Sometimes the most difficult part of catfishing is simply finding the bait. You definitely have got you a "Baitfish Honey Hole" there my UTube catfishin' friend! Can't wait for the upcoming video showing us all the Big Fat Flatties you catch with your newly caught baitfish. Keep up the good videos and God Bless!
Nice ! When I was 10 and my brother was 8 we would take the city bus and transfer downtown to a city park in the mornings. We'd fish til 10 am and go back home via the bus. We had a 5 gal bucket with 2 poles and a tacklebox in it. The adults going to thier work all just smiled. Do watcha got to do! Thanks for the video.
You got some flathead candy! I'm in Tennessee but have relatives in Albuquerque and Roswell. Wish I was out there with you bro. Love your videos and Steve's too. I'm gonna get me one of your mud sticks!
Hi man. I really enjoy your vids. You are fishing some very interesting spots. And your info during fishing is good. Hope those baitfish gives you some big flatheads. Cheers
I enjoyed your video. We can't use live bait here in Idaho. I still enjoyed watching you catch your bait. Now I want to see you catch those flat heads.
Just want to say thank you you had a video show how you rigged your fishing rod with the weight on the bottom and the hook at the top I want fishing Saturday and I use your method and I caught five big catfish I just want to say thank you it really work the Kentucky rig I think that was the video that I watched and it was a real big help thanks
I found a small hole one day. Got my cast net out to try to catch some shiners or Bluegill for bait. Came up with about a dozen small carp from 6"-12" long. Best night I ever had. Caught several Blues and Flathead that night. The smallest was a 15# Blue. The largest a 65# Flathead. I used a simple slip sinker, 2oz and a 10/0 circle hook. I hooked them just in front of the tail. Carp became my go to bait for big fish.
we're you using the garlic worms?a so how long did you leave them in garlic? can use right away or kinda wait to absorb the smell etc? what's the best way to cook catfish? I don't catch them cause I don't know how to cook them so they taste good? thanks again great channel
Im trying a new bait with minced garlic weathies and big red i heard it works more of a sticky mush ...but im trying it out tomorrow... What are ur thoughts on that combo bait
ok-thanks..i did try some drifting with some live bluegills acouple of weeks ago in about 20' or so of water from about 7a.m. to 12pm,but had no luck.I had gotten small flatheads closer to shore in the past while casting for bass so I tried out where it was deeper.
Mr. Flores have you ever used rattling noise for catfishing and if he did did it work pretty good for you I was thinking purchasing some of the rattle noise for my cat fishing trips
I live in Pa. and the local Susquehanna River is becoming very popular for flatheads. Most guys fish at night.I see you fish during the day.Justed watched Steve Douglas's channel and he catches them during the day.Does air/water temp. and time during the daylight hours matter much?Any pointers?Steve was in deeper water during daytime
newyota1 Steve and I were just talking about that. Steve is able to catch them during the day because he can find their resting areas and position himself to fish them with his boat. These areas are in deeper waters next to shallow areas with structure that hold bait fish. The fish rest in the deeper water during the day and move into the shallow water at night. If you are able to get a bait in front of them while they are resting, they usually won't pass it up. The area where I fish is much smaller so there are different rules. The fish won't go to a deeper spot because there really isn't one. Instead, they'll tuck underneath the bulrush, logjams, or rocks, and wait until it is dark to come out to feed. This is why it's a little bit harder for me to target flatheads during the day than it is for Steve.
Thank you for replying back to me.. I really love fishing an enjoy ur videos. I would love to go to the spots u go too like this one for example or where you get big catfish. Any locations you can give me?
Hey man great videos! My girlfriend and i often go fishing to our local lakes, and always have a good turn out, BUT here recently we've been curious in how to catch the BIG CATS!? What advice can you gives on what type of rig to use ?thanks man (Javie)
Dave Green try bigger baits and look for heavy cover . Flatheads love log jams or boulders. A live bluegill or carp work great. 4" to 8" baits are a good size. I catch the majority of mine between 10 pm to 6 am. Hopefully this helps
Another Honey Hole is right by Rainbow Lake! the little pond next to the lake stocked with catfish. I caught about 50 little blue gills in that pond with my dad once!
Hey man I live right next to rainbow lake. I loved fishing there, but now it's closed down :( could u please tell me where this little pond is so I can use them for my trot lines?
Randall Lucero It's the little pond that is part of the Anthony drain on the left hand side of Rainbow Lake. I don't know if it's dried up now, but there were a bunch of Blue Gill and sunfish in there.
Those little carp are by far my favorite flathead bait but now it is illegal to return live rough fish to the water in Iowa I can cut it up but not use it live ...
Hey Kris. I'm Case and I'm from Texas. I fish on the Rio Grande at La Linda a lot and I sometimes use raw steak for bait. Do you think you could try it some time? I've caught some good bullheads and channels on it! (bass too)
I think they both work well, but they say the bigger the bait the bigger the fish. A larger sized carp will eliminate the smaller flats and allow you to target the larger ones. I've heard of catfisherman using up to 2lb carp as bait!
muddyrivercatfishing When you fish with live bait, do you just hook the fish and toss it in the water, just the hook and fish, no weights or bobbers or anything else? Also, how do you fish with cut bait, do you just hook it like you normally do with cutbait and set it on the bottom of the water or do you use a bobber?
when I fish with live bait I use a weight to keep the fish where I casted it. I feel that keeping the bait anchored causes it to swim erratically and draw attention to itself. Catfish can sense the vibrations of the struggling baitfish and are drawn to it. As for cut bait it can be fished both ways. I usually fish it with a weight, but you can also drift it with a bobber
You are the 1st person that I ever subscribed to. You beat out Jay Leno and Jerry Seinfeld! Congratulations! I'm origanally from Catepillers headquarters, Peoria IL. ... will I get in trouble wearing that hat the next time I go to visit family? And final thing I asked if in your state is it legal to use a fish trap that has funnel in it so they can go in but not out. There's a video that a company sells what looks like road side cones that have slits in them and the guy in the video installed them in 4" or 6" pvc. Might wanna check it out. Just some thoughts. Keep up the good work. Danno
Dude i cant get to sleep while watchin your videos its 5am!! How many buckets did you bring to haul all those carp back? Im sure your legs were burning from that bike ride back!
Yea, i live in cali after watching this video i went to the lake and tried it, a ranger show up and asked me if i was having any luck. I told him that just couple of blue gills that i was going to use for bait, and he asked me if i knew that it was ilegal to use blue gills for bait hahahha.

