One of the greatest players of all time.. an essential cog. Every great team had one of these players. In my opinion he was the best.. first on any team sheet
I agree he's one of the best midfielders of all time, he doesn't get the credit he deserves for how much of a food player he actually was. Most people like to brand him as a good leader and nothing more which is a pisstake.
Roy Keane's phenomenal footballing skills are quite often overlooked due to his determination and will to win. Losing was never an option for him, and he expected the same amount of effort from his teammates. Yes, he played hard, but he was also fair. He took as good as he gave, and he shunned the spotlight because he felt that giving his all was what he was supposed to do. There will never be another player like him, unfortunately, because soccer has changed so much, and it's now a business.
Roy Keane is up there with any of the great central midfielders this country has ever seen. Souness, Robson, Bremner, Giles and his peers like Viera, Gerrard and Lampard. Technically very sound, laser like passing with an insatiable desire to win at all costs, great player in any era.
Without a doubt prime Keane was better than the lot but falling out with Ferguson and the fact that he's Irish doesn't help his case but unfortunately there possible a million English Fans that can't stand the guy but he didn't do bad Winn 8 league titles,4 Fa cups,4 Charity Shields,2 league cups,1 Champions league,1 World club cup.
What they don't tell you is that Keane usually usually was retaliating when he got in trouble. Rarely was he out for blood; a player as talented as he was always has a target on their back, and the fight in him just made the target bigger. Love him or hate him, Keano was a warrior, and when he was provoked, he wouldn't hesitate to fight.
I think that's a fair comment. If you look at the people he had scraps with and who he kicked they weren't little playmakers or fullbacks. The likes of Shearer, Haaland (a VERY unpopular player even with his own teammates) Vieira, etc.... were all lads who could rough it up.
Maradonna said players like him were the future and this is when he was still with Nottingham Forest what a player imagine your most famous game is when u went up against Zidane ,Conte ,Deschamps all while knowing u wont play in the final .
Class player...a midfielder with bottle, heart , a engine, drive, man utd wouldnt of been half the team if he didnt play there, he demanded everyone to be a leader on the pitch but out of the leaders theres one who shows how its done and that was keane
Absolute working class hero. The video shows why he is the way he is and explains his disdain and attitude towards some modern day footballers during the latter parts of his career as a player and even as a pundit. He worked and HARD grafted his socks off to even get the smallest whiff of a chance to play in England. He didnt come from a place of privilege where these opportunities were readily available. What must have been going through his head when he had the chance to sign for Man utd from Nottingham Forest. This is why he turned into the machine of a midfielder he became, he knew how lucky he was and had to earn the right to play right up to the very end. His personal determination and drive pushed his teammates on. Man utd were lucky to have him and he was lucky to have Man Utd. Some people may scoff at this, but aside from his scuffles, he is an excellent example for young kids - grit, desire and determination to achieve his goals. You can bet, which ever team he was in he would have made the absolute most of it.
I think most of his scuffles were due to his background, his own personal ideals and morals on what is right and wrong on a personal as well as a professional level and is quite refreshing to have someone stick by that. It might not look go to some people but attributes like giving 100% no matter what to help his team, his teammates, and not embarrass the fans and his family no matter how he did it was the most impressive part. Brutally honest, no sugar coating and Man Utd will never forget his immense service to the club
One of his non-football traits I really like is his ability to speak the truth always no matter what. Very few people have that. It's difficult to face the truth. For a hard man like Roy it's no problem
Watch 1996 fa cup against Pool awasome performance hat it all passing, tackling, composure leadership seldom gives the ball away, for all his flaws he was one of the greatest ever make no mistake about it.
@@11ZFELIX Even the great Oak Tree let's it's branches bend in the wind, Keano never allowed his to bend and expected all to rise to his high standards even if they lacked the ability to do so, that my friend is a flaw in his character.
It's impossible to compare any other player to Roy Keane, because no one else had the desire, drive, commitment, passion, skill, determination, talent and sheer willpower that he had, and as the game as a whole is getting much less physical than it was, we'll probably never see the likes of him again.
@@seanandben Keane was definitely a lot quicker than Souness and a better header of the ball, however Souness dictated the tempo of the play in those great Liverpool sides of the 80s. It's a close thing as to who was the better player.
@@bernardjay379 I'm not doubting how talented Souness was as a player, but Keane also dictated the tempo of play among his many other attributes as a player. He also proved how well he could do it against the best in the world - for example, his total domination of the champions league away game to Juventus in 99/00 season where he totally dominated a midfield that included Zidane among others.
seanandben the game is way more physical now than it was then, stats show that players of today are running twice as hard and that’s evident from just watching a live match.
Amazing player, did the simple things right, fantastic motor but his best quality was galvanising all the players around him. Whether he likes it or not he was Sir Alex on the pitch
Keane was immense at Nottingham Forest. Also guided and managed in a certain way so the best could come from him. Got a clip from the great man as well.... Gutted when he left..... When at Manchester United he didn't get into the box like he did at Forest. But with all the options you can see why.....
Back in the days when the midfielder was expected to be box to box and have impact in attack, defence and setting the tempo. Keane and Vieira epitomised this role. Miss those days. Midfielders these days are more specialised but don't seem to be much better for it.
Mr. Keepitonthedeck I am not associated with any team as of now. If I purchase your Brain Game book would it help me develop team intellgence? If not, what would you recommend?
His first touch was ridiculously underrated. He could kill the ball and move it on so quickly with either foot.
