Seems to me this level of intervention is needed now.
My 90 year old mother would love this one... if I could get her to listen. Her country Methodist upbringing created a distrust of Catholic teaching of any kind.
Nothing in this homily could upset any Anglican, or Methodist, Bible Lutheran or Mennonite. And never forget that Methodists will happily recite the Apostles, or the Nicene, creed including that awkward line '... and in the church, catholic and apostolic'.

Thank you so much Bishop Barron--- I was just corrected on social media by the people I was trying to "correct" because I did not follow this principal. Lesson learned and the scriptures Sunday seemed to mirror my deep desires, but without the "principle" and the way of love my words and definitely the video I posted did not show forth the Christian faith for my weaker friends. It confirmed our breach and brought forth the worst in those that agree with me. Right is right and needs correction but the way we do this must be with Holy Love!!! You are a blessing to the Church and a bridge to those who are on the outside. We do have to consider the "gentile and tax collector" when we speak at large. Otherwise we cut them off from possible reception of the Truth through lack of charity.

As we all know, this is quite tough considering trying to guide our fellow Christian(s) back to Christ, especially, when he/she might claims that they know God's teaching more than you do, which in most cases, true, at least for myself, humbly speaking, and this is even tougher when trying to guide people to Christ who aren't Christian, or at least not yet, (gentiles, per se), (as it's what I was prior to being accepted into Christ's after being converted). But I wanted to add, as I grow more into self-awareness of everything that I do while striving to live in Christ's path, I believe that there's also another crucial step to perform, a self-assessment (and most importantly, pray about it), prior to going to confront him/her about the problem/issue, as we're naturally be a self-acclaimed (self-righteous) human being, thinking that we do not have any possible speck in our own eyes to rid off first before trying to help remove the speck from other's eyes. May God bless us and have mercy on us all! Amen.
I am blessed not having to need social media to make my life whole. Although I have few friends I do whine and complain a lot and later I feel a rush of guilt over shadow me until I turn to God and ask for mercy. Sometimes I would love to live in a cave or be completely separated from this miserable world.
Some of us, I include myself, have spiritual weights double of our physical weight. Past hurts still hurt, and will probably never be forgotten. That said, the stubborness in not forgiving or fear of approaching that person keeps that weight on our spiritual backs.

I have been watching your videos for sometime now and I have learnt and progressed in my life from your teachings. I love the way you explain The Acts of the Apostles. This is the best argument I've heard for the Church to deal with so-called Catholic politicians who continue to act in opposition to the doctrines of the Catholic faith. Are you listening Church? Are you listening Body of Christ? Seems to me this level of intervention is needed now.

My 90 year old mother would love this one... if I could get her to listen. Her country Methodist upbringing created a distrust of Catholic teaching of any kind.
Nothing in this homily could upset any Anglican, or Methodist, Bible Lutheran or Mennonite. And never forget that Methodists will happily recite the Apostles, or the Nicene, creed including that awkward line '... and in the church, catholic and apostolic'.
Love this series of Bishop Barron's sermons for the Sunday readings. I like to listen to them before participating in Mass; especially those based on the Old Testament readings.

Thank you so much Bishop Barron--- I was just corrected on social media by the people I was trying to "correct" because I did not follow this principal. Lesson learned and the scriptures Sunday seemed to mirror my deep desires, but without the "principle" and the way of love my words and definitely the video I posted did not show forth the Christian faith for my weaker friends. It confirmed our breach and brought forth the worst in those that agree with me. Right is right and needs correction but the way we do this must be with Holy Love!!! You are a blessing to the Church and a bridge to those who are on the outside. We do have to consider the "gentile and tax collector" when we speak at large. Otherwise we cut them off from possible reception of the Truth through lack of charity.

As we all know, this is quite tough considering trying to guide our fellow Christian(s) back to Christ, especially, when he/she might claims that they know God's teaching more than you do, which in most cases, true, at least for myself, humbly speaking, and this is even tougher when trying to guide people to Christ who aren't Christian, or at least not yet, (gentiles, per se), (as it's what I was prior to being accepted into Christ's after being converted).
But I wanted to add, as I grow more into self-awareness of everything that I do while striving to live in Christ's path, I believe that there's also another crucial step to perform, a self-assessment (and most importantly, pray about it), prior to going to confront him/her about the problem/issue, as we're naturally be a self-acclaimed (self-righteous) human being, thinking that we do not have any possible speck in our own eyes to rid off first before trying to help remove the speck from other's eyes.
May God bless us and have mercy on us all! Amen.

I am blessed not having to need social media to make my life whole. Although I have few friends I do whine and complain a lot and later I feel a rush of guilt over shadow me until I turn to God and ask for mercy. Sometimes I would love to live in a cave or be completely separated from this miserable world.
Some of us, I include myself, have spiritual weights double of our physical weight. Past hurts still hurt, and will probably never be forgotten. That said, the stubborness in not forgiving or fear of approaching that person keeps that weight on our spiritual backs.
Thank you Bishop. I work Overeaters Anonymous. 12 step process speaks to me deeply. This is so important to recognize our own sins, as well when we approach difficult situations. I'm in gratitude for this today 🙏💞......
