All I could thin of along the rolling shots: DO A LAUNCH! But then I remembered that this is build to last and were happy about beeing able to see it driving :D

Just a tip; stick Speaker magnet or a magnetic tray to the van chazis in the area you are working on while laying on the floor, that way, you can stick the tools to it and you're not always searching for them, itis pretty anoying I know by experience! Great work guys! Almost cryed when saw it running! Nice couple proyect!

Congrats... I know the feeling of finally getting the wheels to spin. I did it on a 1981 VW Rabbit Cabriolet. Same BMS and charger as you. (I wrote to you months ago about setting up the communication between the charger and the BMS.) I used a DC motor at between 144 and 172 VDC. My batteries are 144 cells, 72 ah set up as 3P48S.
After driving VW transporters on/off from T1 to T4 for years, I was always surprised by the early models high ground clearance. There is simply a lot of room underneath them. Especially when you remove all the ICE components. It's the perfect old vehicle for electric conversion.
Impressive and very good spirit. you are the future by reducing one of the most polluting source and then, fighting against the global warming. Bravo !

Relaible electric transportation has been a major hurdle for the world's switch to renewable energy, for a long time. New battery technologies are changing that. We might yet save the planet, and we might yet be able to drive our favorite classic vehicles with modern, clean technology too. I am by no means a fan of EV's but i have to say 3 things: 1. congratulations to make this thing work. I couldn't do this, since it 's a quite complicated electrical system.... 2. do some bulletproofing to the stock transmisson. The Tesla electric motor has a lot of torque, so it's likely that either the clutch or the transmission itself will cause problems in the near future. 3. (very important!) Please do an upgrade on the brakes! Like the transmission, they are not meant to stop this much power.
Do electric motors need clutches? No. Do electric cars need clutches? No. Why? Because unlike combustion engines, eletric motors can run from 0-many thousand rpm and aren't bound to a certain rpm rate. Using a frequency converter, you can drive an electric motor at 1 rpm. That's why eletric motors are mounted directly onto the gearbox.
Theoretically you are right, but remember, they have mounted the Motor to the original vw transmission. Unless they've already modified the transmission into a two gear transmission (forward and reverse) or just use one gear to drive forward and don't use the other gears at all, you are right. But if they didn't modify the transmission they are also loosing top speed and efficiency due to gear ratios.

Safety tip: always have the wheels flat on the floor underneath the van when you have it on the stands. The tyres should be doubled up, ie one tyre on top of another.

Impressive work... The T25/3 is an awesome van but it isnt very crash proof for your legs... Be sure to instal C02 fire extinguishers.

besides, in the video they say they have 3 gears. (14:55) so they need the clutch to change the gears.
