    🚄 INFORMATION KEY
    Train Numbers - e.g. 43032 or 800110 - These are train numbers which are specific to that train. No trains can be numbered the same. Locos are 5 digit numbers where the first two numbers are the class of train e.g. 67010 would be a class 67. Multiple Units are 6 digit numbers where the first three numbers are the class of train e.g. 390154 would be a class 390. Click Here to learn more
    ➤ en.wikipedia.o...
    Headcodes - e.g. 1F32 or 5M00 - These are used by the railway signallers to determine where trains are on the network. Every train within a region has a specific four code ID. Click Here to learn more
    ➤ en.wikipedia.o...
    Set Number - e.g. WB64 or NL04 - These are semi-permanent loco hauled coach formations which are kept together for formalities. The first two letters usually indicate the maintenance depot responsible e.g. OC is Old Oak Common, LA is Laira. The number indicates the rake number.

    Reading West railway station serves West Reading, Berkshire, about 1 mile west of the town's main retail and commercial areas. The station is served by local services operated by Great Western Railway. It is 36 miles 75 chains down the line the zero point at London Paddington.

    • @StarlifeStudios
      @StarlifeStudios  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thanks EJC. 70s are still fairly rare on freightliner workings since most of them are dumped at Leeds Road Depot awaiting parts. Although in the edit I cut it early, you could actually hear the FL 70 from a fair way off!

    • @ejc7129
      @ejc7129 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@StarlifeStudios indeed…they are lined up at Leeds Midland Road awaiting various mechanical parts from GM in the USA. Thats the trouble with a small fleet like that built uniquely overseas, it will eventually make the class 70 obsolete and they will end up getting withdrawn before their time. The old 56 Peak class 46 locomotives spring to mind - the same happened to them. They were different from the other 127 class 45 peaks in the fact they used Brush mechanical equipment and not Crompton Parkinson, so by the early 1980’s BR saw the “sub fleet” of Class 46’s as a unique liability, and with HST’s beginning to take over their favoured XC routes, withdrawals began in 1981. By November 1984, the whole class was withdrawn, some only seeing just over 20 years service 😧🇬🇧

    Bloody hell the amount of freight catches!- i always wondered if Reading west was good for freight, i mean its the way towards cornwall and devon if im correct so ofc!- Great Video as always starlife, and nice catch of the sleeper train movement!- keep up the amazing work- and congrats on hitting 9k subs!- 10k here we come

    • @StarlifeStudios
      @StarlifeStudios  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thanks for your kind comments Daniel! This is on the line towards Basingstoke and Westbury. This station is a bottleneck of the railway since everything from Southampton docks comes through here. The Sleeper movement was a lucky catch and was planned on the day to turn the sleeper set around using the Reading triangle. The channel is in high gear now and I promise I won't be stopping anytime soon - 10K here we come!!! 🙂

    Very interesting, but why do the trains to Paddington go left after the station instead of going right?

    • @LukeAlfordUKsteam
      @LukeAlfordUKsteam ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There is another junction afterwards allowing Paddington fasts to go under the flyover to platforms 10 and 11 at reading

    There’s going to be a new railway station to the south of Reading and is called Reading Green Park and will serve Green Park area and Reading FC “Madejski Stadium”.
    Except the Basingstoke-Reading Line isn’t electrified and is possible to be electrified in the future as part of the “Electric Spine”.

    How does this work? Is reading to the right or left of the video? How did so many GWR trains end up going to Paddington but turning left whilst some came from the right?

    • @StarlifeStudios
      @StarlifeStudios  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Ryan, Reading is to the right. The track here is confusing since Great Western trains going towards London use a dive under the mainline so they appear to go to the left although if you look on Google Maps, you can clearly see the route they take.
