Omg this is so much easier than I anticipated, the last one I did was with my buddy on his Sonoma, 2003 I believe and it's behind the entire dash ugh 😩
Through the glove box pull the blower motor and carefully clean the evaporator core. Many of these are filled with debris from leaves and dirty. There are several good videos on TH-cam to show you how. Will drastically improve your air flow for heat and ac.
I need to do that. I paid 1350 for a whole new ac in my 94 and the air flow isn’t strong at all. I hope that will fix the issue. I’m sure it hasn’t been cleaned, but who knows. I bought it back in February.
@@OBSKEV mine was filled up with leaves and all kinds of stuff like I figured it would be. I cleaned the evap and rinsed it down good. The air flow is better I will say.
@@OBSKEV yea it was cold but it froze up and I had to turn the ac off and just let the fan blow. The coils would freeze over cuz it was clogged. It still does that but just takes longer now.
I wish all cars were this easy lol. I daily a 94 and have never replaced mine. Always heard it was easy to swap, now I know haha. I changed the one on my dad's 2nd gen dodge and had to require the help of my buddy to maneuver the dash out of the way, it was not very fun lol
Update: My clip did break, it's an aftermarket core of course, I "made" a new clip out of a house door latch striker, I couldn't really make a lip reliable enough where I'd trust it after some time, so I bolted another one to it, and let the bottom of the box sorta keep it in position and the strikers would keep the top of it up. I got pretty decent heat now where before I had maybe luke warm heat as the core was sitting at the bottom of the box. If for whatever reason that don't work in the long run or next time i'm in there or the same issue happens with one of my other GMT400 trucks, I'm just going to make my own bracket, I could make one out of vary thin sheet metal, design it to hook into the bottom of the core, and wrap to the top where the single screw is to hold it place, if it was a factory style or shape core, I wouldn't have to fight with this. I just rigged it up as it was 12F outside and I needed the truck later that day for a 200 mile haul, just needed heat now lol. Thanks for the video man!
Love the info on your videos. I'm replacing my interior and you've saved me a LOT of headaches! While the dash is out I'm gonna change my heater core since it's been leaking and has the underside of the carpet wet.
I was at my woman's the other day, saw a canal flowing from my passenger door, I was so confused then had the disgusting sad realization and I was partially heart broken ngl, if it wasn't the daily id rig it but I'm gonna have to put my nose on the grindstone to fix er up
To remove the evaporator core do we need any extra special tools to get it out I need to replace evaporator core but shops are asking for to much $ I need help , help pls any suggestions thank 😃
If you are handy there is a way to replace the evaporator from the engine compartment. No dash removal necessary. Unlearned how by watching a few YT videos. I know this is a 2 year old comment but other people will see this comment in the future.
I believe that it's controlled with a blend door. You are just redirecting air flow and not bypassing the flow of anything other than the air. And wait till you get the pleasure of replacing the blend door actuator for the heater core. The truck has 3 actuators but that heater core door is the worst. It only has 2 screws. One isn't all that bad, the other is that bad
Do these heater cores tend to leak antifreeze? I have a leak and though it was the hose but I checked and no holes and even bought a new clamp same issue maybe this is my issue?
I have 95 Chevy suburban K1500 I’ve done new AC compressor, relay, resistor, blower motor and etc. ALL OEM PARTS I just did my heater core and now my climate control panel lights turn off when I turn the headlights on and it’s blowing straight heat even when set on HIGH AC. PLEASE HELP!!
@@dennisweber7803 Check if the vent actuator is operating correctly, its behind the center of the dash, slightly towards the passenger side. I replaced damn near everything until i found out it was that haha

Exactly what I was just thinking. It's getting cold so I need to get too it.

Thanks for the walk through, a towel is useful on the Pax side floor in case there is residual coolant in old core. Cheers.
That was an excellent lesson. Not a whole lot of confusing side bar b.s. explanation. Thanks
Thank you for this comprehensive video!
Simple and easy to follow, I like it
Thank you for simple straightforward video
Man great detail s and the walk through and everything very very good education video

Where can one get a heater core clip thingy for aftermarket heater core?
This is one of the few jobs that is easier on the vortec trucks. Even still, this is super simple.
To remove the evaporator core do we need any extra special tools to get it out I need to replace evaporator core but shops are asking for to much $ I need help , help pls any suggestions thank 😃
@Israel Diaz Sorry, we haven’t done that job before. Hopefully someone else can help!
I think you have to remove the dash, I’m not sure. Maybe that’s why it’s big money.

Where is the heater bypass control valve?
@bob oh stephens I’m not sure we didn’t mess with it. Maybe someone else can help with the location.
I believe that it's controlled with a blend door. You are just redirecting air flow and not bypassing the flow of anything other than the air.

Excellent video.
Thanks for the video it helped me out. 👍
Just to make sure I was buying the right part- Does your truck have A/C? It seemed like there might be two different ones available depending on that
@Kevin Shaw I’m not sure if it is a/c dependent but the truck does have a/c
Do these heater cores tend to leak antifreeze? I have a leak and though it was the hose but I checked and no holes and even bought a new clamp same issue maybe this is my issue?
Is the leak inside the cab?
Its under the hood on the firewall side not in the cab where the heater core hoses connect
I keep leaking where the hoses are supposed to connect to the heater core tubes
It’s either the hose or the core! The hose is much easier to replace, I’d start with that.
Okay thank you so much I’ll try that
Good video, 👍
For the original core versus market core tip, does it applies to to a chevy celebrity? Is it the same type of clip that I'll find underneath?
Wait when did u unhook the hoses im done
@von jey We had one off already because we were doing the valve seals at the same time. It’s the same process as the one we showed though
Back when it took 15 minutes to replace a heater core .😂
Did you flush the lines to prevent (or minimize) gunk from getting into the new core?
We drained the antifreeze and replaced with fresh antifreeze, but no flush.
What is the part number ? For heater core?
Part numbers are in the video description.
@SuburbanRanch Duh I found it. I'm old lol!
Is this the same as the evaporator? I’ve seen the terms used interchangeably just want some clarification.
@Landen Wolever No, the heater core is different than the evaporator
Evaporator refers to the air conditioning (cold air) system I believe
Great video very helpful.

@Matthew Lara Kind of sounds like something isn’t wired correctly, but not really sure on this.
Do you have to recharge AC after replacing?
@Niklas Acuña the AC is not connected to the heater core so the answer is no.
Might want to top off your coolant though
Is it the same with a 89 2500 350 tbi??
Yes, same heater core on a 1989
Hey I have the same truck
Hello Suburban Ranch..will this heater core fit a 94 gmt-400 c/k 1500 ,5.0, v8 chevy pickup ..just wondering, indeed to replace mines 👍
@L Gonzalez Should be the same part, but check the parts catalog or RockAuto before ordering!
Ok thanks brother
Do you have to have the foam?
@Kenneth Kehoe I think the foam is a good idea
My heater core hoses were connected the opposite way from the way of the video so which is the correct way?
@Adrian Contreras The hoses in the video are connected correctly.
Would anyone be able to tell my why my truck has no hoses running to the heater core at all?also no belt on my ac compressor
@ExtraOrdinaryIncome My guess is it broke and they did a manual delete. I would guess the heater core leaks as well.
Will it make a mess when i pull the hose? I'm going to be using my old bosses shop so I'd be nice to know lol
We drained the radiator first, but yes, there will be some additional antifreeze in the core

Great video but them Amazon parts won’t last u long, autozone or orileys has original oem parts u can buy that will last longer