+ChinoFire710 I was just using regular worms in this video. I recommend at least over night before you use them. The longer the better though.

Im trying a new bait with minced garlic weathies and big red i heard it works more of a sticky mush ...but im trying it out tomorrow... What are ur thoughts on that combo bait

Yeah that would be a nice meal
I'll be in Ruidoso, NM in two weeks. Any suggestions on where to fish?
ok-thanks..i did try some drifting with some live bluegills acouple of weeks ago in about 20' or so of water from about 7a.m. to 12pm,but had no luck.I had gotten small flatheads closer to shore in the past while casting for bass so I tried out where it was deeper.

I love how you mentioned there were no motor vehicles allowed and then some guy on a quad comes Rollin through lol

Hey man great videos! My girlfriend and i often go fishing to our local lakes, and always have a good turn out, BUT here recently we've been curious in how to catch the BIG CATS!? What advice can you gives on what type of rig to use ?thanks man (Javie)
try using fresh cut bait or live bluegill in areas with lots of cover. Log jambs or drop offs with lots of rocks, ledges or boulders
Hey Kris those carp are you gonna use them as cut bait or live bait
both
You remind me of my cousins husband Sam Mcgee.. I think they lived in around that area where you at..
When are you gone do a video of catfish!?
how do you keep them alive long enough to fish with them at night? great videos!
keep them in a bait bucket that sits in the water or have them in a bucket or cooler with a bubble maker
I want to target flattered but no matter what I I use for bait I catch channel.any suggestions to what I need to do?
Dave Green try bigger baits and look for heavy cover . Flatheads love log jams or boulders. A live bluegill or carp work great. 4" to 8" baits are a good size. I catch the majority of mine between 10 pm to 6 am. Hopefully this helps
Do flathead like live bait or cut bait?

Those little carp are by far my favorite flathead bait but now it is illegal to return live rough fish to the water in Iowa I can cut it up but not use it live ...
That is so cool. Looked like a real good time :)
Hey Kris. I'm Case and I'm from Texas. I fish on the Rio Grande at La Linda a lot and I sometimes use raw steak for bait. Do you think you could try it some time? I've caught some good bullheads and channels on it! (bass too)
Case Southerland I'll have to give it a try! if I can keep it from making it's way to my grill first! Just kidding!
Do you prefer the carp or the bluegill?
I think they both work well, but they say the bigger the bait the bigger the fish. A larger sized carp will eliminate the smaller flats and allow you to target the larger ones. I've heard of catfisherman using up to 2lb carp as bait!
Thats crazy. Thanks. I mostly fish for bass, but thinking about getting into catfishing. Would love to land a monster flathead.
Nice video, great job!
are there no limits or regs for carp around your way?
no, you can catch as many as you want. They are over populated here
Do you use them as cut bait or live bait?
I use them as both
muddyrivercatfishing When you fish with live bait, do you just hook the fish and toss it in the water, just the hook and fish, no weights or bobbers or anything else? Also, how do you fish with cut bait, do you just hook it like you normally do with cutbait and set it on the bottom of the water or do you use a bobber?

Catfish can sense the vibrations of the struggling baitfish and are drawn to it. As for cut bait it can be fished both ways. I usually fish it with a weight, but you can also drift it with a bobber
How many did you end up with?
70 carp
muddyrivercatfishing O M G ! lol
Do you use your bait live or use cut bait?
