  • How to connect to an Allen Bradley Micro800, Micro810, Micro820, Micro830, Micro850, and Micro870 PLC when it has a serial port. This works with USB to serial converters and built in serial ports to connect with Rockwell Automation's Connected Components Workbench software.

    Tim - first great set of videos - a real bargain.
    My question: Most PCs now have USB connectors. Can we use an ethernet to USB adapter to connect to the micro820?
    Hate to reconfig my NIC card and then return to DHCP for surfing the web. RGI

      Yes, my PC doesn't have an Ethernet port, I use a USB to Ethernet adapter. I like this one because it gives additional USB ports.

    Do you perhaps know the pin-outs of the AB Micro810 PLC. It appears to be a 10 way 2.0mm PCB Straight Pins DIL Female Socket Header on the lower right face side of the PLC ? Just the RS232 Ground, Tx and Rx wires are probably all that is required. I have a USB to 9 pin Serial RS232 connector which works great on the PLC I tried it on so far. I also use the RS485 adapter sometimes, if necessary on some machines.

      I'm not sure. I know they make a USB adapter for it but you are likely correct that is in fact a serial connection.

      @@TimWilborne Thanks yes. Adapters are not so quick and easy to come by here so I just use the 3 pins ((Gnd, Tx and Rx) from my USB to RS232 9 pin adaptor. The thing is determining which pin is ground on the 10 pin connector is the first step and then finding the RX and TX after that. I'll have to measure the voltages. A bit of effort required by myself.. Thanks anyway,

      @@TimWilborne Might have to get a 2080 Adaptor looking at the CCW Software which looks like it loads up the driver for the adaptor or PLC. Not sure.

      I don't think it is as simple as figuring out the pinout. All the other Micro800s specifically say they have a serial port. The Micro810 says it has a USB port.

    I’ve tried to make this work on my Micro 820 with every setting I can think of. Tried switching Rx and Tx. Every time I get the message “Failed to find the baud and parity!” Do you think it is an issue with the usb cable?

    • @TimWilborne
      @TimWilborne  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It could be. Where did you get the USB to serial adapter?

      @@joshjohnson7939 Haha, most of them are compatible but sounds like you got a dud. Hopefully it didn't burn out the serial port.

    FYI Never EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER update the firmware over USB because it will turn it into a brick!!!! Trust me I and many others have made the same mistake.

    Seems simple. Seems basic
    But I have seen this issue wasted more time till this serial cord made and worked on kollmorgen servo drive
