    I'm a bus driver, this guy needs to loose his licence, he forcibly used his companies 12 tonne bus as a object to push a cyclist off the road, red light runner or not, driver was very dangerous, cyclist could have ended up under the rear wheel or head on in to a lamp post. Report to the TFL and police. AND STOP RUNNING RED LIGHTS

    Can't believe people regard an amateur road user - a cyclist - running a red light (which I agree he shouldn't do) as if it were equally serious, or more serious, than a professional PCV driver deliberately driving a double decker bus at a vulnerable road user. Jumping the red light is an offence which, quite rightly, isn't going to be prosecuted or pursued because police and prosecuters have better things to do with their day. But the bus driver's conduct ought to be regarded by his employer as gross misconduct. I don't know about anyone else, but the language alone that the bus driver uses would be enough to get me sacked.

    I can't believe how many comments here are defending the bus driver. He deliberately steered his 6 tonne bus towards the kerb and would have pushed this cyclist off his bike and possibly under the rear wheels of the bus almost certainly killing him, if the cyclist hadn't 'bunny hopped' on to the pavement. Why did the bus driver do this? If you stop the video at 2:03 you see a black SUV, which is blocking the outside lane and for the bus driver to get to the back of queue at the next set of lights 100 yards ahead, as soon as possible, he needs to occupy the full width of the inner lane. The bus is 'out of service' carrying no passengers and the driver isn't stopping to pick up passengers either. He is simply bullying the cyclist out of the way, because he wants to occupy that lane to get to the lights asap, where the cyclist will pass him again anyway! There are also no other cyclists behind J W (watch the video from 2:10 when the bus stops and you'll see the next cyclist passes at 2:30), so our bus driver could have safely moved into the inside lane immediately behind J W delaying his urgent appointment with the back of the queue by only a couple of seconds.
    Some comments claim J W passed a red light at 1:23 as the lights didn't change until 1:25. If you stop the video at 1:20 as J W approaches the lights you can see there are two vehicles illegally occupying the bike box. J W slows down and moves to the safest position just ahead of these two cars on the left of the road, so as not to unnecessarily obstruct them. Before he comes to a complete stop the lights change and so he accelerates away.
    Cyclists do kill pedestrians (about 3 per year), but to my knowledge no cyclist has ever managed to kill a driver as they are protected by a metal box, seat belts and air bags. Drivers on the other hand kill about 1800 people a year twitter.com/i/status/1148622845695557632 So please stop this nonsense about cyclists endangering other road users, unless a pedestrian is involved. I appreciate that drivers are frustrated when cyclists make faster progress in traffic than they do and that cyclists can sometimes delay them, but most of the congestion is due to all the larger vehicles, not the cyclists. If you're a bus driver you have to drive a bus, but for those driving themselves the solution is simple. Use a bicycle rather than a car and your journey will be quicker, cheaper, healthier and a lot less frustrating!

      Cleo Macy dumb yes, but would he have killed someone? Remember too, most of this infrastructure obviously tossed in bike lanes as an afterthought. In my city lights don’t get triggered by bicycles so we constantly have to run them. That bus driver could have driven behind the cyclist and pulled over for his passengers 1/2 a second later. I drive commercial trucks in America, if they know how to drive over there too they know you should always be checking your mirrors, and your responsibility isn’t to enforce traffic laws by trying to kill cyclists. It’s to protect your vehicle and prevent accidents from happening in the first place. Police would eventually talk to the cyclist, not your job. Never your job to enforce traffic laws, just adapt to the conditions and drive accordingly with safety as the priority.

      Unfortunately, a lot of old farts and hags on the road seem to still believe in the false idea that "the road is for motor vehicles only with at least four wheels", therefore, bikes (and sometimes motorbikes) aren't considered part of that. It's the same reason why people still believe in the fictional "road tax" (which hasn't existed since at least 1937).

The cyclist was run off the road in the cycle lane and all you mfers can talk about is how the bicyclist ran a red light beforehand. If he was in a car outside the bus and cycle lane and he was ran off the road, it would clearly be the fault of the person who ran them off the road. You car-brain mfers just can't fathom a driver being at fault for the risks faced by the cyclist. Double-standards.

Bottom line is it doesn’t matter if you think your in the right if your /being scraped off the road due to being flattened. You are extremely vulnerable on a bike and should cycle defensively at all times. In my opinion all cyclists should be trained and have passed a test. So many cyclists are a danger to themselves and all other road users including other cyclists.
    There should also be separate cycle paths. It is concerning that there is house building going on all over the country and the roads and pathways that are being built by the developers still do not account for cyclists. This should be mandatory.

