    Thank you! Repaced all 4 O2 sensors ran good 16.5 mpg milage, getting occasional cat efficieny bank 1 code, now seeing leam code. Checking manifold for leaks & will swap out Mass Flow. Kinda Easter Egging but like you trying to stay away from dealers. Great video, most appreciated!

    Thanks for the great video. I have recently replaced the throttle body assembly for the codes it was sending but then another code and problem cropped up. Luckily, your video saved the day for me since it was a MAP sensor that was easily replaced thanks to your video.

    My truck recently would get the lightning bolt intermittently; turn on at some point during cruise control and also during regular city driving. Lightning bolt would turn on and truck would lose power immediately, but then regain power once I turned off cruise control or took my foot off the pedal. I replaced the throttle body- didn’t work. Replaced the MAP sensor- ram cruise control up the grapevine in Cali; no issues. It’s only been one day, but I put it through it’s paces and so far problem went away.

    I have been trying to trace diagnose a few 02 sensors in my 2005 dodge ram 1500 4.7 slt. You're initial symptoms are what I have experienced. I swapped out the drivers set first and noticed a tremendous improvement. And just recently the passengers side. But now all the faulty 02 sensor codes are back. With no luck. Next, I sand papered the G107 body ground on the passenger fender and I'm waiting to see if the codes come back. If not then great. I was looking into a schematic in the shop manual and found the map sensor and coolant temperature sensor (might) have a play in the 02 sensors circuit. So I'll be looking into those soon.

    You have some great vids, but if you could invest in a tripod so you can get those critical shots when you are unclipping and releasing electrical connections and other things that are similar it would really be great. I know myself that sometimes when you do things for the first time you are not sure how much force you can put on a part without damaging it and if we could see those critical disconnections live on video it would ease people and make things even easier to follow. Otherwise your clips are really fantastic.

    • @mattpayne4087

      A tripod would definitely be helpful, but actually I don't even have a video camera. I actually film everything with my Samsung Galaxy S4 phone. I suppose there is probably some sort of adapter I could purchase to hold the phone on a tripod, but I really haven't looked into it. To be honest, if I was charging people to watch my videos, I'd probably be more concerned about the video quality, but I'm really just doing this to help people out, so I can't really justify spending a lot of money on fancy equipment. I just do the best I can with what I have to work with, and hopefully I can still demonstrate the procedures effectively enough to help others.
      Thanks for watching!

      +Matt Payne I understand that completely. My first tripod I got for $10 at a local flea market and used it on a really old camera for some of my early videos. I eventually bought another one but it was only about $15 to $20. That is actually the same type of phone that I have myself and man does it take really good photos. I have used the video modes some but not for any TH-cam content. I invested in a nicer camera for that, but any useful information a person can upload on here to help people out is great regardless of all the details. Thanks a lot for your videos just the same.

    • @mattpayne4087
      @mattpayne4087  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, I've been really impressed with the S4's camera, too! It takes phenomenal photos/videos in good lighting. However, I have noticed that the quality suffers considerably in low light, resulting in a lot of pixelation. I can work around that, though.
      Eventually I would definitely like to have a dedicated video camera for TH-cam content, and hopefully I'll reach that point some day. Thanks for your kind words, and your advice is sound. Thanks a lot for watching, and kudos to you too for trying to help people out with your videos!

    did the problem get fixed? my truck just started doing similar things especially when I'm at the light it just shuts off . i don't really want to replace anything that does not need replacing unless i have too if you know what i mean.

    • @mattpayne4087
      @mattpayne4087  8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Honestly, replacing the MAP sensor really had no discernible affect. However, I since read some information about running a dedicated ground wire from the throttle body to the body of the truck and decided to give that a try. That actually made a significant impact, which is most noticeable in my engine idle while sitting at a stoplight. Before running the ground wire, the engine would idle erratically, bouncing between 500-800 RPM. Now, it almost always idles perfectly at about 600 RPM, and I'd like to say I have noticed better throttle response, too, though I can't physically observe that like I can the change in idle performance.
      I don't quite understand the science behind this, but it seems to be accepted that this really does improve the idle. I'm sure it has something to do with electrical interference and the quality of the ground connection between the throttle and the engine. I keep meaning to make a video about this simple procedure, but haven't gotten around to it yet. But, literally all I did was run a #12 stranded electrical wire between one of the throttle body mounting bolts and a ground bolt on the truck body inside the engine bay. I used crimp connectors on both ends, and zip-tied the wire to the existing harness running across the top of the firewall.
      I hope this helps. Thanks for watching!

      Omar, unfortunately this did not make much of a difference. However, I recently had my spark plugs changed and that seems to have significantly increased the performance of the engine. Even though I have had the plugs changed at regular intervals, and ev even more often than the service manual recommends, the truck is now running better after having new plugs installed. I am wondering if the plugs were not gapped correctly the last time I had them replaced.

      Nice! What product did you use? It's interesting that you say this - I recently have had a P0420 code for low catalyst efficiency and have been wondering if my cat is plugged up, causing some of my issues. On Saturday I added a product made by CRC called "Guaranteed to Pass" and am waiting to see if it improves the engine performance at all. I don't put a lot of faith in "miracle fix" products, but a lot of people have reviewed this product and claimed it helped eliminate P0420 codes, so we'll see how it goes.

    • @mattpayne4087
      @mattpayne4087  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, it's a Manifold Absolute Pressure sensor. A Mass Airflow Sensor would be located somewhere in the air intake hose before the intake manifold, but the third generation Rams actually do not have Mass Airflow Sensors. Check the link below for an example of the replacement part in this video:
