Some people in the comments I see are saying this is fake cause the shark didn't bite him but not all sharks attack immediately and it might not have been hungry.
Yep mst sharks won't attack humans on purpose they thin were seals if they see we aren't seals, or thrashing in the water like a mad man, theyll leave us alone
Yeah I just watched that video like 3 mins ago and straight away it looks like professional footage. The fact that he's so steady when looking at the shark is a giveaway. If I saw a shark whilst swimming I'd be moving frantically and the camera images would be unstable and blurry....
I'm a huge fisherman and I just want to say whether it's real or fake one you absolutely would have your head in the water trying to see it you can't out swim it so facing it while slowly retreating is your best bet and secondly the shark makes an appropriate amount of water action on the surface don't forget the swimmer is also flailing frantically on the water since he jumped so that's clearly why the waters churned
Yes of course, my friend yells "Shark!" and I cant tell if its a seal or a dolphin or a shark underwater, I better go closer to make sure my friend isn't lying
The word you're looking for for the surface distortion is 'wake' as in 'something breaking the surface in a line such as a fish or boat would leave a wake behind it.'
Yeah, a wake where the fin breaks the surface but you know how you also get disturbance like say how a swimming pool water jet would cause...or something.
Also, in the beginning you can see the fish eye effect on the bars. When he is looking at the shark and at the end of the video there isn't a fish eye effect.
Another reason it's fake: When he jumped in the water was dark blue. Once he goes up told there's a shark behind him, goes under to film it, now the water is a blue green and brighter. Oh not to mention that the water moves ALOT MORE on the top of ur screen.
Two reasons why this IS fake: 1. I fish there all the time. It's only a few streets from my house and the bottom is nothing like that. 2. You can see there are different markings on the shark at different points. So, unless there were two sharks, it was fake.
Yes the west Auzzi Tele-Port Jackson, is a very unusual and elusive, yet friendly shark. They would make good pets, but they can easily escape the tank.
im just wondering why the fuck he freaked out and how it teleported... why go crazy about a shark? the shark doesnt eat Humans it werent even trying to and he almost fucking kicked it? how stupid is that guy even if it was real which its not he would've gotten eaten just because of his reaction
If you rewatch the original video and slow the speed down, you can clearly see that the shark "jumps" because the man jerks his head really fast. In the slowed version, you can see that his head moves, and the shark doesn't "teleport".
Your points are valid, I have not experienced swimming near a shark and would hopefully never have to. But I have swam alongside a cliff similar to that one before and the transition of surface to underwater does not look right. Also it is very hard to see under water without the help of some sort of goggles. And I have gone fishing before, and with the size of a shark would leave enough of a wake to be able to see once he had resurfaced. So yes, I agree that this is a fake.
It's illuminati. They're using sharks to attack Australian cliff divers to steal their oreos. You can clearly see this in the video when the shark flies out of the window like shrek does in shrek is love shrek is life. Another point is when the shark starts doing the cat-daddy and wearing a swag shirt. This means it's a hipster, illuminati shark. True story. The real plot twist is, his friend is a shark in disguise. True story. Believe me. :l
All the surface shots show a nice, calm, in-the-harbor-on-a-fine-day sea state of little ripples. When the camera goes under water, there's suddenly 1-1.5m swell rolling through like they're outside the harbor in the ocean on a fairly calm day. So yeah, fake. Unless you guys know some way to make a gopro make the waves look ten times bigger underwater than they are on the surface, in which case, real as bro.
When he is on top of the jump and looking down at the water you can see the ripples when he jumps in and sees the shark and the rises to the top the water it is the exact same as when he was on top of the jump there is no swell it is still ripples. When he is in the water
Great points.... I felt really dumb after you said he wouldn't be able to see anything without goggles. One thing I thought was suspicious was the distance of the shark to the rock wall at 1:05-1:10. The speed at which the shark is traveling towards the wall, plus the size of the shark, makes me think it would have run into it. The closeness of the rocks can be more clearly seen at 1:10 and again at 1:12. Thanks for posting this vid! Love your channel.