      Mr Smith83 yeah, most don’t realize that if bike infrastructure is shitty sometimes cyclists need to manage risk. In places where roads are just engineered for cars and bikes are an afterthought Ike here waiting for the light may come with the risk of being ran over by motorists, whereas you may be safe passing through the light to get a head start on all that traffic.
      How many times do people say “I didn’t see that cyclist” well, if he runs that light you noticed didn’t you?
      Anti-bike people can’t put themselves in any bodies shoes aside from their own selfish little world.
      The fact remains a bicyclist is far more exposed to danger. Motorists should do well to remember that.
      In fact before the automobile became mainstream the car was the one getting all the hate, you can find stuff online about the early automobile and the killing spree it had. Did that ever stop? No. Auto deaths are an epidemic. From sedentary diseases to traffic accidents, they’re deadly AF and expensive AF to everything around them. And that can be backed by solid evidence.
      Bicyclists aren’t killing people, it’s the other way around.

    • @chris1275cc
      @chris1275cc 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bingo. like I've been saying for years. If motorists want us to do what they don't and obey the laws/rules 100% of the time. Then they need to practice what they preach and stop putting us in positions where we have to perform split second risk assessments, and be forced to chose between our physical and legal safety. I would have done the exact same thing as this cyclist, EVEN if it was a hard red I would have gone forward of the line and stopped in the crossing (as long as there was nobody on it) I don't want to do these things, if I trusted the car drivers to respect my right to be there, read the situation and have a little patience I would happily stop between them at the line, but I don't, so I wont. I suppose not wanting to die makes me arrogant, entitled etc....etc.

    So many four wheeled warriors on here who have a problem with cyclists. For the record, vehicle tax doesn't exist. It's a vehicle emissions tax. And even if cyclists were subject to it, by not producing any emissions they don't have to pay it. Cyclists have every right to be on the road. No type of vehicle has a monopoly. Just leave your ego at home, calm down and we can all share the road safely.

      Charlie Woodall I'd have gone to the back of the bus and hit the emergency stop button that cuts the engine out, all buses have them and they turn the bus off for a wee while, those precious seconds he gained from trying to kill the cyclist will be lost and when he needs to explain to his bosses why he was delayed they'll review the cctv on board and see why it was done.

    The bus overtakes you,and even before he has passed you he is pulling in and slowing down. This should be an instant dismissal,or at least he needs to be retrained. Can he not see the danger he was putting the cyclist in. I don't know how the cyclist had the restraint not to jump on that bus. The fucking stupid bus driver needs a good hiding. Some of the comments on this are pathetic,they are actually blaming the cyclist for this manoeuvre. I know some cyclists can be annoying sods,but that does not mean that they should be fucking executed.

      That's exactly what they are - I find that on most stretches of road, if I'm doing anything with the car (25mph on tight rural roads), I'm leaving the MAMILs for dead once I get the opportunity to overtake. Bikes are slow and inefficient - I find that walking is much more efficient (very flexible and quick to get going with by comparison to cycling) in urban areas. Also, it must be considered that the road space that cyclists take up should include the road space denied to motorists in front of them - holding up traffic artificially creates empty road space beyond and thus, cycling does take up an awful lot of space and is hence, is inefficient!

If the price of oil goes through the roof, so too will the price of food. It is also safe to say that delaying traffic in general also increases costs including the cost of goods. You need to get real.

    This is the frustrating thing about cyclists in London and UK cities to a lesser extent. Our system is not designed for cyclists. There is always the issue of larger quicker modes of transport causing a risk to slower more vulnerable modes. Having said that one of the comments referenced a good example of cycle lanes as Amsterdam. Many cyclists there pose a risk to less mobile pedestrians as they just ring their bell and carry on at high speed without paying much attention to pedestrians. Similarly pedestrians have been killed in the UK by cyclists on pavements, as many cycle on them, even though the law prohibits them from cycling on pavements. They are aloud to cycle on areas that look like pavements though, which is confusing, such as cycle paths adjacent to pavements. In other words cyclists regularly break rules (not all cyclists of course) which pose a risk to and annoy others, as the cyclist did here riding straight through a red light while all the other traffic is sat patiently, which is unequivocally illegal. Riding a bicycle clearly gives one the right to move through slow/parked traffic in a legal fashion, but not an illegal one. He was on the road (public highway) and he should follow the rules accordingly. Clearly the bus driver put him at risk and I understand his frustration regarding that. However, he cycles through red lights and posts this online as though he has done nothing wrong. This is typical of some cyclists, particularly in London in my experience. When cyclists behave as they are meant to on roads others are more likely to behave as they are meant to. There is a sense amongst most road users that some cyclists think the rules don't apply to them, and this poster is a good example.

    • @badegg3210
      @badegg3210 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      More often than not though, don't you think that the problem is that most road users are simply ignorant of the rules of the road and what is expected of them and other road users? And as you also indicated, a general lack of observance towards what's going on around them? For example, surely this could have been avoided if the driver had gained a reasonable enough distance ahead of the cyclist before he pulled into the lane?

    That street is such a design error. A bus lane is made so buses aren't hindered by traffic and they can reach their stops in time. A cycle lane is made so cyclists don't get mixed in with larger mass and speed of vehicles, reducing the amount of (deadly) incidents and increasing the attractiveness to choosing cycling over the car/public transit. These two should never interfere with each other unless it's a bus stop, in which case it should have extra attention to markings so both sides know what to do.
