Rhydon absolutely dominated Competitive Pokemon Singles in Gen 1. It's stats were excellent for its time, as was its typing. Rhydon could ward off threats like Zapdos and Tauros while outputting serious damage with its High attack Earthquakes.
Rhydon was no slouch in Gen 2 OU either, remaining a Top Tier Bulky Ground type.
From Gen 3 Onwards Rhydon started to fall off and be replaced, but Rhydon was very much the original blueprint for the "Bulky Ground Type", a staple of every competitive Format moving forward.
Let's explore this concept, perhaps.

for those who haven't seen the fakes vs mako game yet, yes the rhydon coming in out of nowhere, clicking megahorn and ohkoing celebi was unbelievably hype

Another thing worth noting is that Rhydon in gen 3 OU has a strong matchup against Yanma. Even Signal Beam won't do much against that defense stat, and it becomes free to substitute on if you've already absorbed the sleep.
i love rhydon's stat distribution, one that's seen in a few pokemon[HP, AtK and Defense really high, others quite low]

Back in the RBY days, Rhydon made me fall in love with the offensive capability and reliability of the ground type. Since then it has always been my fav type. I even use mono-ground teams in OU sometimes. Respect to the OG.
Speaking scientifically, horses are actually not that far from rhinos on the evolutionary tree, only splitting off from each other ~40 million years ago. Evolutionarily, rhydon’s campaign for the horse council actually holds some water
I can say expertly claim that Rhydon is more of a horse than that ruffian Horsea. Horses are rideable while Horsea cannot be rid on. What a fraud that Horsea is.

If you take a look at all the pokemon that can learn high horsepower, you quickly realize that there are a lot of non horses that can use the move. The horse council needs to set up an organization of pokemon that have received their blessings, recognizing that there’s a difference between being favored by horses and being a horse.
Of course Rhydon has no interest in the Horse Council. You see the horn? He is clearly a Unicorn
Ah another hit yet again Mr. Cool. On behalf of the F.E.A I appreciate you giving some much needed history on one of our members Rhydon and Rhyperior. This is truly a win for the forgotten evolutions and their previous forms. We will continue to support your excellent work but, please help our leader Raichu. I can only hope Rhydon is using his strategic position to help the other forgotten evolutions.

a while ago, i ran an experiment called new kanto with only kanto mons and their alternate forms, and rhydon was actually pretty good there. the tools that he's amassed over the generations combined with eviolite and a lack of another bulky ground type combined to make him a very prevalent force. it also helps that mega beedrill and arcanine hisui were two of the most popular physical threats, and rhydon handled them wonderfully.
That set was cool! The Megahorn Moment definitely was a highlight!!

Rhydon is a creature of honor, and would have no ulterior motive behind joining the Horse Council. Not only as a bulky ground, none of whom being duplicitous in any way, but also as a rhinoceros (which as we all know is the Horse of the African Continent), Rhydon would be a powerful and important ally for the Horse Council to consider.
Using a Rhydon on my Blue single-player team AND on my multiplayer team in that gen, it has done so much good and has become my new favorite Gen 1 Pokémon.

There's a reason the statues at Indigo Plateau were Rhydon.
Rhydon's stats were designed with old game mechanics and the newer games shows. Even Rhyperior cant maintain its dominance (In SIngles anyway). When it comes to Doubles and the rise of VGC, Rhydon and Rhyperior has their moment in the spotlight. Lightningrod and Solid Rock are great abilties in Doubles, Trick Room is so much easier to take advantage. Hence why Rhyperior shined in particular in most of Gen 8.

I remember when I played gen 1 ou a lot I used rhydon on pretty much every team. I don't think I ever used zapdos but man just being able to destroy zapdos was amazing. and one time I predicted a switch and got a rock slide off on articuno I didn't even know was in the opponents team it was amazing
It has recently come to the council's attention that a number of other mons also get "high horsepower" despite their non-titles as horses. Such mons include: Melmetal, Rillaboom, Buzzwole, Chesnaught, Cetitan, Golurk, Guzzlord, Orthworm, Torterra and Wishcash among their pre-evolutions. Should these mons too be allowed access to the council?

magcargo can only learn it by evolving from slugma, and slugma can only learn it by TM
Who is the original horse? Ponyta, the gen 1 horse. Arceus, the first horse by lore. Mew, the ancestor to all horses?
