    You can make your own date syrup. Soak dates in warm water and process in a high speed blender with water and lemon juice til it's the consistency of syrup. Then you can make it only when you need it. Much cheaper than buying it and you can use regular pitted dates instead of medjools which are more expensive.

    Thank you. I just finished mine and they were fair. I guessed 350 degrees and used agave instead of date syrup (got the message after I cooked). I hear about a decription box on videos that I watch but I can never find it. Perhaps that's because I use my phone and not a computer. I don't know. Next time I will use date syrup and add a banana or avocado for smoother texture.

    13 grams of sugar for 1 tablespoon and 64 calories for date syrup. Has anyone tried Monk fruit as a sweetener? It has zero calories and sugar it says.

    • @ChewonVegan
      @ChewonVegan  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I use Lankanto monk fruit sweetner and it is great! I use it in my coffee and in baking. Whst I like about date syrup is that it is a good source of iron, potassium and magnesium. It has more potassium ounce for ounce than a banana. The date syrup in this brownie recipe adds to the richness that I don't think would be there using monk fruit. So a little date syrup now and then is fine unless if you are diabetic.

      Dates are very versatile! You can buy some fresh organic medjool (or similar) dates online direct from the farmer such as www.7hotdates.com -- if you don't have any in your local organic grocery stores; soak them in hot water for 10 minutes prior, and blend with some water to make the "date paste" -- similar to date syrup, but I would not use molasses, unless it's just less than a tablespoon to augment the "chocolate" flavor (you can also use a tablespoons of coffee for that same effect as molasses).

    Isn't Date Syrup a form of sugar?

    • @ChewonVegan
      @ChewonVegan  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is, but it is from a whole food and is minimally processed. Date syrup has a lower glycemic index. Lesser of two evils if you will.

    • @blackfeathercrafts
      @blackfeathercrafts 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ChewonVegan not really. You are better off using the date, not the syrup. It’s still very high in carb per serving. For diabetics this is critical when they can only have 60 grams of carbs per meal.
      woodspurfarms.com/date-syrup-nutrition-facts/
      It’s still going to mess up blood sugar for a diabetic. It also will lesson how much they can actually eat in amount of food per meal.
      Lower glycemic or not, it’s still not much more than sugar when you process it down from the whole food itself.
