I had a helluva time doing this. The part that got me was the little trigger spring and getting the pin back through the frame. I discovered that the piece of wire I was using as a tool, was slipping too much. I wrapped a layer or two of scotch tape around it and it made it more snug when holding the trigger spring in place. I was then able to finally get the pin through. Before that, I kept getting the pin through, but the piece of wire I was using was slipping out to quickly and the pin was missing the trigger spring. That part alone probably took me the most time to finally conquer. Side note: I went with the black trigger instead of the beige. I considered the beige, but decided to stay with black. The beige trigger does look nice though! Thanks for this video. Only tip. Try to keep yourself on camera all the time. You drifted off camera a couple times and I couldn't see what you were doing. Other than that, excellent video!!!
Thanks for the tips and I'm glad you find the videos useful. I like the fact that you state the issues you experienced and the way you fix them. Let us know how you like the new trigger.
@@TheOAFirearms - Thanks! I plan to go to my friends house to do some shooting this weekend. Will report back how I like the new trigger. Dry firing, it feels much better already.
@@TheOAFirearms - Wow. New Apex trigger is so much different than the stock one. Less travel and a much better reset. And it's a much lighter feel. It's definitely better and helps stay on target better as well.
Hey bro I got a question for you.. so I have the twin sets of these pistols both the nine and the 40 because I love them so much and I have a 40 tore down right now I'm about to paint and improve with the trigger kit the case in point I noticed the guide rod protrudes out the end of your pistol a little bit? Why is this is this something from the trigger kit you installed not saying you did it wrong but a subtle change like when I improved all the springs on my M4 to change the way the bolt engaged so by changing your trigger Springs did this cause the guide rod to stick out underneath the barrel? Or have you changed your guide rod spring? My girl wants me to put a softer guide rod spring on because I think it's 25 lb to pull the breach into battery? Okay love the video and thanks for your time in advance
I did change that guide rod a while back. I do not remember which guide rod was installed at the time of that video. That bit of protrusion could be from the new guide rod. You're welcome, and thank you.
I'm sure it was set to pounds. The readings were really weird. I got some higher readings before the video, averaging about 6lbs. I didn't do anything different during the video so it was just odd.
Just picked up a used S&W SD9VE on gun broker. Just looking at videos concerning the Apex trigger/spring. How has this kit held up over the long term? I noticed Apex makes a kit with just the springs and you would keep the stock trigger?? Any advise would be appreciated.
Quick question: The Trigger Enhancement kit from Apex I ordered and installed came with a Sear spring. I did not install that because I noticed you did not install one either. Did your kit not come with the Sear spring? If it did, was there a reason you did not install it?
My kit came with that spring as well...I've got the same question. Edit: I found the install video on the Apex website. Check out this video. Skip to the 6:00 mark, and it'll explain what the sear spring is for and whether or not you need it. th-cam.com/video/Z_pUbkIRYk0/w-d-xo.html
@@richiewilson3760 - Thanks. I heard back from Apex. They said their original kits did not include the sear spring and they only started including it recently. They said it is not much different than the factory sear spring and that I would probably not notice a difference if I put it in.
You’re using the trigger pull gauge wrong. You are supposed to pull from the middle of the trigger. You are pulling from the tip. That will give you a reading of about half of the actual weight. Your actual weights are more like 8 pounds before and 5 pounds after, which are what Smith & Wesson and Apex say.
It is not possible to pull from the center of the Apex enhancement trigger. The black safety mechanism in the trigger has to be engaged in order for the trigger to go all the way backwards. Simple because this is a safe action trigger.
@@TheOAFirearms You can either position the gauge just below the center, angled down towards the grip and once you’ve pulled enough to disengage the trigger safety, rotate the gauge up to be pulling in the center of the trigger straight back, or you can put the gauge right in the center, apply light pressure and use the tip of your finger of the hand that is holding the gun to push the tip of the trigger just enough to disengage the trigger safety and then continue to pull the gauge straight back.
I have a question.. did it make the trigger more exact.. the stock trigger has no wall or anything.. every other gun I have has a distinct point where it gets harder to pull then bang.. the sd9ve trigger you never know..thanks
I just tried it again and I feel like it gets a bit tougher. But if you pull that trigger enough it will feel seamless. I don't try to find that breaking point, I let the break surprise me and keep my focus on the sights and that straight backwards trigger pull. Not anticipating the break is one less thing to worry about.
Why do you yank the trigger pull tool so hard fast? Other than that, I really like the video. You're clear and thorough and I can see everything well. Good stuff!
I was getting that in the beginning. I realized that it only happen after after about 350 rounds or so. I started to clean my gun after each range session and I've not had one in a while.
I'm trying to do this with my SD40VE but can't seem to knock out the trigger pin. I've tried from both sides using a proper sized punch and a heavy duty hammer. The pin will not budge. I have the California model if that makes any difference.
@@TheOAFirearms From pictures and videos I've seen the frame is the same with the exception of mag disconnect lever in the California model. After doing a bit more research, it seems some of these SDVEs are pain to remove the trigger pin. You have to play around with the slide stop while pushing the trigger pin out simultaneously.
You really should re-shoot this video there is no way you had a factory pull of 4lb it should be in the 7-10 lb range and the Apex trigger should bring it into the 4.5-5.5 lb range. Leaving this up showing the kit bringing it down to 2lb something is just wrong and could possibly get people to buy it and then be disappointed and give the company a bad name.

Will do.
I appreciate....
Thanks man great vid i just ordered one!
Hey bro.. got it and installed wow! what a difference in my shooting thanks again!!!!
Your welcome, glad to help...
Are you sure your gauge was using pounds and not kilograms? That trigger was way too light on the factory springs.
Way too light. You really don't need to do anything if it's reading 3-4lbs
That trigger should've been 8-10lbs

Calibrate that guage
The Sd9ve doesn’t allow you to shoot without a magazine in it. That’s why it was so low.
Good job. 👍

Is the guide rod still plastic here?
No, it was not. But I've since changed it back to the plastic guide rid.

It's the angle at which it was placed on the table. The rod is stainless steel and the spring is black.
