Fun Fact: Did you notice that everytime Sweden play football against Denmark, the top on the screen it says Swe - Den making it SWEDEN and the remaining letters of the countries are Den - Mark making it DENMARK. 😁

Flags used to hang almost horizontally in the big halls in castles and palaces. That presented the cross "the right way around". Flags are lowered too when presented to a king.

I'm. Norwegian and I've learned that the red and white comes from Denmark and the blue from Sweden, because Norway was ruled /under the 'thumb'of both countries. Therefore we see ourselves like brothers.. Or king has ancestors from both counties.

Rødt, hvitt og blått - frihetens tre farger er Norges farger. Det er de samme fargene som i det i den franske Trikoloren og det amerikanske Stars and Stripes.

Yes it's like RoyRamse writes. Red-White-Blue is the colours of freedom. The Norwegian flag was designed already in 1821...

The b/w photo of a family in furs are people with inuit heritage in Greenland. The blue and yellow in Sweden originates from before Sweden became Sweden but colours were adopted to the flag.Great vid and thank you for sharing.

I knew of Kap Verde (Swedish spelling), since we learn stuff like that in School, though I didn't know where it was, thought it was further south.
But you are correct in that just because you don't know things, it doesn't make you stupid.
The Danish flag is from the 13th century and the Swedish from the 16th century, and back then it was mandatory to attend church on sundays, and there were people (priests I guess) coming visit your homes and make sure that you knew some major parts of the bible.

The upside down cross, is the cross of Saint Peter. It is only in recent times that it has been confused or used as an anti-Christian or satanic symbol. When Christianity was new in my country (Faroe Islands) and people still believed in Norse mythology, Vikings told Christians and priests that it was Peter's cross that was around the neck and not Mjolnir.
As for the design of the flag, that I have been told: The white symbolizes the purity of the land, the foam of the sea, the pure white snow and the radiant sky of the Faroe Islands. The blue and red colors represent the Faroe Islands connection with other Nordic countries.

The Norwegian flag was chosen in 1821, during Norways union with Sweden, 1814-1905 (the Swedish colours were represented in the upper left quadrant).

He missed that the two oldest flags - Denmark and Sweden - were first used during the middle ages when people went on crusades, wearing crosses. Symbolizing that they were fighting for cristianity (sometimes doing terrible things).

The shift to the lighter blue happened in 1906.

the history of nordic languages is also super interesting! Also I noticed the Delaware flag looks inspired by the Swedish and turns out that that is one of the places that swedes immigrated to so probably influenced the flag!

Norway added the blue cross because Red, White and Blue were the colours of freedom as found in the US, UK and Netherlands. After the fact they pretended that it was an homage to sweden.
Basically is Denmarks flag with more freedom.

Scandinavia includes Iceland, Norway, Sweden and Denmark, where the languages belong to the Indo-European language. Finland does not belong to Scandinavia, it belongs to the Nordic countries. Finnish and Sámi languages belong to the rare Finno-Ugric language group, which includes: Ersä, Hanti, Ingeroinen, Karelian, Komi, Liivi, Livvi, Lyydi, Mansi, Mari, Mokša, Sámi, Finnish, Udmurt, Hungarian, Vatja, Vepsä and Estonian.

You're describing the Scandinavian peninsula, which is a clearly defined geographical term. The term Scandinavian countries is wider and less clearly defined, and has a lot to do with language and culture, and often includes Iceland, and sometimes even Finland as well, though usually when Finland is included, Nordic countries would be the more precise term.
