You can tell he actually wants love at the start but something bad happens each time he looks for it. In the pokemon heartful thing at 1:58 he doesn't know how to act when he sees love anymore which leads to him knocking everyone else down (race part) until at the final one where at that point he doesn't want love and decides to destroy the heart leaving him empty.
1:22 as soon as he goes for the heart, he gets ambushed.
1:31 and 1:36 when he opens up the heart doors, he's only met with more enemies

Not even just breaking a bond, I've never been in a romantic relationship before, but even having good friendships broken can sting dude. Like recently my friendship with some people I look up to and respect was tested. I had lied to them a while ago and I finally came clean about it, and I felt so broken and undeserving of their friendship.

I feel like the song isn’t only about a break up. But a break up caused by fear. Skull guy wants love but doesn’t know how to accept it, not necessarily commitment issues, just anxiety over wrong choices. Like how in a Pokemon segment, ‘Talk’ was an option but after stressing over what to choose he ran away. Or in the dating sim when someone was interested in him all of his dialogue options were negative and he ended up running again.
Look at the bubble game at 2:44 he tried to play the game but when he made a wrong move and saw the bubbles getting closer he panics and ends up losing the game for himself.
It all may be more related to social anxieties and not being able to express yourself, and what you mean, the way you want to. And in turn not having good connections. Or “the love you need”
I think the devil heart at 1:16 represents toxic relationships im sure someone can make something out of that

I like your angle, but I would argue that this song is more based on a post-break up scenario where skull guy struggles to get over a past love (the final heart). In the LOZ arena, he encounters a number of heart shaped objects (leaves, rocks, etc.), but nothing can fill the void in his hearts. The few times he gets a chance, he quickly panics and attempts to make a move before being overrun by the scenario

If only it worked that way but the truth is this is often what really happens when you lose 'the one'. What's not inserted is your family telling you it was always going to be that way because she was married and you had no business being in open relationship. Nice how the crushing sadness and unending pain is portrayed with video games though! Eternally single people do that a fair bit from my experience.
My interpretation. The love in question developed naturally, like a wildflower. Two people were hanging out with each other and one day realized they're in love. But when that love fell apart, they didn't know how to start looking for someone else, so they get scared/confused whenever someone shows any interest in them.

LYRICAL ANALYSIS:
I've been listening to this song for a while, and I realize it's not necessarily about romantic love. It could be about any sort of love. Skull Guy had someone he loved very much, and became dependent on. After that person was no longer in the picture, he was alone, an alien experience for him. When they tell him to dance, they're saying he'll be fine on his own, and he can be self sufficient. He may have been convinced whatever bond he had was unhealthy. He felt liberated, but he now feels he's falling. That person was his world, and he depended on them. He has no idea of who he is independently, or how to operate alone. He's working alone, but only barely, hence the low HP. He wants any sort of bond again, but when it occurs, he gets scared and flees, fearing any change or abandonment again. He doesn't want to risk anything, as if he gets hurt by anything, he'll fall. They convinced him to go solo to dance, but it turns out it wasn't healthy for him. This really hits home for me, as I moved out of my foster parents home last year, and have been living alone. I can operate, but I desire any bond. I was abandoned by my biological parents, and always clinged to anyone who showed any interest in me. Not everyone is ready to exit a relationship, and it can be detrimental for someone who fears loneliness. People like Skull Guy and I, we thrive around people, but loneliness takes a heavy toll. Without anyone, we're hollow, doing whatever we can to fill the cavity where we store other people.

Everyone is saying this song is about a relationship, but I don’t think it is.
This is a song about a person who has been cast out into the real world with no advice or direction, just after being told to, for lack or a better phrase, burn through everyday life. As a child, we probably have all been told to “toughen up” or “truck through it” if you’re a midwestern kid like me. Even when I was in obvious pain and had my mental health down, I was told to get up and get to it. In this song, he is “tired of independence” this man was obviously sent into the real world without any help or anything to rely on, and him being on “1 hp” is him in constant danger or losing everything because he doesn’t have help, hope, or love.

It could be both! It really did have a lot of romantic connotations ("Find another darling", the very obvious dating sim thing, chasing after a heart throughout everything, and many main lyrics implying the breakup), so it could be people telling him to toughen up and deal with it and just move on, continue with life, which is very difficult(both life and moving on like magic), so having to balance that out has him under constant stress
It can go either way, so I don't know why you just decide to say it's not about something without any basis behind why it's not.
Also, the lyrics point to it being about a relationship, but the protagonist can't love himself, so he can't love others.

Honestly I seem some people making theories about this song, but I personally think its about TLT themselves, specifically about how all their older songs have hundreds of millions of views and how recently (and kind of for a while now) it seems like a lot of fans/listeners have just stopped or moved on. These whole theme would line up with so many lines of the song, and would also match how the game Skull Guy is in keeps changing and adapting. One specific reoccurring thing of the songs video is that all the hearts end up being enemies, and I feel like that could def be how a lot of people will hype up one song, and then ignore the next, creating this false feeling of achievement only to be let down.

It's a cool theory nonetheless, but it's truly only about a guy I would assume playing video games to distract himself from love. He becomes addicted to video games to not understand how to love someone, hence the dating sim scene. He becomes so consumed with video games, he can't comprehend that he has to have a relationship. I feel like Zero One (shown in the ending of Sunburn) Is an operation for all of these characters to be scripted to meet up, considering we keep seeing these characters in different songs. If this is true, this means we'll have an epic crossover song with Drunk, Love I need, and Sunburn all together. I wonder if more characters will arrive.
