I also loved BLM from the first moment I played it but everyone else I know complained about the leveling. I also could be better but it's my main and I love it.
The 50-60 range Is where the big switch comes from. You not only learn fire 4 and need to keep up that but you also learn your Leylines. Before that your damage is pretty consistent but with that you turn into big burst with potential to fall out of fire phase. While not jarring it's really different.
Blackmage main here. My favorite part of being a blackmage is that there is a tremendous feeling of accomplishment when I'm learning fights. As I learn the boss fight better, my DPS performance as a Black Mage goes up together since I start to optimize as the fight progresses. Compared to my sub-class (ranged physical DPS), it has a completely different kind of feeling when I kill a boss. Some of my FC mates call me crazy, but I love learning fights as a black mage for this very reason.
If you learn a fight as a BLM, you learn everything about it. You have to know every mechanic inside and out to optimize your dps. You have to know how much you can get away with and move at the last second. It gives you that tremendous feeling of accomplishment.
"It's not about how hard you (get) hit" It's about how hard you can GET hit and keep- "And stay in your Ley Lines. And NOT move forward." ...............Welp.
2:35 Yes, that is exactly what goes through us Lala BLM players heads every time, especially during story missions where they're dealing with traitors and I'm sitting there like "Bruh, let me set him on fire."
BLM was my first class leveled to 90, is still my favorite, and the first one I did savage content with. Though this might be why all the other classes seem so easy to me. I even did the noctis Garuda fight as BLM…
As a sprout who's had to learn like a 100 boss fights over the past 3 months, I just don't have the time to master every single one. Or any for that matter. As fun as Black Mage is, it's also the only job that made me rage. Getting mc'd and then Ass Clapper 9000'd the entire duration of my Ley Lines is not fun.
@@vteccomplex you only need to master them if you want a top parse. Endwalker BLM has enough tools to make unknown fights pretty doable if you're good.
That's why I love Samurai so much. Largely outside the hard content all you gotta do is do big number which isn't difficult with Samurai's kit. I like messing around with other classes but Samurai just clicks with me.
13:59 Zep's sense of humor always catches me off-guard, because she always expect a punchline coming from one angle, only to get suckerpunched by a completely different punchline from out of nowhere.
My biggest gripe with BLM and the other casters (and NIN) is why we cast fire on fire mobs and ice on ice mobs. In every RPG ever, fire is absorbed, immune, or at least heavily reduced on fire mobs and you get bonus damage vs ice mobs, and sometimes reduced damage vs water mobs.
Black mage was literally impossible for me to play pre Endwalker, just couldn't keep enochian up and letting it drop was a huge disaster, when you already have to deal with slow cast times whilst you manage your mana, astral timer and lightning procs whilst trying not to eat mechanics and maximise leyline uptime with slidecasting. Job is legit fun for me now and practising it you can really feel yourself get better the more you play.
@@Merumya the difference was so huge for me. It just felt so much smoother. It's like 1% less damage than a crit build but it's way more flexible and mobile.
@@ayoo_wassup actually, overall a spellspeed build has higher average dmg numbers - crit can just outperform it, if you get lucky on your crits/crit with the right spells. I knew what I was going in to as I chose to be an Black Mage Main. I went through the whole Questline, without buying an Skip, 3 Times and still enjoy it. Of course it gets tough at Times, but I don't play to be at the Top, I play to have fun. Occasionally challenging myself by going through Extreme Trials or Savage Raids to improve
Similar feels. I started BLM back when I started FFXIV, so there was no red mages, etc. I still have a dusty, long forgotten archer forever at lvl 15. When Endwalker dropped and I saw enochian greyed out, it was the most difficult to unlearn in my rotation considering how essential it was for years. Still, I enjoy playing around with rotation to find the optimal one and pop paradox when I can. I think BLM attracts creative problem solvers or at the very least, those who can micromanage in games. Moves like aetherial manipulation or between the lines are essential when used timely and right. Next to tank jobs, we arguably need to know the layout of dungeons, raids, etc. for both timing and predicting boss mechanics just as much. Lastly, big spooky hats. I love me some hats.
Love me my BLM! Four words about why I love BLM - triple cast fire 4! I love BLM - it’s been my main class since the beginning. Do I die? Yes. A lot. Just because it’s my main class doesn’t make it my best class (okay, I’m equally bad at most of my classes - except scholar, which I’m even worse at). BLM is, oddly, the only class that doesn’t have some kind of self heal. Yes, there’s a crappy 15 second shield that’s shattered after one hit and has a 2 minute cool down. Can protect you from dying if it’s timed right, but…. Regardless, I love BLM. And I had no issues with leveling it, honestly. BLM is sheer fun. And death. A lot of death. But mostly fun.