I thought he was taking a scene out of Jumper. Damn shark, must not have cleared it with Shark Week and the Discovery Channel. They can't show off the teleport skills for another 5 more seasons.
you do realise that sydney harbour is notorious for having great whites, bull sharks and tiger sharks in the harbour. it wouldn't be uncommon for him to see it.
If it is fake, it is a great fake. Someone yells "Shark!" the first thing I'm doing is getting under and looking for it, goggles or not. You always assess the threat... its instinct. Dude, GoPro has software that is user friendly so having the GoPro Logo is perfectly normal and helps get your video on the GoPro Channel. You can choose to cut it out, but why when it gives your video instant cool points.
I have done a fair bit surfing on east coast of Aus, spent a lot of time underwater without goggles. Have to disagree on your goggle opinion. As far as I remember about thumbnails you get a choice of 4 thumbnails, of exactly 0% 25% 75% and 100%. People used to edit the videos to make sure they got the thumbnail they wanted. Gopro people are a community, people search gopro and people put gopro in the titles like any other community. Don't see that issue with that.
What about at the beginning when the shark goes to the left of the swimmer. Between the swimmer and the cliff. You don't see the cliff. It's just open water.
I actually went shark swimming today. The Shark didnt teleport . They are fast af but I believe this is fake. When he put his hand out and the shark moved you could see in the background that the surface of the water was bubbling and you could see it under water but when he surfaces it was calm af. Only time the water bubbles like that is when a big wave breaks into another or just breaks in mid ocean.
Here's another reason I thought of why this is fake: The impact of him hitting the water, the scream and the amount of thrashing he is doing underwater should have lured a shark in for lunch. IF the shark was real and actually did get as close to him as we saw, there would have been no way to out swim a hungry shark.
One other point, when the shark (and not overly large) is first allegedly seen from the point ashore it is well beneath the swimmer in vertical separation and would not have been visible in the conditions. Im surprised they didn't have it on the surface with dorsal fin exposed
As someone that’s surfed for twenty years, I disagree with the comment about goggles, because it all depends on the water clarity as to how well you can see, yes it’s obviously a bit blurry without goggles, but you can still see quite well as long as the water isn’t too murky! Not saying it isn’t faked just saying the comment about goggles is bullshit. And I would definitely be looking under the water to see where the bastard is.
Thinking outside the box... Craig, you seem to know faaaar too much about this video and the editing process... are you the Scarlet Pimpernel of this video
It's a great fake. The big thing that stood out for me is the surface of the water when he is under, compared to the surface when he pops up. Watch from 2:25 to 2:28 in this video. The water he jumped into is pretty calm and flat, you can see that constantly from his pov. The under water footage clearly has waves breaking on the surface. The shark footage is real and was probably shot off seal island here in false bay, So who ever filmed that has big balls. That video was a great idea and who ever made it has some awesome skills.
i use GoPro in the beginning of my videos to let the viewer know beforehand that the video will be good quality and not just a crappy, shakey phone camera video
The man probably didn't stop to look at the shark, he probably stopped so he didn't create a huge commotion and cause the shark to think it was maybe an injure fish or something and attack it.
The things that I found fake: *the shark was claimed to be a great white, but it’s a blacktip, which is a shark that has only had about one unprovoked attack which was like a century ago. *blacktips are usually smaller than that, what is the chance he found an abnormally large blacktip?
you wouldnt want to go straight to the shore because fast movements will make the shark think your struggling. a quote of this website www.australiangeographic.com.au/topics/wildlife/2011/10/how-to-avoid-a-shark-attack/ "9. Avoid splashing and move smoothly in the water. While this often cannot be avoided, Chris says to be aware of relevant conditions such as "whether or not there are other attractants near you" - such as fishers or schools of baitfish - or even AC/DC music. If there are, then it is best to splash as little as possible." another quote from this website "www.wikihow.com/Survive-a-Shark-Attack" "Stay calm and don't make sudden movements. When you first spot the shark, chances are it will swim away without bothering you. You cannot out-swim a shark, so trying to sprint to safety may not be your best option, unless you're already very close to shore. It's important to keep your wits about you so you can continuously appraise the situation and figure out how to get to safety. Move slowly toward the shore or a boat; choose whichever is closest. Don't thrash your arms or kick or splash while you swim. Do not block the shark's path. If you're standing between the shark and the open ocean, move away.[2] Don't turn your back on the shark as you move. Remember, it's important to keep the shark in view."
