The single most absurd run I ever had in Void War to date was the one-man-army boarding tactic. It was never meant to BE that but it developed into one: I played as the Exile, and he starts with the innate translocator. You pick where on the enemy ship he goes and can recall any time. Can be risky but also supremely powerful. I started off by hopping into the command-throne room of the enemy, always a small 1x1 room, and killing the enemy commander right away. Then every other crew that was there was FORCED to come over one by one to fight him to take back control. Early on, this works wonders. Then I found the Hellfire blade early on that made him much, much harder to kill: he was now up to 6 DPS and immune to the fire he started with every kill. I started sending him into medium 2x1 rooms instead to fry systems and kill crew faster. And then... I randomly got the pile of skulls in a drop. Quote: "This 'ship system' will give the commander +10 DPS for 30 seconds at the start of an encounter." 30 seconds with 16 DPS is more than enough. I melted whole ship's worth of crew rather quick, only struggling with the big guys that took a while to kill. I got Siege Armor that made him even more durable and immune to suffocation. I got him the fortress shield that reduced enemy DPS by 1, and gave him 1. I was now at 17 for 30 seconds. And then... I found ANOTHER pile of skulls in a shop. Obviously I had to see if these stack??? Guess what. They do. 27 DPS for 30 seconds from the start of every single encounter. Also, the third ship-modification slot? The one that grants the comamdner 50% movement speed. I don't think I'll ever get that lucky ever again. From this moment onwards, anything I did with my ship, any upgrade, and added crew, any new weapon, it was all for show. The guns were used to finish off possessed ships that the Exile had ravaged from the inside already, or to just nuke heavily damaged ships I did not wish to risk him in - I have lost runs due to commanders being onboard enemy ships when they blow up, before. The first 30 seconds of the boss-fight he depleted the population of the whole ship room by room and triggered the no-crew crisis when a daemon-heart takes it over the ship. He wrecked the shields and got recalled as my full arsenal unloaded to shave a quarter of the ship's HP away each volley. It was the cleanest run I ever had. No-one on my crew ever died or saw personal combat. 28 enemy ships were depopulated, 8 were destroyed. The only run that's got a higher score was the death-barge necromancer run that I got supremely lucky in regarding crew I got. I could share that later on request. TL:DR; Void War has a LOT of cool and absurd builds and runs one can make, a very good mechanical separation from FTL as opposed to just thematic. This game is not 'just a 40K clone of FTL' it's quite a lot deeper than that.
@@camdengoss6326 Exception: With the Hull-reaper, you can spent time eating the empty enemy ship's HP and adding it to your own as free repairs. It's what I do in every run where I get the Hull Reaper and have any HP damage.

In regards to Boarding, I can understand why you like it more in this game than FTL; In FTL there's only 3 races that really work for boarding: Human, Mantis, and Rock. Humans are average with middling health and damage, Mantis are powerful but squishy, and Rocks are tanky but so slooooooow. And there's not much you can do about it, sure you can use an Augment slot for Mantis Pheromones or the Human weapons but Augment slots are limited and there is always something more valuable to slot. Sure you can use Mind Control to help with boarding but that's temporary, requires Power, and takes a system slot. Meanwhile in this game, you can customise your boarders with weapons, armour and sometimes equipment. Letting you specialise some boarders into specific roles. Combine this with the ability to select what square they can stand on, without the tile/room dancing in FTL, you can spec one boarder into a close range jugganught with powerful melee and strong Armour. While another can be made into a multi-hitting, long range blaster. Now combine all that with Equipment or Psychic abilities, like that 15 point damage attack from the captain or the Teleport your crew member has, and the ability to PLACE systems yourself, letting you have potentially 4 boarders to a pod, and you end up with a much more involved and comprehensive boarding system.
You forgot Crystal and Lanis as really good boarders. Crystal are faster than Rock and tougher than Humans, but the best part they have the ability to temporary isolate rooms. Lanis on the other hand can board airless ships or suffocate anybody but their own species. And Rock have something that you forgot to mention, the don't care about fire, and that gives you opportunity to support them with weapons that ignite enemy ships.
@@uguuwuu6882 they're awesome. i love zoltan gameplay in mutiverse game. i don't agree that boarding is hard in original FTL. Level 3 mindcontrol+single boarding is very strong. i think larger problem with regular FTL boarding is the COST to board. boarding is super expensive in regular FTL because there is only 3 ways to board The first and most effective way to board is Lanius boarding. the gimmick to summon a rocket at Oxygen or bomb and suffocate everything. this is super strong because every single factrions loses to 0 oxygen in original FTL. It is arguably best form of boarding because it uses boarding as form of mindcontrol aka you can kill captain of ship and make your weapons better BUT you can also easily crew kill to get $ in the game. it is super cost effective boarding which is why Lanius boarding is kinda only good form of boarding in original FTL. The second way to board is fire boarding with 2 rockmen. this is as good as oxygen boarding BUT the problem with it IS SETUP. in regular FTL. you need roll a TORCH beam or fire bomb which is EXTREME rng to get and by the time you can board properly with this setup, you likely already have gunship setup where boarding is irrelevant towards winning. Basically expense here is really high to board. The final way to board is Mantis boarding. Mantis boarding is boarding is best with Drone system and Anti-personal drone. you can use Anti-personal drone +defensive drone with mind control and dominate ship crews very easily. the problem is that first, you need drone system. 2 you need mind control and 3 you need correct drones to do this. original FTL does not have drone retrieve device. you have spend drones part to board so it is not lucrative to board because main advantage of boarding is getting extra money but with all investment into leveling up teleporter, buying drone controls and having mind control, the cost isn't really worth its use. that is why gunship are much easier to play in original FTL because Hacking is really overpowered. Cloaking is insanely strong and mindcontrol is great safety net to counter enemy mindcontrol or you can use drone system to have unlimited offence or you can play federation ship which auto give you an offensive system the setup to gunship in regular FTL is super easy but RNG required to board is super high. that is why a lot of boarding tends to be like... early game focused where you do it in like sector 1, sector 2 and than boarding is kinda after thought unless you play into above 3 strategies. 1/8 factions being good for boarding makes it niche strategy on top of the large gold-sink to board +extra micro skill required to board vs just press 1 2 3 4 on a ship and ship dies. with that being said, this games boarding is obviously very easy.. he's literally pressing boarding on 2 overpowered crew members and deleting every ship. this is also FAIRLY early. like he's region 2 with godlike boarding. something that doesn't happen in original FTL, at least not on hard mode.
small note: while i'm not sure as I haven't played yet but the interface where you load in crew to the boarding "sled" implies that, having the upgraded the system, you can load in more than 2 crew even if your boarding system is in a 2 cell room, as in with a fully upgraded system you can load in two, then more two more into the room and load those 2. At least the way the interface implied in the previous videos I saw, plus the upgrade text from the boarding system.
The Thirsting blade seems so strong, healing 10 hp on each kill is insane when there are so many low hp enemies in every ship. If placed on one of the knights he would become nigh unkillable.