Why summoner gets a huge shield every 30 seconds whilst instant casting most of their spells I will never know. Guess it just adds to it being a super easy job to play with low damage it's reward.
Playing a black mage in ff14 is just playing a rhythm game, but where your rhythm is set to Johnny cash, and the bosses Rythm is dragon force, on violin
As a blm main, it looks cool....but it really does ass dmg compared to how difficult dps is compared to all other classes. Went ninja, was much happier
yeah this. it would need to be much higher damage to be worth how much of a pain it is not only to play as, but play with. It's not even top dps right now.

Wanna know what I'd like in FF14? A 10-min CD ability that lets you switch your gear set for, say, 20 seconds. Wanna play Black Mage? Peachy. But if the healz just ate it you can pop into Red Mage for the rez, then go back to nuking. It'd make for some really nice clutch moments.
As much as I'd like it as an Omni class type of person, it could be a huge issue for people who main a single job or single role, which h is a decent enough number of them. Besides, if you do this it would shift the RDPS that selfish classes, like BLM and SAM bring because you'd also have buffs as an option. I do like the concept though. Maybe some kind if middle ground could work, but I can't think of a solid one right now.
@@hellfrozenphoenix13 I mean, it'd also incentivize those single-class players to branch out, experience more of the game, and maybe find another class or role that they didn't know they jived with. And it wouldn't mess with the "selfish" classes much, as they'd only be able to pull off a buff once every 10 min...and then only if they're comfortable blowing the CD for that purpose...
He may not have played BLM for 10k hours, but it was just a continuation from another video he did about WoWs mage class :) Also a very fun video. Whether he really played 10k hours, no idea... but its a nice number none the less and he does know a thing or two about it... even though he didnt get to Endwalker yet XD

When Zepla indignantly said Reaper isn't selfish because it has Arcane Circle that was my reaction the first time too. Can't argue that my rotation is so easy a child could do it tho.
Its based on a book by malcolm Gladwell "outliers: the story of success" which got big in the business world but is largely regarded as containing questionable conclusions.
The age of the video reply is back and i didn't really put 2 and 2 together on that for a while but... way back reaction videos, response videos were a thing. That died for like... idk? 7 years? Idk if Asmon brought this form back but i'm happy it's a thing again. I had a Black Mage at the launch of ARR. Amazing class but extremely hard to position right, you have to know fights ahead of time and where to stand, how long etc. Satisfying to play, absolutely badass but most of the time i played i was getting whooped because the game was new, and nobody knew jack squat about mechanics lol. Don't recommend Black Mage to anyone less than a studied addict.
The most important things you need to keep track of when playing Black Mage are: - Enochian timer (aka Eno-chan) - Your instant casts so that you can move without losing damage - The aggro priority so that you know you're dealing more damage than anyone else (Heal spam doesn't count, f- off Red Mages, I'm not paid enough for this)
I’ve played black mage since my very first time playing, and despite trying out other jobs I couldn’t stick with any of them. Now that I’m replaying the game (because I’ve comepletly forgotten the story) I’m going with that at urge again. Even with all that said, I still have absolutely no fucking clue what I’m doing.
Its not that bad its just a different kind of job people blow up its dificulty it has tons of tools for movement now it requires planning more than anything not unlike playing a healer and the rotation is simple
@@COMMANDandConquer199 Yeah, early stuff is really easy. Worst part of leveling it is that later down the line your main rotation changes every 10 levels but once it clicks, it just clicks and it's super fun to play. Hope you'll enjoy it as well as the game!
@@Nhyufll It has lots of movement at 90, yes, but at older levels it still feels really janky to play. Blm just has a ton of optimization and that's where the difficulty comes in. For example, you can put down ley lines whenever and move out of it for an aoe, or you can learn the entire fight and know what the most optimal time is to use your ley lines effectively. This and it being the caster with the longest cast times definitely makes it the hardest job in the game if you ask me
I started the game as a black mage, but quickly realized I had entered hell by doing so, and created an entirely different character to play as dragoon until I got high enough level to unlock more jobs. I am now max level, and I main reaper. Best decision I made in this game.
