I got to meet Steve backstage in Atlanta after a show in 2018. I played guitar for a living for over 25 years, and finally got to meet my guitar hero and tell him the speech I've had in my head for over 30 years. Told him how much he influenced me - how he basically taught me to play guitar through his recordings. He almost teared up - hugged me - and thanked me for sharing that with him. He said he was so glad that I didn't get to meet him decades before, because he wouldn't have been sober and fully appreciated it. What a good dude. One of the best nights of my life. The next morning he tweeted back at me - I had that screenshot as my phone background for months! Long live Luke!

YAY Steve! Yes!....Being sober is where it's at. I really didn't start living until I stopped drinking. I also finally started knowing how and how to play guitar when I sobered up. I had been playing professionally for 15 years by the time I got sober. It's amazing how much power I had sober. And focus. I also started piling myself into God and Jesus. Man....my life truly opened up. I am blessed. I have been playing guitar for over 50 years and I am still continuing to learn something new on the guitar almost every day. God Bless you Steve.

*"But you are a societal problem . Passing judgement on anyone is not good"*
Your ignorance & superstition is the societal problem. Speaking up to challenge childish belief is a good thing to do.
There is *NOTHING* wrong with "passing judgment"! But you get one thing wrong, as so many of you do: it's the *IDEA* that I'm judging. It's a silly one.

I’ve been fortunate to have had about 4 conversations with Steve at various venues like the Baked Potato. He’s always been polite and never given me the bum’s rush like “I’m too important to be talking to you”. He’s signed CDs for me and even taken them to other guys he was playing with like David Garfield to make sure I had something special signed by as many of the artists as possible. Even got to hold onto his guitar as he was busy taking care of something on stage during a club gig. Makes me proud to be the owner of a Music Man Luke 1 with the Floyd Rose trem. He’s just my favorite guitar player. I appreciate his kindness and his sense of humor. Glad to hear things are going well. Love your song Run to Me. Makes me think of my kids and close friends. Losing too many friends as we get older. Gotta give ‘em love while we’re still together. Regrets don’t do any good when they’re gone. Live strong my brother.

Repenting is a big deal. No one is perfect and he was involved in a difficult place. Hendrix was famous for being fucjed up on stage and studio so he isn't alone , lots of rock stars went through it. Just watched a interview with Eric Clapton talking about it. I could have gone down that road of being a rock star, but God (his name is capitalized incidentally) didn't want that for me, He had other plans. Looks like fun on the outside, but ask anyone who went through it if they had it to do over again. Anyway I'm proud of Steve for having the courage to overcome. That's a big part of what were doing here. You can see the remorse written all over him. God bless you man!

To hear him admit his downfall and MAKING peace with it and MOVING ON to better himself takes great courage. I admire and respect him ever more for this. I hope to meet him in Philly one day. I’m sure the deaths of Jeff and Mike Porcaro played a part of this. They were like brothers and when you loose special guys like that, it hurts. And a failing marriage on top of that? Oh yeah, that will send any one spiraling, and the pressures of the business doesn’t help either. He was living the life but when shit happens, watch out! I’m just glad he’s still here. Textual criticism, archeology and many other fields of study provide a strong case for the reliability of the scriptures and the reality of God.
Forgive me if this is a little long but for clarity sake: The primary message of the Bible is the gospel of Jesus Christ, which is an offer of salvation because all have sinned in His sight and the wages of sin is death but not to those that humbly receive Gods offer of salvation by trusting in Him versus trusting in themselves to be made right in His sight. And that primary message is so utterly absurd that it's astounding that full grown adults actually believe it! Fortunately there isn't the slightest reason to think it's true. It is amazing what *indoctrination* can do to people, especially if they get you when you're young. Kids will believe anything adults tell them.

If I could talk to Steve, I would let him know that true forgiveness only comes from Jesus Christ through repentance and faith. It doesn't come from forgiving yourself. I pray he will find that path and become a new creation in Christ.

It's always nice to hear a testimony of a person finding peace with themselves and choosing to embrace God in their own way.
Not someone jamming God down your throat but allowing the person to come to their own thoughts of their path traveled much but seeing their going the wrong way.
It's sad because so many talk God the wrong way and many just stay away thinking their just trash.
I'm glad he found his revival in God and found a better path to walk.
Much blessings to you. We might not all get the revelation the same day but when we find it , it's because your ready to see something more then you didn't see before.

Life is about living and learning Luke. And having fun, and sharing love. And you have done all of that in spades. If it helps, God/Spirit, whatever you choose to call it, doesn’t forgive, because there is nothing to forgive. You lived and learned, and well done to you for that. Not everybody does that. And you honoured for the talent and inspiration that you are Luke. Stories proving that are always left in the comments on videos, just like this one. We love you. ❤️❤️

My wife and I had our wedding "reception" at the 'Baked Potato' venue on September 25, 2002. I wore my custom painted Toto "Turn Back" album cap. Steve was playing with his band "Doves of Peace" and he announced our presence that night in the studio audience! I have been to Toto concerts in 1982, 1985, 1990, 2000, 2001 (Taste of Newport Beach), and many more. I have every album, one of which is a still-sealed "The Seventh One" LP!

Wow! To so casually say, "I hang out with Ringo..." Mind blowing! Good job, Steve! It takes a bunch of humility to get to that place. Was in P.E. in high school with Steve and other members of Toto. Not knowing you were heading to the heights you did, It sure seemed there were a lot of lost kids doing whatever they wanted back in the days of Grant. For what it's worth and since this is titled, ..."Finding Peace With God..." For those struggling with addictions and themselves, no one can save you, but yourself. You have to be so sick of it that you snap out of it. In the Bible, Jeremiah 2:19, "Your own wickedness will correct you, And your backslidings will rebuke (correct) you." It's great to have friends and support. "The wounds of a friend are faithful, but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful." Kudos to your ex for being strong enough to speak truth to you. Keep rockin'! Thanks for all the great music and inspiration!
