  • An awkward and random review of the 2022 MINI Cooper Countryman SE Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV).
    When I was shopping for my MINI, I had trouble tracking down some of the details about this car, including what the Sage Green color really looked like and what some of the options meant. Threw this together to try to answer some of those questions for other potential MINI owners.
    I apologize for my messy hair and the abrupt ending.

    Very nice and sincere review. It truly helped me decided to buy a Countryman S E. Now I have one in a beautiful Island blue color and I really enjoy driving it.

    I love this video! It’s one of the most authentic and friendly videos I’ve seen on TH-cam. You’re awesome, Scott. Thanks for sharing. PS your camera man is pretty cool too. 😏

    Really enjoyed this review. Great to see how commonly used features actually work and sharing the driving experience while demonstrating different modes so effectively. One of the best Mini Countryman reviews I could find, certainly my favourite one. Thank you very much for sharing this.

    Thanks for showing the Mini Yours Illuminated. Although you didn't turn off the garage lights to show it off, it was nice that you included it because I am finding nearly nobody is reviewing this feature. Especially in low light. Which is a shame, it looks cool!

    Thank you for this video, I am ordering a countryman and everyone has been convincing me to get silver top and stripes with the sage green but I love how minis look with the white. It has been so hard to visualize the sage green with white since the color online is so inaccurate and your video is the only place I'm seeing the color combo. I am definitely ordering with the white, yours looks so good!

    Great video, pick my sage green countryman Cooper S all4 up in 2 weeks in sport trim for the UK. Just a quick tip for you, the picnic bench in the rear doesn’t need to be unbuttoned to use as it’s meant to flip in and out with ease. 🙌🏻

      Thought I’d add to this it’s been almost 4 weeks since my car was built, as we all know there’s a chip shortage and now my car is sat in a compound for weeks unfinished due to parts missing, nobody knows when or if I’ll receive my car so just wanted people to be wary if they plan on ordering a new car. I’ve had a nightmare trying to get mine and I don’t see an end to it anytime soon. 😞

    • @skleper
      @skleper  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry to hear that! I guess I got in right before the chip shortage really took hold. My build went quick, but the transport step took a lot longer than I thought it would.

    I switched from 110v to a fast charger, which decreased my charge time to 2.5 hours. Having a full battery means I’m using very little gas in my Countryman PHEV.

    Very good video, thank you for sharing. I’m tempted to go with a Plug in Hybrid but nervous that any savings on gas could be eaten up on increased electricity costs..

    • @skleper
      @skleper  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think to justify the cost, environmental concern would have to be part of your calculus. If it isn't, you're probably better off with a gas engine. Although, if you can convince yourself that gas prices are likely to go up and renewable costs are likely to go down, plus Hybrids/EVs probably will have better resale value as gas is phased out, you might be able to get there :)

    • @112deeps
      @112deeps 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In Europe it makes sense as gas price are heavily taxed & electricity is roughly 1/3 the price. With smart meter you can charge timer at lowest cost. I wonder how it compares to Land rover evoke plugin. They both have similar set up of 1.5 litre 3 cylinder front drive plus electric motor rear drive.

    Great Video - Wish the Electric range was much better at least 75 miles + would then really look into this as my next vehical 👍 ... A very nice car at that ! 😎

    I have the 2019 version. I'm looking forward to the 2023 version, which is supposed to also have a completely EV version, to go with their Cooper SE. If it has 220+ miles of range, I made trade mine in for that one.

    Nice review, not really that awkward , hope to get my very own mini someday.. the mini logo projected on the ground after u get out is really pretty cool, is it only available in mini electric/hybrid cars tho?

    • @skleper
      @skleper  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! The projected logo is available on non-hybrids, though it may be only the S models. Not sure on that. You can buy and after market one on Amazon though that you just pop into place

    thanks for the video! Question about your experience with the Max eDrive mode, what has your experience been with the the all electric distance? Have you been able to achieve 17 miles or more of all electric range?

    • @skleper
      @skleper  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I haven't measured very scientifically, but 17 is about right. Tomorrow I have a destination that's exactly 8.5 miles away, so I'll have to see if I can make it there and back.

    • @ryawong
      @ryawong 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@skleper fantastic! It would be nice to know the true all electric range. Thanks again!

    • @skleper
      @skleper  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@ryawong Good news! I drove 18+ miles on surface roads at speeds between 35 and 55 entirely on battery. Made three stops along the way, including one full stop with parking. In the end, the car was reporting 2 miles remaining on MAX eDRIVE and average trip e-consumption of 3.2 mi/kWh. Average overall speed (I guess including stops?) was 28 mph.

    • @ryawong
      @ryawong 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@skleper that IS good news! Thank you for reporting back with real-world results for the MAX eDrive mode. That gives me more reason to seriously consider this Mini Countryman PHEV as our main daily commuter. Another question I had was, how effective is the brake battery regeneration while in MAX eDrive mode?

    • @skleper
      @skleper  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ryawong Not sure on the regeneration. Will have to check if it reveals that somewhere. You do definitely feel the car slow quicker when coasting, but that’s probably true of all hybrids. This is my first…

    Does the vehicle have blind spot warning?

  • @bobnonn

    Great video. I just ordered the hybrid sage with white. Is it safe to use the 110 charger regularly?

    • @bobnonn
      @bobnonn 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      How fast does it charge on 110v? Is it three hours like the docs say?

    • @skleper
      @skleper  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      By regularly, do you mean keeping it plugged in when it's fully charged? It seems to be pretty smart about regulating itself. For example, I mostly take short trips and don't use the gas engine. But every few weeks, the gas engine turns on for a few minutes, presumably just to exercise it periodically. I'm assuming the battery has similar smart maintenance features.

    • @bobnonn
      @bobnonn 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes. Thanks!
      I was just wondering if there are safety concerns keeping the 110 cable plugged in every night.
      From what you’re saying and other reading I’ve found, it seems like no one has problems with consistent attachment to my garage 110v. And the sales person said it was fine to use it daily, as well.
      Thanks.

      No real complaints. I saw the 2024 Countryman though and it’s totally different. Much bigger. The Aceman looks like the best balance of size and features but it’s not in the US yet.
