Also, I don't know if they generally give you good health insurance or it depends who you work with? That's something concerns me the most when choosing a career.
I’ve been a massage therapist for 10 years and the burn out is real. I was super passionate in the beginning and wanted to learn everything about massage. I had to switch jobs several times for higher pay because this industry will take advantage of you! My best advice is to aim for high pay and less hours. I work in an area where clients are very generous with tips. I only have to work 3 days a week (while I work on building an online business) I overworked myself in the beginnings and I paid for it later on. Most people want deep tissue, but working somewhere that allows you to diversify (scrubs, reiki, craniosacral, etc..) is a game changer!

Hi Kat!!so happy to have you here ❤️ and I think one day I discovered that I just wanted to enjoy my job and grow in an industry I’m passionate about..even if it meant changing the direction I was in!
What a great video! You have a lovely presence ;-). I'm thinking of a career change to massage therapy. My major hesitation is my age. By the time I'd start the massage program, I'd be 47 years old! Also, I don't have the best wrists, so I worry about that. But I am pretty healthy, in good cardio shape (combo of dance , long walks and lots of yoga). I also would just want to work part-time. Do you see others like me in the program? Thanks for this informational video
I do! I think if you use the right body mechanics you should be alright. Most of massaging is using your body weight. It’s also good to do weight lifting to build strength and work on your wrist!
Hi Jackie, Thank you for posting the pros and cons of being an LMT. I'm considering going to massage therapy school in the future. I've been told that working as an LMT it's very physical, and the burnout is real. I have been a certified nursing assistant for the past 14 years, and I understand the burnout part. I wonder if becoming an LMT will benefit me since I've worked as a certified nursing assistant. With that job, I do an ALOT OF PHYSICAL work and plenty of heavy lifting. I'm just wanting for more of a "peaceful" work environment. I would appreciate your feedback. Thank you!!💜 BTW you're gorgeous, and your cat is so cute.
Thank you for reaching out Jennifer! 💗 being a massage therapist can be tiring but it’s all about listening to your body and not pushing yourself too hard! We actually have a lot of nurses who are also massage therapists. And it’s great because they already know so much about the body and anatomy. It would be a great job for you 😊😊 very fulfilling and if you do a lot of self care, it shouldn’t be that tiring for you!
@@JackieEm Thank you, Jackie for reaching out. That's good to hear that nurses are LMT as well. Working as an LMT would be like a vacation for me. 😃💞💜 Thank you, again!!!
since massage therapy isn’t a retiring type of job, can you go more in-depth on what to do after? i really want to be a message therapist but i also want to have a plan on what to do after and i don’t know what to plan/where to look.
It can be a retiring job! I’ve been around therapist who have been in the industry 20+ years and are doing well and plan to stay. What I have noticed in their massages is they are careful with their pressure and body mechanics. You don’t need a lot of pressure or vigorous techniques to release muscles.
Hi ines! It can range from 6 months to 12 months depending on your program! This is just how it was in my school. I went to the San Francisco school for massage and Bodywork
Hi Jackie, thank you very much for your info. Anyway, do massage therapists have to work after 17pm or on weekends? Is it possible to choose a schedule like 10am-17pm on weekdays and no weekends?
Hi! So my spa closes at 5 or 6pm. So we don’t work late however it depends where you work! Some places close later but you should be able to choose your schedule! Massage therapy is a pretty flexible job when it comes to schedule ☺️ as far as weekends, most massage places want you to work like one day on the weekend or every other weekend.
@@JackieEm I’m not but am wanting to go back to school and plan to in the spring to get my massage certificate. I want to work in hospice and thought about nursing but I think massage aligns more with my belief system. And Massage has always been in the back of my mind.
Hi Lauren! Great question! Massage in itself is definitely not new age :) but if you incorporate chakra kind of philosophies and things like that, then it can be kind of new age. I am a Christian so I do not have any of those Philosophies in my work
@@JackieEm thanks for answering my question! :) Do you think it's easy for most massage therapists to find a job right out of school? At a spa or clinic etc or is it difficult? Thank you
Thank you so much! This video was perfect and had answers for questions I didn’t even know to ask! I’m currently a junior in college majoring in graphic design with a minor in theatre. For some reason I’ve been randomly thinking about a career in message therapy and now I think I want to give it a try after college! My only question is do I need to attend college for this job and is it is expensive?
Hi there!! I think it’d be great to go to massage school after you finish college:) you don’t need to attend another college to become a massage therapist. You can apply to a massage school or program! And it really depends with the pricing. It can range from $8,000 to $16,000!
@@JackieEm I dont want to do college. I like how its an active job for your body and you can make people feel good and also make tips. I just hope id be good at it considering i dont ever give massages 😅
I never gave a massage in my life before going to massage school for 9 months and I had no issues it was such a great learning environment and I got hired right out of school at massage heights (20$/hr) plus tips. I know that's pretty low for some but I'm just doing it part time to help pay for school as a side gig and it's a very relaxing environment if you love working one on one with others but labor intensive (just have good body mechanics and you'll be fine) but for me I don't want to do it in the long run not sustainable forever so that's why I'm having a second career option, but anyways good luck 🤞 and sorry for writing so much 😅
what about piercings & tattoos? i have 5 facial piercings (that i consider to be cute & dainty) & several tattoos… do most places frown upon hiring more “alternative” therapists? 🤔
It is possible! Depending on how severe the back pain is. However you would probably like to specialize in a type of massage that isn’t too strenuous on the body. (Light Swedish, Orthobionomy, craniosacral therapy, )
Hi Jessie! Yes there are a lot with plus size bodies! It is actually an advantage because those with larger bodies can use their weight when massaging!
I am really considering being an RMT, I am very interested in it and think I would be great! only thing is I REALLY struggled with school in the past and have my doubts that I will be able to handle the course load. Any tips? Do you think it would be worth it for someone like me who struggled in the past? I don't want to feel hopeless.
Hi Hannah! Thank you for sharing that 😊 I honestly think you would do great in massage school! Of course there is anatomy classes but a lot of what we learn is hands on. And the classes aren’t too challenging. We had students from all different learning backgrounds and this is a very supportive environment! If you find yourself really enjoying massage, I think you can definitely do it! Put your mind and heart into it and it will be worth it!
Hi there! Hmmm well School ranges from 8k to 15k here in California! And then there are extra fees for applying for your license and taking the mblex test!
i sometimes feel my massage therapist is just standing there with her hand lying on my leg. Btw if someone has tight adductors you wont help him because that can cause sexual arousal?
That’s weird because massage therapists shouldn’t just stand there..sorry you had to deal with that! And massage therapists shouldn’t cross boundaries so they usually wouldn’t work on adductors
Hi! Now that I’ve been a massage therapist longer, I’ve realized you can work until you’re in your 60s. I actually have a couple of older therapists at my job! You just have to be really on top of your health and be active!
If you can't really retire as a massage therapist why not just do it as a side job for a LONG time and build your base? Like literally doing 3-5 massages? Or is that not REALISTIC? lol...
You can wear makeup but most people just put a little or nothing. I wear a little Since I like makeup but it’s a pretty active job so you might sweat a little. If you wear a mask while working it could also mess up your makeup
Well a lot of ppl don’t share their exact o come on TH-cam but maybe a rough estimate. You may be surprised, some people on the internet aren’t very nice and could use that info against you!

