    So, it's come to my attention to run a raffle in Canada you either have to be a charity or a non-profit organization . Since I am a non-profit-business I legally can't do this. So I have refunded everyone and truly feeling very silly and embarrassed for not looking into this before now. However, I am very encouraged by all the support and will look at other options for something like this in the future, perhaps a Patreon account...

      I was WONDERING why I got that email! #58 too, I felt such a good chance of winning! If you open up a way to directly donate to you, that $5 is still yours tho!

      Just set up the patreon and see how it goes.
      You can't have a raffle but what if you held a drawing at a certain date to be given to a random patreon supporter? Just a thought. Laws about raffles are weird.

      @@The_Osprey a business set up such that they can't keep profits, after paying for upkeep, wages, etc. This can apply to any business, but mostly used for ones that like, feed the homeless, help abuse victims, promote community health etc.

    Hard to believe a blacksmith didn't realize the bit was a different colour because it's the hardened section of the axe.

  • @deathguard12

    I recently started restoring old sledge hammers, I picked up 5 12-14lb heads for £10, cleaned one of them up to discover it was from an old sword/gunsmith company from the 1800s, now im on the hunt for more, great fun uncovering history of old tools.

  • @FayuYang
    @FayuYang 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    The reason why there's two color on the axe head, it's because there are two materials used when they forged the axe head. Darker side is the harden, more carbon in it. Hults Bruk ( or Hultafor in North American market) is a 300 years old Swedish axe company! Very lucky you found one! Hello from Toronto!!

    I have a huge amount of respect for the fact that you feel that way about patreon and would much rather earn your money there's very few people left out there like us and nobody these days wants to have to actually put in an honest day's work for a paycheck so I commend you and it shows the type of person you really are

      With a slight risk of sounding like a dick. How can you not know about tempering lines? Or the hotdog in a bun technique? Where you put a bit of tool steel into a softer bit of steel/iron?

    I believe that the the hatchet was edge hardened and the striking face was left soft, so as not to shatter when you strike it. Also to absorb the energy from a chop and, again, not shatter. Very smart design.

    patreons voluntary, no ones holding a gun to someones head and making them pay. content creators deserve to be paid for all their work, and im sure plenty of people would be happy to support you. and you can always do more stuff on patreon. extra bits of video, first looks at new projects, maybe even slots for preordering new products.
    do it man, plenty would support it, and you could ease your own financial burden for putting out content for us.

    I’d say the line on the axe would be the hardening line, when you quench and etch a Damascus blade and you dont put the whole thing is the oil you can see where it was quenched and the evaporust eched the blade because it is some sort of acid

  • @capitalwaffle9000
    @capitalwaffle9000 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    The different colour of steel is because the edge is harder high carbon steel to maintain a better edge, longer with a softer steel behind it! That axe had decades of life left to it and looks really well restored!! Well done!

    I cheatded, by heating the whole in the owen, originally for changein the colour of the handle. Now the handle shrunk and came loose.
    What to do ?
    Now I firmly set the axe head to the handle with many blows with the handle to the stone.
    Then I formed a wall made out of placteciene, or modelling-clay around the eye.
    Now I poured the most thin Epoxy-Recin into the voids, to cement the shaft to the head. Extremely effective and strong.
    Even a Viking, could not have invented such an effective method.

    You can do a similar monthly raffle system on patreon. $1 is like just wanting to help out and maybe have an easier ability to talk to you and give input, $5 is one entry, $10 is two entries and maybe an extra incentive like early access to videos. Or whatever you feel is justified. Because you could make some easy content like restoring random antiques like the axe and be able to give it to one of your patrons a month. Plus early contributors have the best chances to receive one of the giveaways, so it'll help with patreon growth