The rotation changing every 10 level fucks with me because sometimes I mix them all up and I play on controller so roulettes happen and I neglect to see I have a skill and mid dungeon I realize I've had flare the entire time and oh I'm bad at the game.
I remember not so long ago it was frowned upon to be a complete dick, and laugh about it, in FFXIV. WoW crowd join the game and In the space of a year the attitude is on its head. I'm sure nothing bad will happen.
I mean, the WoW Crowd is always there. That's why endgame content exists even though it completely goes against the ethos of the game. They suck in WoW players for a month sub, who promptly clear the content they want to and then go back to WoW or another holdover MMO.
lol- I didn't even realize this because I was only leveling the job to 90 for completionism and then immediately dropped it. It's hilarious that he'd make a video like this for a job he doesn't even have at max level. Hell- I'm not even sure he's made it to EW yet.

"It's not about how hard you (get) hit"
It's about how hard you can GET hit and keep-
"And stay in your Ley Lines. And NOT move forward."
...............Welp.
2:35 Yes, that is exactly what goes through us Lala BLM players heads every time, especially during story missions where they're dealing with traitors and I'm sitting there like "Bruh, let me set him on fire."
Also a Lala BLM. This is 100% true. lol
Black mage lala here can confirm.. death and destruction etc.
Really though, when you manage to suffer being a Black Mage to it's higher levels the power you have in your hands is... thrilling. *Evil Pint smile.*
BLM was my first class leveled to 90, is still my favorite, and the first one I did savage content with. Though this might be why all the other classes seem so easy to me.
I even did the noctis Garuda fight as BLM…
I was the same with the noctis garuda fight
As a sprout who's had to learn like a 100 boss fights over the past 3 months, I just don't have the time to master every single one. Or any for that matter.
As fun as Black Mage is, it's also the only job that made me rage. Getting mc'd and then Ass Clapper 9000'd the entire duration of my Ley Lines is not fun.
@Reaghan I meant mastering the boss fights. Really gotta know what's going to happen what you can get away with as Black Mage.
Don't worry, black mages, as a scholar I will always provide a shield so you can stand in the assbusters without dying.
There are so many pints in this video that it's now a quart. :D
6:43 is from metal gear. For those wondering.
I just can't wait for 10000 hours of Blue Mage, nothing's more fun than attacking with all sorts of random attacks between 2 or more Blue Mages.
Zepla's hearty laugh always gives me motivation 😂
Pint doesn't see the world as a glass half full or empty, but a full pint of joy end effortness. 😁
Job is legit fun for me now and practising it you can really feel yourself get better the more you play.
playing spellspeed instead of crit made it a lot more enjoyable. Its not too much, but adds a bit more wiggle room
And it has better synergy with dancer. but I dont need that. usually I can keep up in dps even with dancer-assisted dps classes ;)
8:20 no I believe that's his character before hand. like parallel worlds or maybe a demon in the characters image thats lies within.
I'm tempted to create a lala character just for black mage just to be a murder gremlin
Reminder that it's actually canon that Y'shtola actually has leylines at the bottom of the soles of her shoes
@@TheKa89 I'm not as much a Fan of oversized Hats and agree with Shatoto on this one. We don't need to compensate for anything
I’m seeing the horrors coming out of Bucha and am so glad you got out. I hope all your friends are ok.
Starting to level a black mage rn, i love pint he's hilarious and his editing is top tier
How do I get this small circle at the spell bar that shows me when I can move?
Playing a black mage in ff14 is just playing a rhythm game, but where your rhythm is set to Johnny cash, and the bosses Rythm is dragon force, on violin
As a blm main, it looks cool....but it really does ass dmg compared to how difficult dps is compared to all other classes.
Went ninja, was much happier
yeah this. it would need to be much higher damage to be worth how much of a pain it is not only to play as, but play with. It's not even top dps right now.
She's a cat girl
She don't try to hide it
leylines on the soles of her shoes
People say she's catzy!
She got leylines on the soles of her shoes
Well that's one way to lose these
DPS blues
Leylines on the soles of her shoes
Beautiful, you may have heard the sound of silence to this joke, but while i have 50 ways to leave my leylines, this recognition comes from the pugilist, me and zodiark down by the schoolyard.
As a Viera Black Mage i dont even get a big hat… just extra anger
He may not have played BLM for 10k hours, but it was just a continuation from another video he did about WoWs mage class :) Also a very fun video. Whether he really played 10k hours, no idea... but its a nice number none the less and he does know a thing or two about it... even though he didnt get to Endwalker yet XD
Why was the advertisement skipped in the video?
