As an intended Giallo-style film, they nailed it. Had I gone into with a straight up horror mindset like X, don’t think I would have enjoyed it as much. My issues came with the ending reveal. Would have love to see *spoiler*…….. A more unhinged Maxine. Revealed at the end to have killed those people as she saw them as competition and way for her to not escape her past, mirroring Pearl a bit more in the process. Her dad only having the suitcase with Molly’s body parts bc he was trying to protect Maxine, knowing her true nature. Maybe even a flashback to the barn scene in X, showing she killed her bf vs Pearl bc she didn’t want to be stuck in porn her whole life. Would have been a nice twist on Pearls words to Maxine when she said “I saw what you did in the barn”. Overall, I’m happy for Maxine’s happy ending, although I took the ending as her becoming famous from the incident vs her talent being an empty win for her. She famous finally. No friends or distractions holding her back (sadly). But she’s alone, just as the Director hinted she needed to be to succeed.
@@mikeyb.2203 I think that horror mindset was key, especially for Kristie and what our expectations were based on the earlier films within the trilogy. And we agree that the ending should have been handled a lot better. Thanks for sharing those thoughts! That ending would have done the movie justice compared to what we actually got.
I loved X, I liked Pearl, and I liked MaXXXine a little less. I definitely didn't feel like it was ever a mystery, there was no surprise (I feel like the movie thought there was one lol but it was pretty obvious). And I wanted more slashing.
I'm an early fan of Ti West (Innkeepers, House of the Devil, Sacrament etc) and I appreciate his talent & vision in all that he does but I'm not at all interested in anything Mia Goth does (although I do recognize her acting skills). Its just a "vibe" I get from her, it's strangely off-putting. Again, I recognize she's a good actor, she's just not for me.
I love X and Pearl but haven't seen Maxxine yet... I'm just excited to see the end of the trilogy.. I enjoyed the conflicting views you both presented. That's the great thing about horror, everyone has there own interpretation, likes and dislikes.
Maxxine is def the weakest of the Trilogy Pearl was the strongest then X. It was fine but felt more bloated then the other 2 previous films and for me it was a slower film as well. I do not think it needed to be as long as it was.

@@DPBianchi absolutely agree! And even our own views aren’t the end all be all. I enjoy watching different perspectives from the same media!
I have not seen it yet. Full disclosure, I loved the other 2. But I did not expect this to be a slasher. Pearl is not a slasher either. X is.
The horror community much like Kristie and A.J. are divided😅 I'm going to wait for this to come to streaming to form an opinion.
Not over rated 🎉

Meh i felt like X was the strongest and it was downhill from there
It’s not my favorite trilogy. Pearl was my favorite in the series
@@MIchelle4reel I definitely think Pearl is better than this one! I’m not sure what movie AJ was watching 😂
Definitely overrated, the entire trilogy.
My thoughts exactly ~Kristie
