Comment jokes aside, Soldier Boy saying that "they're the real heroes" really shows just how much Homelander looked up to him to the point of using his phrases.
It’s pretty cliche
Makes sense he would take a few cues since it was probably all he had to watch as a kid and could relate.
He was probably fed that line by some pencil pusher helping him work on his hero persona, when we see Homelander watching these old Soldier Boy videos it was like he never seen them before
or not. Most of his speeches (at least throughout seasons 1 and 2) are written by Vought's PR department.

I am from Pakistan and my grandfather never left subcontinent but even he knew about bravery of soldierboy. Used to pray for him everyday, he made soldierboy a role model to which all my uncles and my father grew up looking up to.

My grandpa used to tell stories about how Brazilians were training like crazy to have a shot at serving alongside the troops and Soldier Boy. They trained day and night, but only a handful were sent, best of the best. Tough times for the world, but thank God and Homelander that Soldier Boy took part in this journey!

Growing up, I loved hearing my grandfather's stories about World War II, especially the ones about Soldier Boy. Grandpa always said Soldier Boy was a true hero, leading the charge with a smile and lifting everyone's spirits with his jokes and charm. He talked about how Soldier Boy was always so confident and fearless, never hesitating to get into the thick of the fight. Grandpa admired how Soldier Boy treated everyone with respect and fairness, always stood up for the little guy, and kept everyone in line with his 'tough love.' He’d laugh about how Soldier Boy never had a vice-no racism, no mistreatment of women, and certainly no shady dealings or violent outbursts. It's amazing to think about the bond they must have shared and the respect Grandpa had for him. Those stories made me so proud of my grandpa and his time with such a legendary figure. Little did Grandpa know, Soldier Boy's 'virtues' were a bit more... ironic than he realized!
