    James, that was the most methodical, well explained, and itemized inspection and cleaning of an oil burner I've seen on You Tube yet! Cleanup and detail was amazing. I never knew anything about oil burning boilers until I bought this old house 20 yrs back, and had to learn how to service everything myself. Never really wanted to to the job myself. However, the local service people around here would do only the minimum, and know you would have to callback for follow-ups when the system shut down 3 months later, with $150 to $225 repair bills for their poor initial service! You're the best, and could be a millionaire just by doing straightforward and honest work!

      He never removed the top canopy to brush the boiler vertically. Stack temp. is to high, and he never check the draft at the breech or over fire.

    We replaced the electrodes every time. It’s just not worth having a delayed ignition due to questionable electrodes. It’s just like spark plugs in a car. Electrodes are cheap, and they come in a tune up kit, along with the nozzle line, buss bars, fuel pump coupler, etc. You cannot she pinholes in the porcelains. Most techs over,ok this, and run electrodes that are spent. I’ve had my share of puffbacks, and once had a draft diverter blow thru a sheet rock wall, due to delayed ignition from defective electrodes. Good job. Did you check the pump cut off pressure, or was there a solenoid on the pump? Good job, explaining the aspects that should be addressed in an annual oil service.

    Do oil hot water boilers have air filters

    Good video! You probably get asked this a lot but, what brand/ model of residential hot water boiler is the easiest to service and long lasting? Buderus, Weil Mclain, ect?

    • @gidzey4783
      @gidzey4783 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      j jones Buderus is top notch but most expensive. I like Weil McLain Gold series as far as cost and dependability

    As a fellow oil-burner tech, very well described plus I'm glad you said "Flue Pipe" and not "Smoke Pipe" at first but then you called it smoke-pipe later. Remember...a properly tuned oil-burner has Zero smoke

    You never turned the service switch off and you can't tell if the heat exchanger is cracked from the sight door.

    When testing the pump pressure why NOT run the burner until it locks out on SAFETY? Certainly would be worth the typical 15-45 seconds a card cell relay takes. This STEP could save a CATASTROPHIC EXPLOSION 💥💥💥!

    30 seconds in and I’m quitting. I didn’t see how are you turn the power off and I didn’t see how you remove the filter. Not really helping me.

      Do you think it was worth it? Do you still call them out every year or just do it yourself now? I just bought oil so I'm not really looking to spend another $100 for heat in the last month of winter so I'm wrestling with the idea of paying someone or just doing it myself.

    Yeah no brushing the fan on the burner motor, didn't check cad cell ohms, didn't check the relief valve which is a safety, didn't check the expansion tank, didn't do a water test for acidity, didn't check your water feeder, didn't change that pos primary control 😆. Yeah there's a lot this guy didn't do. Didn't do an oil tank inspection. I know we ain't perfect but that's some poor company standards. U making ur guys do 10 tune ups a day? Tune up should be at least 2 hours on a boiler and 1.5 hrs on a furnace if it's properly maintained.
