Dracula won't appear in Maria mode because he doesn't want the embarrassment of taking another L against the girl who fast-balled a pigeon directly into his head, killing him instantly like the last time
I love how the immediate instinct of anyone that goes public with piracy is to beg Nintendo not to sue them, even if Nintendo was not involved with the game's existence in the slightest
I love how maria was basically a disney princess in rondo, but for sega saturn sotn they decided that it was better to make her a fuckin yu yu hakusho character
18:06 Igarashi for real looked at Imps locking people in place for 30 seconds and was like "Hell yeah that's not annoying make them do that every time from now on"
It's less a question of how she gets around safely while in the castle and more how the castle gets on safely while she's in it. Spoiler alert, it doesn't.
Maria is soo fun to play as in the Saturn version. Although I understand why they changed her to be more like her Rondo of Blood incarnation in the later releases, it's still sad that we never got "Ultra Instinct" Maria again! At least we have the translation patch and the enhancement patch now! EDIT: And now we have the Meduza ultimate edition patch!!!
The adult Maria as a martial fighter makes so much more sense honestly. As a child she's been using her magical powers as a crutch, and now she's complimenting her physical prowess with them. I'd like it much more if Konami left her kicks and dashes intact.
The great thing about you being a treasure that's doing this for 10 years is that you can pull relics like Shoop da Whoop and get me into the existential void too.
through the last 20+ years I have come to the conclusion that Castlevania: symphony of the night is an infinite game and we will continue to find new stuff in all of its versions for the next 100 years.
Oh man I never got to experience the game with Maria - would love to replay the game again with her moveset - lots of fun movement options and spells to essentially blitz through the castle
Though this specific version of Maria is only playable in the Saturn version. Modern ports use the PSP version, in which she plays completely different
I hope this video blows up. I like the new style of videos on your main channel, even though they definitely take more time to make it is always a treat when they pop up.
Four beast spell caught my attention. Looked like tiger, phoenix, turtle and dragon. Which are the 4 totem gods of a game called Nexus TK which is based on Korean Mythology. Baekho = tiger. Ju Jak = Phoenix. Hyun moo = turtle and Chung Ryong = Dragon. They're the same colors too. After doing some research that's exactly what these are though these ones are based on off Chinese mythology. Either way found it interesting.
Huh. You reminded me of the four guardians of Filgaia from the Wild Arms games. Fengalon (Tiger), Moa Gault (Phoenix), Stoldark (Turtle), and Gurdijeff (Dragon).
I still wish we got this maria in the requiem version. A perfect combination of martial arts and summoning magic is literally such a cool idea to me and definitely seems like a natural evolution of her play style in rondo of blood.
I was wondering what Maria is like in action in other games. Only reference is from _Castlevania: Grimoire of Souls._ Because of the magic of the grimoires, you have a whole cast of CV characters being manifested, from Simon and Trevor Belmont, to Maria, to Shanoa, Albus, and beyond. On top of that, there are TWO versions of Maria! 12yo version of her is a primary character, but her 17yo version is in the form of Alter Arts (characters you can tag in and play as for about 30s at a time).
The fact that we never got Maria, until we did get Maria, but that version was a completely different version, makes me feel so robbed. Not to mention the other two secret areas (even if they were barely anything except a boss fight).
In Japan, these gods are known as Seiryuu or Seiryō (Qinglong), Suzaku or Sujaku (Zhuque), Byakko (Baihu), and Genbu (Xuanwu). The four animals she uses
I mean seeing Maria so OP gives the scene after the fight with GreenBall\Richter a new meaning Alucard: I'm going to deal with this Maria: Yeah, I guess you need the XP
I never liked playing with the side show characters. Their movement is so eratic and doesn't fit the overall idea Konami had in mind when designing the games around the main characters. Also the lack of items and cutscenes makes those runs kinda empty and boring. Every Castlevania since Symphony of the Night has that "special character mode". I'd understand if they designed the areas to fit the movement of all characters in different ways. Like with X and Zero in Mega Man X4. Playing with either of them makes the game feel different yet the stages and boss fights work for both.
oh man the movement looks so cool in this run. great work. im curious. does she have any upgrades or unlocks in a casual run? fantastic video and explanation.
She works the same as Richter, HP Ups and Heart Ups add +10 to their respective stats and you get a boost in damage from defeating certain bosses plus anothet boost after completing the first castle.
That strimmer from twitch sent me here to say pee pee poo poo. In all seriousness, I'm looking forward to seeing you get the wr in Maria any% in the future.
its crazy to me how games like this don't exist anymore, the amount of charisma in this game is insane. it really does feel like we lived in the golden age of gaming and its long since past.
...Wow, I think the Saturn version answers the main question I had when playing SOTN, "How does Maria get around the castle so easily?" Like a bat out of hell, apparently.
Ah yes, mix all uppers, downers, and every prohibited substance in the planet and you get to be the most dangerous predator. Pair that with an indestructible body, the power of anime, and the ability to phase in and out of existence you might just beat Maria.
"please don't sue me Nintendo for emulating a Sega console port of a Konami game that never came out on a Nintendo platform" I know it's probably a meme but still funny.
Nintendo used to be *extremely* litigious when it came to emulation. They were actively and aggressively persuing emulation sites, rom rippers etc. well into the GC era. They've calmed down a lot now they aren't the top console manufacturer.
One thing I cannot STAND in SOTN is all the useful button commands that are tough as nails to pull off....especially on a regular playstation controller....like the part where you keep doing the double jump under the librarian chair to get some useful equipment I for the life of me cannot keep my guy jumping over and over again without hitting the floor and that drove me nuts I'm still stuck because of that one part lol
Look for the Shield Rod in the Colosseum. Buy the Iron Shield from the Librarian. Press Circle and Square at the same time. Destroy everything on your path. Look for the Alucard Shield in the inverted castle. Beat the game.
Eric Lecarde To Maria - Show me the power said surpass even that of a Belmont. Also I had no idea she was a secret playable character. Playing her gives me another reason to start Symphony of the night again.