I'm not saying fake or real, but what throws me off is the clarity of the water. It's not clear so how the hell does his friend see a shark that looks about 10ft underwater. MMMM unless the shark was at the waterline which you would have seen when he jumped, there's no way it just dove that deep unless it was making a move to kill. That's how most sharks attack from the bottom to the top.
I disagree with a few of your reasons: 3) it may be blurry but if it was me is sure as he'll look to see where it is you only need to get a idea of distance. Other reason) often you can watch videos of Fails, and often the person behind the camera or "failure" to say "I can't believe I got that!" Or "did you get that". So i think the fact that he turned the camera on his face is not sufficient evidence.
the first thing you said, i.e. 'everything you would want in a shark attack video' is there, is exactly what put me off, because the effects are actually pretty believable. I would be fooled with the effects he used if I'm being honest, but the acting, the lay out of the video pretty much is what nudged me and suggested fake. I video edit a bit (only video games) and even at my ametuer level, I could tell it was fake...because you could lay it out on a story board way too easily
also. His friend screams shark. And not only does the man swim toward the danger. When the shark comes out of the blue, it's at least 20 feet down. The dude on the cliff did not see that far under the surface especially with the water being as choppy and dark as it was
Yeah, who knows. I can easily see Sting Rays from my apartment which is on the 9th floor. Sometimes an elevated vantage point helps see under the surface.
Another reason why it is fake is if u move around the way he did the shark wouldn't know what it so he would bite it to see if it was a seal or something
Completely agree with your third point. A group of friends and I were jumping off a jetty and a couple of us noticed a dark shade and dorsal fin emerge from the water, so we yelled out shark. The first thing two of my friends did who were in the water was just swim as fast as they could, there was no looking back for it.
The only chance any of us have in a shark attack, if you are lucky enough to reach it, is to jam your finger or fingers in the sharks eye. That goes for any animal or person for that matter. No matter how big a person is, there eyeball is always vulnerable.
Actually the nose is one of the best places to hit a shark, as they have a bunch of nerve endings there. It’s the equivalent of a kick in the balls for a shark.
have you ever tried diving without goggles? I can actually see pretty clearly even in quite dirty waters. Atleast enough to know when something is moving 2m from me. Still fake tho but just saying that some of your reasons are kinda long shots.
All this debate is a part of that video's success and there is an unavoidable trap, not a vicious one though, for everyone. Let's just take it easy and enjoy some nice editing!
you're actually meant to put your head underwater to see where the shark is, just saying... i don't care if the video is fake or not but pretty much all of his points are invalid
the thing the jumped out at me was how casually he got out of the water when he made it to the rocks, there is no way anybody would take their time....I'd be leaping out knowing is would grab me just before I could escape....
I love that people are picking this apart from the editing down to the reaction to try and prove that it is fake. I am a shark enthusiast, lover, and a Master Diver and seeing this gave me chills. While some of the points with editing I can't fully disagree, mostly because I'm not a pro Editor, I can comment that I got to chose my thumbnail and I have one video uploaded. I also know that GoPro are crystal clear digital camera's that are amazing to work with. If I was swimming and someone yelled "SHARK" in murky water you'd bet my fucking ass I'd stick my head under to see it, blurry or not. That's pretty much all I have to add. I'd love to think it was real as I am envious of his encounter with such an incredible creature of the sea.
I don't think fear of sharks is irrational, they can kill you! And I don't think the video, fake or not, perpetuates it because the shark doesn't even attack.
I like this video. I mean, it's true that the video has A LOT of defects. Being a photographer and having a GoPro, that you cannot edit videos with GoPros. To edit videos or photos they need to be in raw... so this could totally be fake. It does look like it was absolutely modified and I think that this is fake.
I was at this beach 2 weeks before this was uploaded. Mid summer at cabbage tree beach is packed and there are loads of people lining up to jump off that rock, seems weirdly empty that day...
+Bumble Bee WHAT THE FUCK? warhammer 40k look real (debatabe) we dont live in the year 40,000 and serve the god emperor of man kind on his 10,000 year crusade against everything! and some movies look real aswell! please delete your comment its stupid.
