Hi Freddie, you mentioned the feel good factor! I’m sure you will have seen the press over the weekend regarding the ‘Dave Day’ ride out last Saturday in memory of Hairy Biker Dave Myers RIP💕 The Hairy Bikers AKA Dave Myers & Si King have been great ambassors for the motorcycling community for many years, bringing biking adventures combined with great cooking into lounges up and down country (and beyond) The ride started at the Ace Cafe in London and travelled 300 miles to Barrow in Furness Cumbria, via 4 stops, picking up tens of thousands of bikers along the way.
I am proud to say that I took part and it was absolutely brilliant, a reel feel good feeling and it was impossible not to get caught up in the emotion of it all! Everyone stuck to the rules and the camaraderie and respect amongst bikers, and love from the supporting public was immense. Every bridge and non motorway roadsides were lined with people for the entire route.
The UK biking community riding out respectfully en masse, with huge support from the public and receiving praise from all the different police forces whose territory it passed, what an advert for motorcycling!
Si King rode at the front on a Harley with Dave’s wife Lili riding pillion on another Harley with event organiser Woody - Brilliant job Woody. 👍🏻 Check it out on Facebook - Dave Day 8th June 2024 “I’m having a DAVE Day!” to get an appreciation of the scale of the event, thousands of posts with videos and pictures.
And we would all love to do it again👌🏻😎🏍️

08.06.2024 was "Daves Day" and I am so glad I joined in after securing a hotel at the very last minute.
45,000 bikes, 200,000+ people waving and lining the streets plus more than £50,000 raised for charity in memory of Dave Myers (Hairy Bikers) who sadly died this year.
Bikes and bikers of all shapes and sizes, of which I had pleasure to photograph as many as I could in Barrow (the end point).
My 600+ mile round trip from the Ace Cafe to Barrow will stay with me for the rest of my life.
The love all the way and in some places, on the way back , now engraved in my heart.
The many videos, inc mine (shamless plug 🙂), collectively give you a rounded feel for one of the biggest biking events staged in the UK in a very long time.
Margate Scooter run is next for me lol.
    Wishing you well and upright.

There's a chap on here called The Bingley Wheeler. He has just bought the CF Moto 800MT Adventure and has covered more or less 6 or 700 miles on it. He says it's one of the best bikes he's had and he is quite an old chap with years of experience under his belt. I suppose with all this glut of new machines coming over from China, we will have to wait and see how good they are in the long term as far as reliability and servicing.

I have been to Sturgis 12 times. This is a very spiritual place and home to the Lakota Indian tribe that is like no where else in the world. The Black Hills are so large you can ride some of the most beautiful roads in the world and not see another biker no matter how many bikers arrive. It is a must do. I rode there for the spiritual renewal aspect of the Black Hills. Home to Mount Rushmore and Devils Tower is an hour away. If you ever think about going I will be your guide.

Hi again Freddie from the displaced brit living in Alabama USA...
If you think the Fury looks funky, look up the Yamaha Raider (113c.i., 1852cc) and it's little sister the Yamaha Striker.
I have a 2008 Yamaha Raider sharing the garage with my two Harley's (she is called Stepchild), it is a beast, with a 240mm rear tyre, v-twin, 5 speed gearbox, and lot's of low down torque with a very respectable top speed...

I had the misfortune to own & ride a Jawa 350 paraffin pi55er back in the day . I spent more time pushing & spannering the crock of sh💩t ,than riding it . The regulator caused the battery to boil , the primary drive chain ripped the clutch basket & crank case cover off dumping the clutch basket & gear oil on a village high street . The baffles blew out the exhaust & the rear brake pedal exited the bike on the M53 . It finally blew its main & big end bearings at around 5 ,000 miles . I flogged it to a Jawa fanatic for 50 quid , i would have gladly paid him to take it out of my sight . If it hasn’t got a Japanese badge on it , its not going in my garage .