I do! I think if you use the right body mechanics you should be alright. Most of massaging is using your body weight. It’s also good to do weight lifting to build strength and work on your wrist!
Hi Jackie,
Thank you for posting the pros and cons of being an LMT. Thank you!!💜
BTW you're gorgeous, and your cat is so cute.
Oh and thank you💗 and yes my cat is adorable haha!
@@JackieEm
Thank you, Jackie for reaching out.
Hi there! I’m actually planning to make a more in depth video about this soon so I’ll send it to you as soon as possible!! 🥰
You can be an acupuncturist .
@@boominglove great idea!
@@JackieEm esthetics is good too. dual certification will be a great asset
It can be a retiring job! I’ve been around therapist who have been in the industry 20+ years and are doing well and plan to stay. What I have noticed in their massages is they are careful with their pressure and body mechanics. You don’t need a lot of pressure or vigorous techniques to release muscles.
Thanks for this video 🙏🏼
Loved the Ending reminded me so much of my self 🤣🤣🤣❤️❤️❤️
Thank you! Are you a massage therapist too? :)
@@JackieEm Yes I Am🤗😍💞
How long is the schooling?
Do you have any knowledge of the use of massage as palliative care with hospice patients?
Hi Brittney! I actually don’t but would love to learn. Are you a massage therapist ?
@@JackieEm I’m not but am wanting to go back to school and plan to in the spring to get my massage certificate. I want to work in hospice and thought about nursing but I think massage aligns more with my belief system. And Massage has always been in the back of my mind.
@@britj14 yes that is an awesome plan! Especially to have a specific niche :)
I worked in hospice for a year. I had one particular client that I worked with until the end. It's very rewarding work.
@@MsRecoveryroom thanks for the feedback, I appreciate it!!
I'm thinking about going back to school for massage therapy but I'm wondering about the philosophies behind it. Is it very "new age"?
Thank you
thank you for helpful vidio! i also change my job not that long!
i want to know what are difference between RMT(canada) or LMT(USA)?
Hi Lilly! I’ll definitely look into this since I’m not too sure about canadian massage therapists! I’ll make a video about this soon!
@@JackieEm thank you so much♡
I like that song on your end card. Name?
I love massages
Me too!
@@JackieEm yikes I’m from ny so I’m sure it’ll be in the more expensive range. Do you know how long this school or program is?
@@greengoblin4life I went to school in SF which is a super expensive city and paid $9,000! So for me it wasn’t too expensive :) program was 11 months!
@@JackieEm is there anything I should know prior to starting massage school or any college classes I could take to give me a head start?
ive never given a massage but i still wanna go into school lol
That’s awesome! What makes you want to start massage therapy? 🥰
I know that's pretty low for some but I'm just doing it part time to help pay for school as a side gig and it's a very relaxing environment if you love working one on one with others but labor intensive (just have good body mechanics and you'll be fine) but for me I don't want to do it in the long run not sustainable forever so that's why I'm having a second career option, but anyways good luck 🤞 and sorry for writing so much 😅
@@forlornhauntedghost thanks:))
what about piercings & tattoos? i have 5 facial piercings (that i consider to be cute & dainty) & several tattoos… do most places frown upon hiring more “alternative” therapists? 🤔
Honestly I don’t think that matters when becoming a massage therapist! A lot of my classmates had piercings and tattoos
new subscriber here. I love your channel and what you do. May I know where in San Francisco did you go to for Massage Therapy?
Hi Elton! Welcome to the channel ☺️ I went to San Francisco school of massage !
I want to become a massage therapist but i have back problems. Would that be possible?
It is possible! Depending on how severe the back pain is. However you would probably like to specialize in a type of massage that isn’t too strenuous on the body. (Light Swedish, Orthobionomy, craniosacral therapy, )
I just got the my nerves burt in my lower back because I stay in so much pain.
I’m sorry to hear that! Have you found a massage therapist?
No not yet.
I need one I hurt all over. Lot of stress.
Hopefully you can find a massage therapist nearby!
So helpful! Thank you! (and my name is Jacque too! (I spell it differently lol)
You’re welcome ☺️ let me know if you have other questions! More massage videos coming soon!
Great! Thank
You.
You’re welcome! Let me know if you have any questions!

Are there many plus size massage therapists? I want to go to school for Massage But I rarely hear of the experiences of ppl in larger bodies.
Hi Jessie! Yes there are a lot with plus size bodies! It is actually an advantage because those with larger bodies can use their weight when massaging!
Very nice video💐✨💙
Thank you 😊
I am really considering being an RMT, I am very interested in it and think I would be great! only thing is I REALLY struggled with school in the past and have my doubts that I will be able to handle the course load.
Hi I'm anil Sharma massage therapist and Kerala ayurvedic panchkarma treatment and experience massage is 19 years any vecancy

Yeah depends where you work:)
Great video! Thanks:) How much is too much to pay for a massage therapy license? I’m in Indiana and I’ve seen 10k-20k
Hi there! Hmmm well School ranges from 8k to 15k here in California! And then there are extra fees for applying for your license and taking the mblex test!
Salam kenal sukses selalu
Hello there 🥰🥰
Thanks for video it s interesting, cute cat as well :)
Thank you ☺️☺️

i sometimes feel my massage therapist is just standing there with her hand lying on my leg. Btw if someone has tight adductors you wont help him because that can cause sexual arousal?
That’s weird because massage therapists shouldn’t just stand there..sorry you had to deal with that! And massage therapists shouldn’t cross boundaries so they usually wouldn’t work on adductors
A beautiful woman like u shouldnt have issues with clients
Haha doesn’t happen too often!
Nice
Thanks!
What’s your MBTI

Wait so what do you mean you can’t work as a massage therapist until your 60s?
Hi! Now that I’ve been a massage therapist longer, I’ve realized you can work until you’re in your 60s. I actually have a couple of older therapists at my job! You just have to be really on top of your health and be active!
Is it possible to get a certification online for becoming a massage therapist?
Hi there! I don’t think so. Since it’s a hand on job, you’d have to attend schooling in person :)
@@JackieEm oh ok thanks. I'll keep looking into it ☺
I am a massage therapist. I am from India. Can I work with you. There is any job for me. Reply please
If you have all the requirements in the state you live in, you can work right away!
Dress up is not a con for me. I work in the medical field, I wear scrubs all the time.
I feel it! I made this video almost a year ago and have completely different point of view :) it’s definitely not a con anymore!
Cannot dressup literally a cons!!!
If you can't really retire as a massage therapist why not just do it as a side job for a LONG time and build your base? Like literally doing 3-5 massages? Or is that not REALISTIC? lol...
That video will be posted today where I go more in depth on it!

Hi!
Talking more personal issue than the title.
Thanks for sharing!
Why can't you wear make up?
You can wear makeup but most people just put a little or nothing. I wear a little
Since I like makeup but it’s a pretty active job so you might sweat a little. If you wear a mask while working it could also mess up your makeup
Wait, why is it strange to see how much you make on TH-cam I’m confused? Will people take that information and use it against you? Lol.
Well a lot of ppl don’t share their exact o come on TH-cam but maybe a rough estimate. You may be surprised, some people on the internet aren’t very nice and could use that info against you!
You did all this to not say how much you make 🙄
around $60,000 a year
plus my side clients so add a few thousand to that.
