I find it interesting that some parts of this theme sound so triumphant. Because it seems to me that the main emotion associated with it is dread. It never plays after a victory; only before a defeat.
Whether that's Dave about to confront his bro (and lose), or Terezi about to confront Vriska (and be forced to kill her -- an emotional defeat, one might say.)
Wil Seibel I think it may be sort of like anticipation and the adrenaline before events like those. It’s more like determination for me but that’s just my point of view
And Descend, wherein Dave has to be bailed out by his bro, where all the carapacians on the battlefield are killed, where the end of the world begins, Rose takes her first step into grimdark by rejecting the game, and Jade dies. A series of defeats.
i mean, terezi killing vriska was a defeat in more ways than one considering [S] GAME OVER and everything that follows.
I think it's triumphant because it's these character resolving to face their problems and fears head on regardless of victory or defeat for their loved ones. and one could say, just making that choice, hard as it is, is a victory no matter the outcome.
To me, what you see as "triumph" sounds more like resolve. They know they're about to enter a fight they probably won't win. But they refuse to back down. They MUST do this. This song isn't a triumphant one, it's a song of determination, a resolution to fight to the bitter end even as the odds stack against them.
You know how elevators have their own music? Well, this one's for stairs.

I was reading Homestuck for the first time last year. I was like "Hehe, I want to do something cringe." and I was very surprised when it turned out be actually good... but the moment when my opinion of "confused" to "really invested" shifted...
It was this moment. This animation, this song playing. Just seeing Dave walking up the stairs and then the moment where he arrives on the roof and we see the meteors falling down behind him. It was just such a "woah" moment. In this moment I thought "This is more than just simple shenanigans." and I was right. It turned into so much more.
Would I say it is the perfect story? Hell no, it had too much problems, but it was a damn enjoyable one and I come back to listen to the music again and again.
God i can relate so badly, i still think homestuck act 1 to 4 is a masterpiece with smaw flaws, when it gets to act 5...its too much characters...too much things...i will never blame Hussie....i would say Homestuck just got so big for him that he tried his best to handle it

The cast was too big and it was clear the author struggled with it, so he started to kill off people left and right, so that some of them couldn't even shine (Feferi...)
The first intermission. It is great on re-reads, but for first time readers it really makes them feel as if they are in a different comic. It should have been on a different part when we got more used to seeing Jack.
As much as I like Caliborn as a villain, it just makes me sad that Jack gets completely sidelined in act 6 and only returns to battle in Collide (in three different versions nonetheless).
The Vriska redemption was bullshit and being pulled out Hussie's ass! Her arc was so satisfying and ended with her death, so why is making it so she never died suddenly a good thing?! Especially because she is still a toxic mess and suddenly everyone is okay with that? I love Vriska actually, but that made me go like "Uuuuuh".
At the beggining im always like: "DAMMIT DESCEND PLAY ALLREADY"

BIG THING about this whole strife thing with the family member. People (including me) assume its the type of thing in which violence isn't really a big thing (like in anime when someone falls like 50 feet and they don't get that hurt). Even _Dave_ points out that he didn't think too much of it at first cause he just thought it was some cool action thing in his life, but it's actually real that Bro was abusive to him when you _really_ think about it. Even Hussie says so. Just when you think this is some goofy random setting, it shifts right to being serious. I just can't shake the feeling that the puppet (for anyone that knows what I mean) had to do with it. I just refuse to believe Dirk in anyway would end up like that in any universe.

Ahmed Atef Lil Cal. Remember during Homo Suck when it showed how Caliborn, half of Gamzee, and ARquius got sucked into Lil Cal? It explains why around when Bro was first introduced, there was all this unnecessary Saw stuff around. like the Camera doll, the Muppet Babies comic, the puzzle piece in ketchup on the trap door. Caliborn is all about that, "Let's play a game" stuff, so yeah.

I think the title and themes of this song reveal a lot about Dave's character, always trying to prove himself and stand out of someone else's shadow. He's suave as all hell but a lot of it is him trying to convince himself he's as great as everyone thinks he is.