Camping is cheap as chips and the Islanders really look after bikers. It’s not necessarily an expensive trip. Book early and camp. Beer and food are generally very reasonable prices. Eating local made food in a community centre or church while watching bikes fly past at 200mph is a very special experience as many know.

As I mentioned before my missus and I rode CF Motos across every province of China, including Tibet at over 5000 meters and cover over 15,000 kilometers and they were great. I have been to the factory in Hangzhou and its state of the art. People also say KTMs are unreliable and yet I have ridden all over the world - once for 2 years from Cape Town to Shanghai - again with my missus on another bike and again few issues I didn’t cause myself. My view is any manufacturer will have a Friday afternoon bike get onto the market and a bike will last a long time if you look after oil, filters and fuel. 再见

I had one as a kid, we used to field ride all the time and sometimes get bikes from breakers and one of them was a Jawa 350 2 stroke! Horrendous this bike was but we had some fun on it. Quite underpowered if I remember rightly for a 2 stroke 350. Another interesting bike we had was a Minsk 125 road bike, it was this bike which me and a friend discovered how to ride a geared bike with a clutch!! 🤣 good times

One Class a week for a year? When I got my Automotive Technology certification in a US community college, it was 6 hours a day, 5 days a week, for a year. My brother got his diesel tech certificate from Nashville Auto-Diesel an it was pretty much the same schedule. While motorcycles don't have things like AC so slightly less is needed to be learned, I can't see learning near enough in a year going once a week. I think just my mechanics math class alone took more time than that.

For André, the fellow Portuguese viewer. I believe I know which course you looked into (takes place near Lisbon?). I won't mention the name, but if so, that one doesn't even seem to be certified, although it's quite popular on google searches and motorcycle news sites. Alternatively, try to explore the IEFP website or, better yet, contact your IEFP local office. You might find certified courses that include apprenticeship and potentially they could be subsidised, depending on your situation. From a quick online search, the motorcycles courses are usually called something like "TÉCNICO DE MECATRÓNICA DE MOTOCICLOS" and IEFP is advertising a new class starting September, but it's in Coimbra.

Most wages in Portugal are at that level and almost nothing is much cheaper there, unless you are located in provincial areas where your wages are even lower. In spain it’s similar.

just starting the vid, but as far as "character", a 2-stroke will be a completely different beast, loaded with character. Maybe not the character (or sound) you want, but i can promise it will have character. A good 2T will compete (speed) with a larger capacity 4T. I'd be REALLY interested to see a review of the Jawa (vid review). It might just be loud/buzzy, but wonder if it launches when 'on the pipe', like a 2T dirtbike.

Regarding André and the salaries in Portugal (sorry for the rant!): yeah, people living of the average salary in Portugal are royally screwed and things are just getting worse with over-tourism and gentrification, specially for those living around the major cities. Things were never great, but after the last few years the average joe is getting slaughtered. Local officials are just looking for the quick buck only catering to the tourism sector, but unfortunately I still witness visitors saying they loved the place and how nice it was, completely oblivious and with a shocking lack of awareness of how everything is just an amusement park set up for them while locals (and mainly immigrants) continue to be exploited for the easy profit provided by tourism....for many of us this is a "failed state" (within the European context), new EU-joining countries overtaking us in all development rankings, no productive sectors in the local Economy, low wages with European high cost of living. If anyone is worried about their impact when visiting a place, please avoid Portugal, or at least the main urban areas and tourist hotspots (aka tourist traps). Sorry if this makes anyone mad, but that's what we are going through rn, and that's why I'm not surprised our politics are getting increasingly inflamed. Also, ofc this is not something exclusive to Portugal, but it doesn't invalidate the big issue it poses to all of us over here.

