    I love jewel orchids. They are one of my favorite terrestrial plant. They grow great in the ground in part sun or in a pot here in FL. They get a beautiful, long stem of little white flowers. So pretty..Enjoy them!

    What’s crazy is my Ludicia died , rotted - My Mecodes Petola is thriving! Mine is in soil too topped with bark in a terrarium , if I had to pick one to survive it would be MP tfs 👍🏼🌱

    I just found your channel - I just got my first jewel orchids yesterday! I’m in Colorado, so I am planning to keep them in a terrarium, but keep them in their own pots. Thank you for all the great info!

    Hi Danny. Years ago I came across a Ludicia in a nursery, but was probably the last in the lot and fairly mangled so refrained from trying to tackle it's issues. Haven't seen a Ludicia anywhere since and ... No regrets (?) until I see you working with yours. Yes looks much more comfortable in new setup on table.

    Hi Danny- I have 3 jewel orchids (2 macodes species (petola and sanderiana) and a unique ludisia cross with anoetochilus (red/green leaves and bright red veining - a real jewel in my opinion)) which arrived as small cuttings and have taken a couple of months to “settle in”. I use a mix of soil, perlite, charcoal and fine bark and they seem to like it. Interesting how such variations exist. Ultimately I’m hoping that all 3 will grow to “specimen” plants although it will likely take many years. I think the shimmering aspect is quite special and definitely provide a unique character to orchid growing. Thanks for showing your jewel orchids. 👍

    Beautiful leaves! I have a cross of ludisia discolor x anoectochilus roxburghii, also lovely. My dream is to collect many different types and create large dish garden for the bottom shelf in my orchid room, They are not easy to find here.

    I just took delivery of a tiny jewel orchid, it's as big as my thumb. The leaves have gorgeous gold veins. Gonna repot it using 75% soil and 25% orchid mix. Got a gomesa radicans too but can't find any info on how to care for it

    Have you ever seen a lepanthes calodytictyon for sale? I can’t find them anywhere and I’m starting to thing maybe no one actually sells them.
    Also, thank you so much for the lesson on how to cover a drainage hole.

    • @moopmeow
      @moopmeow 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      it would depend on where you live, but i have seen a couple places in the US that sell the lepanthes calodictyon. i just searched online and found it on both New World Orchids and Seattle Orchids (it looks like they're both out of stock right now but I'm sure you could ask when they'll have more). i hope you'll be able to find it in your area!

    I have root rot on my macodes petola. I want to repot it, should i remove the rot root? It doesnt have any other root :(

    • @silke_8422
      @silke_8422 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If it has root rot than you should cut the affected parts of your plants (that includes the roots) otherwise the rot won't stop. If there are no roots left than you can put your orchid in water or in sphagnum moos to let the roots grow again. It will take a time to rehab the plant but you definitely can do it :)

    We have an orchid native to my area called "Rattlesnake Plantain" (Goodyera oblongifolia) and whenever you bring up one of your beautiful jewel orchids it reminds me of it, because it has the most beautiful jeweled leaves. linnet.geog.ubc.ca/Atlas/Atlas.aspx?sciname=Goodyera%20oblongifolia I found some in the woods behind my housing complex and it felt like being in a magic fairy woods.

    • @jamtea388
      @jamtea388 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh, they are all part of the Goodyerinae subtribe, that explains it! The Ludisia also reminds me of a plant that I saw a lot as a child. It's kinda fun how favourite houseplants can be popular between continents.