Also why would you ever put on a camera to look around underwater if you aren’t wearing goggles and therefore can’t see where your facing. Just doesn’t make any sense.
Some people in the comments I see are saying this is fake cause the shark didn't bite him but not all sharks attack immediately and it might not have been hungry.

he probably knows not to swim frantically... if you see a shark you're not supposed to because he will mistaken you for prey.
Why fear a shark? If they bug you just punch them in the nose... they'll go away.
Not all the time, that'll make em angry sometimes, and then you will be in trouble.

have you ever tried diving without goggles? I can actually see pretty clearly even in quite dirty waters. Atleast enough to know when something is moving 2m from me. Still fake tho but just saying that some of your reasons are kinda long shots.
in the conclusion at the end, so he IS still doubting a tiny bit it could be real lol.
Audio too, when the gopro is in its case you dont hear anything and if u hear is not so clear to hear "aaaayyyy shaaark!"
None of the friends shouting after the first shark alert... Why?
All this debate is a part of that video's success and there is an unavoidable trap, not a vicious one though, for everyone. Let's just take it easy and enjoy some nice editing!
you're actually meant to put your head underwater to see where the shark is, just saying... i don't care if the video is fake or not but pretty much all of his points are invalid
the thing the jumped out at me was how casually he got out of the water when he made it to the rocks, there is no way anybody would take their time....I'd be leaping out knowing is would grab me just before I could escape....
I could tell it was fake once you saw the shark the second time, it looked like 2 clips fused together
I think it's real and that's my opinion you believe what you believe I'm not against that.
I think its real.+ lyle place
People just get mad cause that video gets more views than all their videos
also the person might not like commenting. that also proves nothing
Great White Sharks live in warm water and to me the water in the Gopro video looks cold
Hahaha, you're so wrong.
rhys burles The water is warm?
+MLG JK great white sharks are cold blood
+MLG JK Great Whites range from Alaska to the southern tip of Argentina. They live in both warm and cold water.
When he screams there are no bubbles....
And they where in a marina
Secondly how would you edit in a shark from GoPro quality footage, you would have some fucked up frames from it Because the strain on it's quality
you are posting this on every video
This link proves the video is fake..www.campaignbrief.com/2014/09/roadshow-films-outback-selfie.html
Morgan Westbrook i don't think he understands when people are just being smart asses....I am Literally just trolling the video at this point
the shark was a paid actor
I bet it is real because it looks so not fake there might even be multiply sharks in the water
I like this video. I mean, it's true that the video has A LOT of defects. Being a photographer and having a GoPro, that you cannot edit videos with GoPros. To edit videos or photos they need to be in raw... so this could totally be fake. It does look like it was absolutely modified and I think that this is fake.
Who cares if it's fake it's still entertaining and it ruins it when someone explains as hard as they can to convince us that it's fake
I was at this beach 2 weeks before this was uploaded. Mid summer at cabbage tree beach is packed and there are loads of people lining up to jump off that rock, seems weirdly empty that day...
And the 10th reason is there would have been a little turd floating in the water after the guy shit his drawers.
How is it fake it looks so real
I can tell between fake and real
+Bumble Bee WHAT THE FUCK? warhammer 40k look real (debatabe) we dont live in the year 40,000 and serve the god emperor of man kind on his 10,000 year crusade against everything! and some movies look real aswell!
please delete your comment its stupid.
I live in Sydney & i've been in Sydney harbour before & I totally agree with what this guy is saying.
Also why would you ever put on a camera to look around underwater if you aren’t wearing goggles and therefore can’t see where your facing. Just doesn’t make any sense.
Well I have a go pro and IT DROPS FRAME RATE UNDER WATER
Off course their is gonna be going this way, that way, and all over the place because he is trying to get away from the shark
I'm Australian
His second video is of a bloke taking a selfie in a tornado, pretty sure you could write it off...
The first time I watched it I thought it was fake but I've since become convinced it's real but maybe this will prove otherwise
and the shark is under the water. I mean UNDER UNDER. It would be butter smooth
You know that I always felt that it was fake too.
