What’s poppin, you damn dirty apes? It’s me MT and welcome back to the HS spoilers show! With Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes coming out, we thought now was a perfect time to revisit the recent Planet of the Apes trilogy: one of the greatest trilogies that have ever been made in recent memory in my opinion. So let’s stop monkeyin about and
And this movie starts much like it ends…with a gang of chimps running free in the forest where they belong. Unfortunately for these chimpanzees, the original Planet of the Apes did in its first act, Rise of the Planet of the Apes starts with a great hunt. But instead of apes hunting man like we saw in 1968, we get man hunting down chimpanzees…with all the apes we see in this opening sequence actually being totally completely computer generated. I remember watching this movie in theaters when it first came out and being completely blown away by how damn realistic they made these chimps out to be. I mean…now that we’re in the 2020’s over a decade later, we’ve seen our fair share of animals being recreated with computer graphics in outstanding detail…with Rocket Raccoon of the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy being the most popular example…so due to the natural passage of time, the VFX in this movie can be somewhat noticeable these days.

One thing you forgot to mention! In the third film, "Escape from the Planet of the Apes", Cornelius explains the Apes' original rise to power by mentioning the plague that fell upon dogs and cats (simian flu in the new films). He also explains that Aldo was the first ape to refuse a human order by articulating the word "no" just as Caesar does in the film.

Great breakdown, but I have one protest: Douglas the pilot was not an asshole.
    1. Chimpanzee shows up in his backyard, terrifying his children. He doesn't call the police or animal control like most people would.
    2. Man tries to drive his car, is addled and instead damages it, when he clearly was in a rush probably already running late, as evidenced that he'd run back inside from his car.
    3. Tries to intervene on some guy snooping around this problem neighbor's house, the one who's chimpanzee nearly bit off his finger. For his trouble, he gets a faceful of virus-ridden blood sneezed on him. Ok, maybe he was being a little Karen-ish but not an asshole.
If I am going to give him an asshole rating it would only be for going to work AS A PILOT while sick with something that has him bleeding from the nose. If you have the option (pilots do, they're unionized), then DO NOT go to work while sick, people!

I think its safe to blame FRANKLIN for all this and not Will.
Franklin refused to kill the baby.
Franklin refused to tell anyone he was exposed.
Franklin then went out spreading the virus which doomed humanity.

Been a long time fan of the original PotA films, and I didn't think I'd like these newer ones at all but..yeah, I do. Very much.
Dawn is still the best one out of this particular trilogy, if you ask me. Andy Serkis was so good in all of them but that scene in Dawn when he confronts the humans to stay on their side of the city was phenomenal.. "Apes! Do not want..War! But..will fight..if we must! Ape! ..home! Human! ..home! Do not come back."
    So good.
The whole dynamic of Koba and Caesar as Friend to Foe was well done.
    "Ape ..not kill..ape."
    "You..are not..ape."

I see Tolkien and Lewis as doing the same thing: writing from what they know and like
Tolkien based his ideas on old mythologies and the early medieval period, esp germanic mythology. A big factor was linguistics and providing a story to act as a history within which his conlang could evolve. He seems to care deeply about the progeny of mythology and words and things being realistic but feeling epic. He had strong feelings about fantasy not being just for children and the integrity of art and what it should do. He was a scholar of Old English, emphasizing language.
Lewis based his ideas on medieval romance which often used religious themes and symbolism and borrowed willy nilly from various mythologies. Some of the most prominent fantastical things in such stories are references to local folklore or classical greco-roman mythology and (oddly enough) highly magical dwarves that are much more like Lewis's dwarves than Tolkien's dwarves. It also has colorful but generic characters that are often unnamed, like knights known by their various colored armors (black, red, green). Lewis liked stories to be fantastical, but often created a lot of grounding verisimilitude by emphasizing that people get bored, tired, hot, sweaty even when doing epic things, and people aren't happy serious or sad all the time in real life, even if they are magical beings, etc. Lewis was a scholar of medieval romance and an expert on religious allegory. He also really liked children's literature, esp victorian children's literature. His work has portal fantasy and talking animals like Alice in Wonderland, features children traveling to a mansion to have a very down to earth magic Adventure that teaches moral lessons, like 5 children and it. Etc. And he seems to be a person who primarily had their head in the cloud (in a good way) being imaginative and loving beauty and wildness and illogic, but was also trained by his tutor to be hyper rational and logical and I think you can see those two sides of his personality struggle in all he writes.
They are incredibly distinct but both sets of stories come from people writing authentically about what they know and what they like, and trying to write the kind of stories they wanted to read

Did you only watch 1 of the old Planet of the Apes movies? Cornelius and Zira travelled back in time and had a child in a later movie that started a revolution against mankind in Conquest of the Planet of the Apes. That ape, was named Ceasar. Who later named his son Cornelius (just like he does in the modern trilogy

It's not about "not having acting chimpanzees yet". It's that having acting non-human animals is not ethical and completely, in every way, morally wrong. That's literally one of the points of this whole series. Kindness, not enslavement. Non-human animals cannot consent.

Nice one! There was one missing Easter egg in the movie. When Caesar says “no,” that is a reference to the original movies. The lord of the originals refers to Caesar speaking the first word ever and starting the revolution. Much like he did in this trilogy.

I have a rather unique experience watching this movie I caught it as a rerun on TV and I didn't catch the title of the movie so I didn't know it was rise of the planet of the apes until the scene in the zoo where Caesar says no and then it hit me this is a prequel reboot of the planet of the apes this is how the apes took over the planet and Man became primitive

One quick fix I noticed, the son of the apes sanctuary didn’t die from being shocked when Caesar sprayed him with water. But he still died after the virus so lol
He delivered the iconic line saying how Caesar spoke

    • @inawoodenhouse
      @inawoodenhouse 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

those are two different characters, Dodge (the son) is the one who got sprayed and died of electrocution, the other is Rodney who the apes started to beat earlier and Caesar stopped them, then they locked him in another cage. Rodney is the one Will and Caroline find the next day and he tells them that Caesar spoke