    Dear Freddy,
As a new rider I bought my first helmet. It’s a HJC i100 modular style helmet.
I’m not sure but I believe the weight of it is causing me very bad headaches from compressing my spine and neck. Is this a common thing? I do not get headaches ever and it only happens when I put this helmet on.
I love this helmet with the technology it has and the ability to fit a Bluetooth system which I intend to do along with a hightail for my newly grown lockdown long hair (which is another problem I have found).
Is there a helmet that is similar to this with features but not so heavy that you can recommend? I really don’t want to give this helmet up but I fear that I have no choice if it is down to the weight. Any insight on headaches from helmets you can share are welcome.
    Sincerely
    Tony from South Wales 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

You got all your cc/hp/mph units mixed up,at the start there. 😃 Doesn’t matter though as the Jawa was the worst bike of the 70s and hasn’t changed since.

Freddie , Paul from Australia, we are up at our Winter Holiday House near Cairns Queensland. Have my CRF 300 Rally up here , but thinking of buying a Honda VTR 250 - to use for my road riding up here . Check them out mate a bulletproof 90 degree V-twin ( apparently designed by the same person that designed the Ducati Monster ( late 90,s to mid 2000,s ) They call it the Mini - Monster and looks just like them , so from the late 90,s and I think 🤔 still Buliding today . No longer import into Australia from about the mid 2000,s. Don’t know if you get them in the UK ? , fantastic show as always mate.

Jawa/CZ were among the cheapest bikes on the road. The desire of Eastern bloc states for western hard currency, meant they were sold for little more than cost. Allowing for inflation the Jawa would cost £2000 approx.

GBP 140/h . . . maybe for a BMW dealership in the middle of London but the actual mechanics won't be making anything like that.

40 years ago when I bought my first Triumph, Jawas used to make me cringe. They always sounded like bean tins rivetted into a bike. And with a very utilitarian-looking engine, there was nothing iconic about them. I won't be getting one.
I really like the looks of the Fury, but have never been a fan of alloy wheels. With a set of spoked wheels it'd be well worth some serious thought.

May I suggest the fella who want to become a motorcycle mechanic. It will cost. Choose a bike /model range and know it inside out and backwards, buy a wrecked bike and strip and rebuild it until you can do it easily ALL the info is on the internet and is free finally when you are ready ,,,,,go to a recognised school AFTER you are competent ( to get that bit of paper ) DONT buy Snap on super tool set but do get the min required to deal with the bike you have chosen after which expand through experience ( that wrecked bike you bought will allow you to practice such as timesert installation, welding ? electrical BEFORE you go near a customers bike ( 35 years as a mechanic and I still have old bits lying around to practice on such as an old tank i use for welding repair to keep my hand in )

Mr Darcy and the Old Man tested one of these recently. It looks like the same poorly finished bike my brother bought back in the 1980s. They were unreliable then and he got fitter after pushing it home. He sold it after a short time and went for the MZ 250 instead, which was a much better bike. You would have to be crazy to buy one when ,ou can gave an entry level Triumph for less money!

800 EU-money per month! Guess something's are cheaper there, but still. That's, not good.
A mind you/everyone: Labour cost do not go directly to the actual labourer. Usually a hefty part towards the owner of the shop

People need to stop looking at specs when determining sense of a bike. CC, torque specs are only one part. You need to ride the bike, see how it feels, how it makes you feel. The RE might make more sense spec wise, but who cares if the 2-stroke just makes you happy...

Every real biker should take part in the annual ACU National Road Rally. It is an overnight navigational challenge that starts at around midday on a Saturday, and you have to complete the distance that you have selected to do (300, 400, or 500 miles) via the checkpoints you have chosen to reach one of only three final controls by 8am on the Sunday. You could do a video about it.

Sturgis is stupid expensive. Rolling drunk for posers. They have no idea how to ride them in the mountains. They ride off cliffs and curves. $100 to camp out on the ground. Daytona Cop Week come on vacation and leave on probation as they say. $300+ tickets for reving your motorcycle. Stupid expensive as well. Poser party as well. Dotted with bikes that come out once a year.

Without being too ''right on'' Sturgis has a pretty sleazy side to it. A few minutes on TH-cam will throw up some pretty unwholesome elements to what (at times) goes on there.