It Gets Better At Level 42 (Fire Starter!)!
The key with black mage glamour is to have all your glamour streamlined. Like jeans regular shoes a regular baseball hat and all black
Imo not skipping the ad would be a nice thing to do when doing a reaction. Give and take.
If you believe in yourself and with a tiny pinch of magic, all your dreams can come true
oh i love black mage, it use to be my main but juggling all the new mobility on a controller is rough.
I automatically love this video. My cat has his left ear flopped like that bc he got attacked by another cat and his bite got infected. The surgery left his ear that way bc they had to cut into the cartilage. ❤
6:45 NANOMACHINES SON!
13:30 once you go black, you never go back
I started on Black Mage. Out of my 618 hours, probably 500 have been on black mage. I did the entire MSQ on it. It's a fun challenge to learn
When Zepla indignantly said Reaper isn't selfish because it has Arcane Circle that was my reaction the first time too. Can't argue that my rotation is so easy a child could do it tho.
The BLM dummy rotation is even easier. Difficulty in BLM is entirely in positioning, dodging, and recovery.
My popoto WAR is just playing BFG Division on repeat in her head at all times.
Samurai Rise Up!
Y'shtola literally went "Nah."
And drew leylines on the soles of her boots. Why can't we do that, Yoshi P, Huh?!
Why can't WE cheat the system?!
02:31 yep, pretty much all the time
Black Mages and Tanks: eating AoEs for uptime
7:35 okay. Just another reason to get stepped on by Y'shtola.
Can some one list the items pint is wearing? I been blk mage since day 1 And i neeeeed that outfit
Hey zepla just sub love your reactions :) u are still play ffxiv and in what server in europe??
10,000 hours is the generic amount of time to devote to something to master it. Or so they say.
Its based on a book by malcolm Gladwell "outliers: the story of success" which got big in the business world but is largely regarded as containing questionable conclusions.
it is whats in our head we as lalafell love pain and destruction
Damn why ya skip the ads?
I watched this video so many times and I just realized the summoner is wearing Rydia's outfit.
I’ve never been this early to a Zepla video! Hi Zepla! Love your videos!
This is so wholesome; I hope she sees it!
The most important things you need to keep track of when playing Black Mage are:
- Enochian timer (aka Eno-chan)
- Your instant casts so that you can move without losing damage
- The aggro priority so that you know you're dealing more damage than anyone else (Heal spam doesn't count, f- off Red Mages, I'm not paid enough for this)
played to 60 on my black mage and once I got used to the abilities it got good. 60 because of minimum all classes to 60 and I started dancing.
Dude, the very first Black Mage was a Lalafell.
Zepla feeling called out being a Reaper
Glad to see you back!
Me accidentally maining BLM in Endwalker and relate to everything Pint says 🖤
SMN here and they fuckin' rule.
The laugh of Zepla could give a dead man life.
It's not about how hard you can hit, it's about how hard you can get.
this is the reaction video i was waiting for!!!!
As a brand new player who chose thaumaturge as my first character, I feel afraid for what's ahead. Although, it honestly doesn't seem that bad so far.
What level are you at?
@@Alexander_Nafait Almost 20.
Its not that bad its just a different kind of job
people blow up its dificulty it has tons of tools for movement now it requires planning more than anything not unlike playing a healer and the rotation is simple
This and it being the caster with the longest cast times definitely makes it the hardest job in the game if you ask me
Pint's videos are always so next level.
That vivo costume is way too cute
I started the game as a black mage, but quickly realized I had entered hell by doing so, and created an entirely different character to play as dragoon until I got high enough level to unlock more jobs. I am now max level, and I main reaper. Best decision I made in this game.
Zepla's laugh is our soul.
They should just make it so blm can cast while moving but it severely reduces cast speed until you're standing still again
Love her laugh
There’s always been a WoW crowd in FFXIV. Zepla was once part of the WoW crowd and look at all the positive she’s done for the community.
What in the world are you talking about?
But you literally just press Paradox to refresh Enochian. Did Pint make this video pre-lvl90?
lol- I didn't even realize this because I was only leveling the job to 90 for completionism and then immediately dropped it. It's hilarious that he'd make a video like this for a job he doesn't even have at max level. Hell- I'm not even sure he's made it to EW yet.
I have not played blm since hw on different character, man o remember the struggle. Then attempting to level up white mage just to get heal and twincast.
Ohno. She cut out the ad. Pints are always awesome.
