  • The Mini Countryman Cooper S E All4 can run on electric power only but exactly how far can you get.
    The manufacturer gives you thre numbers but how close can this Mini Countryman get.
    2019 Mini Countryman Cooper S E ALL4 PHEV is the latest and most advanced Mini Cooper BMW have ever made. This hybrid mini combines the engine from the 2019 Mini Cooper and an electric motor to produce performance faster than the 2019 Mini Cooper S and nearly as fast as the 209 Mini Cooper JCW. Being a plug-in hybrid this has the benefits of being electric around town producing zero emissions but when combined with the Cooper s petrol motor the car has surprising performance.

      My latest mini, when charged starts at 21miles, move to green 24 miles. Previous, similar reg to yours, 17miles 19miles green. If you use the computer so it can plan you will get the mileage. Without the computer, it cannot plan so best fit.

      Will be interesting doing the same sort of test with the electric only version of the mini although not sure what happens when you actual run out of electric with no petrol backup 😳 it’s not like you can take a petrol can and go and fill up and bring the fuel back

    This is the first video I've seen driving this just on the battery. I test drove one last week and I'm considering buying one (used, 2019). 90% of my driving is short, 12 mile round trip journeys. To the grocery store. To Home Depot. Things like that. Once every 3 weeks, I drive to the city, which is about 105 miles round trip. For those drives, I'd use gas for the highway and battery for the stop and go city traffic.

    I was a bit to optimistic but more than 20 mpg is still good for a heavy car with relatively poor aerodynamics. With all the comforts on I reckon 15 mpg max. if it's cold weather.

    Where did you come up with the 8hr charging time? It only has a 7.6kwh battery and AC charging only. According to Pod- Point on the granny (slow) charger it should take about 4hrs and 2hrs fast charging.

    If you ask mini or bmw they stress that you HAVE to use the sat nav to get the best results rather than swap from one to another. Even short distances you’re meant to use the sat nav so it can plan your route and know when best to use petrol or electric. Without doing that the car doesn’t know what method of drive is best. I’ve got one and it isn’t intended as a pure electric...

  • @RetroKingOG
    @RetroKingOG 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I love Mini and I own 2016 Countryman S.
    Only flaw I see with the hybrid is the battery range.
    Most hybrid vehicles at that price range can do well over 30 miles on electric alone. Mini is behind their class when it comes to EV.
    Secondly, from a fuel efficiency standpoint; my car being the older generation with the 1.6L turbo petrol, averages about 29 mpg city and 37 mpg highway.
    The hybrid, from the videos I’ve seen, only manages 32 mpg city and 38 mpg highway. Being that it has a smaller tank than mine, wouldn’t you end up getting the same overall range from a full tank as a normal non hybrid?

  • @mikesp11
    @mikesp11 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    For maximum battery range switch to engine up hills and on dual carriageway and use electric downhill and in town. This only works of course if on a longer journey than battery alone can stretch to, and you'd have to use engine anyway to complete the distance

  • @14percent
    @14percent 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I thought you'd get about 12. I'm impressed. It is my understanding that BMW is quite conservative with performance estimates around horsepower and torque. Perhaps they approached the same way with their stated all E estimates.

    • @DamoDrives
      @DamoDrives  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The figures were revised to use WLTP which dropped it by about 5-7 miles. You are right they are often conservative which I suppose is good as you see then very happy when it does better than they said 😂😂

    • @TheAhdoodoo
      @TheAhdoodoo 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Front wheels are driven by the internal combustion engine. Rear wheels driven by the electric motor. So in full electric mode it’s only rear wheel drive. Only utilizes all4 when both the ICE and electric motor are driving each axle at the same time.

    • @christopherguzzi1316
      @christopherguzzi1316 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That's not quite true. When in E-Max drive mode, if the rear wheels begin to slip the engine will turn on to provide traction to the front wheels.

      I’m very happy with this car. I chose it over an i3 because of my range anxiety, and it’s fun when I want it to be and very eco on a day by day routine (a lot of days I do my commute on EV only), and the overall consumption after 20.000 miles is near 100mpg).

    It was unclear if you had the driving mode "max e-drive" enabled from the very beginning with a full charge as you were saying that you're not sure if it was switching between electric and the petrol engine near the beginning of the video. Later on you mentioned that it's still in max e-drive mode. If you are in Max edrive mode, doesn't it force the car to drive in all electric mode until the batteries are depleted?

    • @DamoDrives
      @DamoDrives  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes I had it in max e drive all the time. I had the screen showing energy sources being used and always kept an eye on it. It did switch to Petrol at 1 point but pulled over straight away so don’t think it made a difference to the overall figure. The reason it did change was because the engine was too cold and I would assume there needs to be some temp in the engine in case it needs to quickly switch the ICE on. Did you enjoy the review
