Inter-City's "Ayr Extension" at Lockerbie 13 01 24

- InterCity's "The Ayr Extension", Crewe to Ayr (intended but not achieved) via Glasgow Central, was booked to be looped at Lockerbie. The weather forecast was excellent so off I went armed with camera and drone. As so often on the railway, things didn't go to plan!
Hmm, well talk about deja vue. I cannot believe I am listening to a TH-camr with a voice with more than a bit of a lilt of the late Scot's broadcaster Fyfe Robertson! This is a good video helped by fantastic Scottish weather. The drone footage adds an extra gravitas to the video production!
I disagree Ayr's station is ideal for terminating a tour train with wonderful beaches! ⛱
Well well - Fyfe Robertson - that takes me back! Do I really sound like him? Wish I had his income!

@@schoolshorts You could get there. With the drone as well there is a lot of potential and currently makes it unique.
I know it well. Although it's only about 65 miles from my home it's an absolute nightmare of a journey by public transport

Lovely shots and narration as well! I was aboard the tour … the Pendolino that was following was a few minutes later, so the tour wasn’t looped until Carstairs to let the Pendolino overtake. A lovely run in the sun through the lowlands of Scotland and up and over Beattock bank … lovely day! 👍

Thank you for a great video. I liked the detail in your narration. From down under, we often need information that many TH-camrs leave out! I have been through Lockerbie by rail several times over the years. Last time (2014) it was TPE with Class 350 Haymarket to Manchester Oxford Road.

Absolutely brilliant video from your new toy even spotted the rabbit scurring away from the trackside as the tanker train pulled into the loop. Interesting to see what track is still in position beside the up loop, something you never see from ground level unless maybe from the bridge which I have never looked over for years. Many thanks John and apologies for the delayed response. Without the drone I'd be inclined to avoid Lockerbie but, as you say, it does offer a new perspective.

Yes, one man's meat ... and all that! Despite the anti-collision technology built into the drone I'm still wary about getting too close to trees and, especially, those 25000 volt wires! With time and experience I'm sure we'll achieve some magical results.

I thought it was an odd place for the rail tours destination. Great clear views from your new drone and you did OK following the train just a shame they did not go in the loop as planned.
Thanks Colin. It WAS an odd choice of destination but as the train was merely turning round and starting the return journey immediately, I don't suppose it matters all that much just where it happened. There's not much to see anyway between Barassie and Ayr.

@@schoolshorts It's years since I rode that line going on hols. I don't remember what there was between the places now LOL. I hope to get up to Carlisle again and also hope WC will sort out the mess they are in over the door locks they have not bothered to fit, and now lost their licence to run through taking the ORR to court over it and loosing the case

What an amazing voice ! l bet this guy wears a tweed waistcoat and jacket ,with a grandfather fob watch on a chain in the pocket ,smokes a big pipe and sits in front of a big log fire every evening sipping Glenfiddich !

Very enjoyable Tim. Lockerbie station is probably a pretty good spot for watching trains go by. I take it this was your new drone ?
The Pendos of course are travelling at 100 mph or more at Lockerbie and I've yet to master the art of catching them with a slow-moving drone - but we'll get there! It's great fun even when it doesn't produce quite the result I want. And yes - it is the new Mini 4.
What did Lockerby do to deserve TransPennine as there service provider?
God knows - I doubt if anyone else does.
