  • This video shows how to replace the A/C Expansion Valve on an E320. The procedure is explained in detail in the video along with torque values, etc... Just be sure to have the old Freon evacuated from your system first, to replace your Receiver Drier (a must whenever you open the A/C system - see link below for as video on that), and to replace the rubber gaskets.

    Great video, can I apply that to replace this valve on E320 1999, since the passenger side blow cold air but not cold engine and the driver side No cold at all , it was working before couple of months both side but still I was feeling the cold air in the passenger side better than the other side , because in that time , they clean the pipes and adding Freon .

    Greta video. I am trying to repair a 2000 E320 with a/c and engine coolant temp problems. The single electric fan that cools the radiator and condenser spins at a very low speed under all conditions. It was not always this way. When the car was much newer, the fan would spin at high speed when needed and keep things cool. Now if it is a very hot day the a/c will not cool as well and if you are idling or crawling in traffic the pressure in the a/c system gets too high so the car shuts down the compressor. The engine coolant temp also gets too hot under idle or crawl in traffic conditions. I have done the high speed cooling fan motor test when you hold both auto buttons on the HVAC controls and force the electric fan to spin at high speed. I swapped the fan control computer that sits under the left headlight but the problem remains. What in your experience is going on?

    • @masood-tv
      @masood-tv  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Howdy texan176, I have not run into a similar issue but my advice is to see how you can logically isolate the problem. Start by powering up the fan directly from the battery. If high speed, then look at next touch point...may be sensors?

      @masood-tv  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, when you did the test, did the fan turn at high speed? I would unplug the fan plug and feed it 12 volts via a power probe or cables connected to battery positive and negative to see if the fan speed. If good, then track it backward to the controls.

    Thank you for sharing great DIY video, i have a question - when i have my ac system evacuted (at local shop) before replacing the expansion valve and drier, will i loose all my PAG46 in the system? If yes, then when i go to have the car recharge of 134A (loacal shop) will i instruct them to include a PAG46? Or can i add PAG46 myself, if yes- how? Thanks

      @@masood-tv Masood thanks for you response, i see your video on how to add oil by taking out the compressor. Otherwise i will have to pay them extra labor if they have to remove the compressor to add oil. Thanks again.

    • @masood-tv
      @masood-tv  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, they dont have to remove the compressor. As they evacuate the system and as you replace the two components, some oil will get lost and will need to be replenished. The shop should know how much oil to add to the system along with the exact volume of freon.

    I've got a 96 W210 E230, the one with the analogue dial climate controls. The air conditioning is intermittent, sometimes cool air comes through, at other times it's just the blower giving out air. Rotating the climate control blower dial back and forth from 0 to 1 fixes the issue sometimes. Compressor is in good condition, regassed and checked for leaks, replaced climate control module but no luck. Could it be the expansion valve?

    • @masood-tv
      @masood-tv  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Naveen - that could have a number of culprits. Check the AC lines immediately after it starts to just blow air and see if they are frozen. Regardless, you may have overcharged the system or you may have a bad evap.

  • @julianmcalister6865
    @julianmcalister6865 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Got a question for ya. Would a bad dryer cause high pressures on the low pressure hose? So, I did the expansion valve today and didn’t do the dryer. The reason I didn’t do the dryer is because I thought it may be still good since the car only has 45K miles on it. Anyway, I did the job, added Freon and the air was super cold, let it run for 15mins, turned the car off, then went to drive it, the air was hot, checked the pressure and it was extremely high on the low side. Would the dryer cause that?

    • @masood-tv
      @masood-tv  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Julian - I hope you didn't overcharge the system. This doesn't sound like a bad dryer issue. What was the pressure on the high side when AC was on and is the pressure around equal when the car is off?

    • @julianmcalister6865
      @julianmcalister6865 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@masood-tv I wasn’t able to check the high side. It was odd that the pressure was fine when I added Freon, stable, blowing cold air, and the compressor was kicking on and off like it should. I turned the car off, went inside, came back out, cranked the car, it wasn’t blowing cold air, checked the pressure on the low side and it was extremely high. I had evacuated the system completely and only added 1 1/2 12oz cans of Freon. The car in question is a 2000 CLK430.
      The car did the exact same thing before switching the expansion valve out. Went to add Freon and it was extremely high on the low side. That’s what prompted me to switch out the expansion valve. No Freon was added for it to have high pressure before the valve swap.

    • @masood-tv
      @masood-tv  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Checking the high side pressure will give more clues. You could have a bad or partially blocked condenser or even a bad dryer. But I would have the condenser checked first.

    • @masood-tv
      @masood-tv  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi - I think you should check the pressure in your system. You may need more Freon. It is a closed system, if the pressure readings indicate that you are low on Freon, you should first determine why. Perhaps, there is a leak... Good luck.

    I have a w211 that when it’s summer and very hot, the whole system stops working. No air coming out, no buttons work. It only happens at times. Also I connected manifold gauges and the pressure was way over. Could this be a heater control valve (or changeover vslve) or an expansion valve problem? What could it be?

    • @masood-tv
      @masood-tv  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Gedion, it is hard to tell. High pressure usually indicates too much freon in the system or some kind if a blockage...such as a bad or failing condenser. If no buttons activate anything, the faults may lie in the sensors or the electrical system.

    • @gedionsamuel2256
      @gedionsamuel2256 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Masood Thank you for the response! That’s the weird thing, it only happens when it’s very hot outside. The buttons worked, lit up but no response in the fan turning on (no heat no cold air coming out.) But once it’s cool outside it would be just fine. Last problems were last summer and I fear since summer is coming up and wanted to address it now!
      One thing for sure is I remember one of the pipes looking almost frozen when I went to check with gauges.

    • @masood-tv

      @@gedionsamuel2256 - if you remember frozen lines, chances are there is moisture in your system...perhaps due to a leak. You will need to pull the moisture by vacuum, and see if vacuum holds. If not determine source of leak and fix.

    • @masood-tv
      @masood-tv  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Draco, it sounds like the symptom of a bad expansion valve. Did you vacuum the system thoroughly when you replaced the compressor? Did you also replace the receiver/drier? Moisture must have entered the system...take the car to a mechanic for a free diagnosis and estimate to find out what is wrong.
